Stick with the T9600 guys, seriously.
-
7%. But because it is now through Dell, it can be combined with other offers.
-
heck im gonna stick with the base chip. use my qx9300 i have here and stick the 8600 in a draw in case i ever need it for warranty purposes
-
Do you see the nameplate option or complete care option through EPP yet? I'm still waiting on Dell to call me back regarding this.
-
Not up yet Mandrake. Just went through it a second ago.
-
Overclocking on the qx9300 allows it to reach 3.0 ghz or over, no other chip available on the m17x currently allows that, so therefore you will get the most performance from the qx9300.
-
DPA is a horribly crappy credit line to use, but... it works. DPA's interest rates state from the day you order your laptop, not from the day it ships. When I got my M9750, it didn't ship for a month, but I already had finance charges for it before it ever even shipped out. It's !@#$.
You only get the 12 months no charges if you qualify (read: very, VERY good credit). The second you place the order is the second the clock on the charges starts. -
He means the guys buying the T9800. Ive been saying the same as Kevin but only a couple of people have listened.
-
Well, the UK website lists both as being the same price. Also, price wasn't an issue for me. This is a graduation gift + 21st birthday present + new computer, so.
But thanks for the advice. =)
-
Oh lol, yeah I agree, if you are getting the dual core, get the T9600 not the T9800, that extra .13 ghz wont really matter, unless money is of no concern to you.
-
How much are the two CPUs on the UK site? I wanna know which of us is getting ripped off.
-
Yes, I was referring to the choice between the T9600/T9800. It's a huge waste of money to choose the T9800.
-
I'm pretty sure they don't charge you until it ships. When I ordered a M1730 last month I didn't get charged for it until the day before I got it.
-
im wondering when they start the 12months.. i assume its when the card gets charged. i just reopend my dpa card just in case i decide to pull the trigger..
-
It's an easy choice for you because you already have one. I'm still thinking if it's not a bad idea to buy right from AW and have the QX9300 covered under warranty.
When AW was charging $1200+ you could buy 3 QS off ebay for the same price. So even if by whatever chance the first CPU goes I could still buy a second and be saving $400+.
At $900 if the first CPU goes and I have to buy a replacement I'm not saving much more than $100.
Plus now that the machine is covered under Dell warranties they can be transferred to new owners increasing resale. -
just a thought .. since the m17x is appearing under dell .. does that mean we might see this unit pop up as refurbisheds in dell's outlet?
-
If it's looking like mxm 3.0's I'm gonna wait until there is official release of 4870 DDR5 then...Everythings looking right on this sucker so far. Eagerly awaiting pics and absolute confirmation of 3.0 MXM from Chaz.
-
Oh and for the people looking for confirmation that the MXM slots are 3.0b, the spec sheet linked earlier confirms this.
-
I am going to stick with the 280m GTX's in SLI
!
-
Wow nice...in that case I'm just waiting for some nice pics to hold me off for now then
-
True, but wasn't there a situation where Alienware was declining Titanium applicants because they had too good of a credit score, since they knew that they only make money off their credit if people pay late etc.
I hope the DPA won't be the same, but then again, if you want discounts, wait for coupon codes etc... -
Not sure if this is posted already, but here is a review of the new M17x by Driverheaven.net with Far Cry 2 benchmarks and Crysis Warhead benches as well. It also has a picture of the BIOS screen and it offers a lot of multiplier stages to OC the QX9300, which is a very good sign that Alienware got the message.

Great find ichime! Thanks for the link.
I love how small the AC adapter is! -
Much more portable than I had hoped for. -
Now, the overclocking in the bios for the qx9300, I can safely overclock it to 3.0 ghz right? I was just wondering because I noticed theres a lot of options in regards to overclocking in it, and it is confirmed in the manuals linked earlier that the overclocking seen in the review will be available with the final machines we see today.
-
Yeah ComA~TosE linked that this morning but it's been buried for no one to find.
Unfortunately that looks like it's only for the pre-production and just two of those multipliers are available on the production M17x.

I can imagine that'd happen, yeah, but I don't think Alienware was declining them. Titanium Accounts are all handled/issued by Dell Financial Services, so Dell would have been the ultimate decider.
That's why I'm angry at Dell right now. I /want/ to order a new laptop, but I can't use my Titanium Account. It's a Dell account, issued by Dell, financed by Dell, but it's only coded to work with Alienware's site... but the new Alienware laptop isn't sold by Alienware.
I am seriously miffed over this. -
wow the m17x actually uses the 1333mhz ram speed?
-
Yeah, I am ordering it with the 1333mhz ram
! I cant wait to get it, its going to be awesome
!
-
I was hoping for the new m17x with a WLED or RGBLED screen since its now with dell. But no
.
-
2 ccfl isn't bad at all. RGB would be nice, but it isn't that much better than my old M1730's WUXGA.
-
Yeah, it's not cool that the titanium accounts weren't transferred, but maybe they'll offer a way. Also, there's a silver lining, we can now deal with Dell CS, not Alienware, despite Alienware being owned by Dell before, I'm assuming our support will go to a different, better, CS.
-
Is there a big enough difference between the two to warrant and upgrade? Whats kinds of applications would the extra mhz be needed?
-
I called DFS earlier to ask if I could merge the account over from a Titanium to a DPA, and they said nope, it's not possible. I also asked if I closed my Titanium Account if they'd raise the limit on my DPA, and they said... nope! But I saw that answer coming a mile away. =P
Just annoys me that I could order this laptop /right now/ if I could use the Titanium Account. It's almost taunting me. -
The increase is not very noticeable, if anything, more points in benchmarks to boost overall scores, but for the average gamer, the difference is negligible.
-
Overclocked qx9300 still beats both
!
-
double post for some reason...
-
Actually, without either the qx9300 is useless...you need memory!
-
Too many pages... what's the post #
-
Oops, i thought you meant the T9600 or the T9800 processors for some reason rofl.
-
looks like the slim 3p adapter for the M6400
-
the M17x is shaping up to be a pretty impressive system - i can't think of anything Dellienware has done wrong so far (except the airways, if that information is indeed true).
-
Only one more thing. The bloatware.
-
AW usually doesn't include any bloatware in their systems. plus, you can uncheck the Norton trial i believe.
-
#1246...can we get the link to the manuals added to the first post?
-
Bloatware is the reason many laptops are cheaper than others, look at the Asus gaming laptops. Yes, they have bloatware on them, but they're cheap and well built.
If it saves me money, I can spend the hour it takes to remove it all... -
will do. {10char}
-
It's shaping up to be a super rig.
Small AC adapter, integrated graphics for extended battery life, Overclocking via the bios, and lets not forget a pretty decent base price.
Yeah, I guess I'll take the bloatware if it lowers the price. -
Where does it say the airways are messed up? I read in the driver heaven review that the opposite is true.
-
right, just read it. seems notebookcheck.de messed up. germans, can't trust them one iota.
also, updated first post with the coupon code for free shipping. is it correct?
also, me and Moo got the GPU/CPU layout right
