    QX9300 processor
    8GB RAM
    Upgraded the display
    500GB SSD (2 x 256)
    280m SLI
    TV Tuner

    :D

I was going to get my own RAM & CPU...but it would save me only about $600. Might as well get it fully spec'd out by alienware as long as the price is that high. Not to mention, we don't really know how easy it is to mod, or even if my clumsiness could handle replacing a processor

Yes, you can use EPP for this. And no, you CAN NOT use an Alienware Titanium account to order this laptop. It's being phased out.

I'm in the same boat, too. I was going to use my EPP to buy the laptop, but... I can't. :|

OK, looks like they went with a dual-CCFL backlight screen, which is listed as daylight-viewable on their Precision models that offer it (but that's without the mirrored glass in front). The extra brightness should help some with the glare off the edge-to-edge display.

    That's incorrect!

If you are a member of the U.S. military, you have access to the AAFES (military exchange) site.

I just went there to compare prices and this is what I found:

Base config for M17X is $1763=$35 less
    M17X w/QX9300 and dual 280's=$66 less

And as always when purchasing through AAFES, there are no tax or shipping fees.

So there are indeed military discounts. :D

About to order this spec, just looking for my dell discount code :D!

SYSTEM COLOR Space Black – Anodized Aluminum
    PROCESSOR Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
OPERATING SYSTEM Windows Vista® Ultimate (64-bit Edition) with Service Pack 1
    VIDEO CARD Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M, 2GB – SLI® Enabled
    LCD PANEL 17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
    MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
HARD DRIVE 250GB 7,200RPM w/ Free Fall Protection
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

I really dont think you need more than 4 gigs of ram, and if I ever needed more I could just buy it off newegg :D!

Since there is no x9100 cpu, might as well buy the qx9300, because you can overclock it to 3.0 ghz and up, and you wont get that kind of speed with any of the other options, even the dual cores.

That's a very nice setup congrats and now "only" the horrid waiting game begins...
Be glad you're not living in Sweden as that exact setup would've cost: $6668,89 also you would've gotten the QWERTZ keyboard layout.

I don't understand why Alienware have chosen to use analogue audio outputs instead of one simple SPDIF or Optical digital audio ouput for surround sound. That has put me off buying this laptop. Why have Alienware taken a step backwards and used older audio technology. I thought this was ment to be their latest and greatest laptop.

    Hmm, good question.

I was hoping they would ditch the digital volume control for an analogue control.

The analogue volume control has a much finer adjustment.

The only downside with EPP is it won't let you split the cost between a DPA and a credit card. You have the choice of "DPA" or "Two Credit Cards" and not a mix of both unlike buying via the normal site.

I was hoping for an SPDIF shared with the headphones...even my ancient m3200 has that. I guess they assume most people who want digital sound will be using the HDMI connection.

For more info on this beast see this page for manuals.
