also, if anyone could sum up the various program discounts Dell offers (EPP, XYZ, idontknowbutivebeentold, AW university, etc) so i can add them to the first post, i'd be very much obliged.

EPP and Student is 7% off.
Dell DPA (which is Dell credit you need to be approved for) is an additional 4% off.
Alienware U is 5% but doesn't count since this is being done through Dell's website.
Rob can tell you the military discount.

One other thing about the DPA discount. It only counts if you purchase the whole laptop with it and not break into into different accounts. (ie half credit card half DPA)

Looking at the design link, looks like it took design cues from the Precision M6400 and the desktop XPS 730

Yeah they're charging you blokes more. In the U.S. T9600 is +$175 , Q9000 is +$200 and the T9800 is +450 over the base P8600.

    £180 is about $299.

Sorry, I had to break out the calc, go to the AAFES website and look at the numbers.

The military discount is 2%, plus free shipping, and zero tax.

Currently the M17x isn't on AAFES website. It may take AW a while to make the change. I believe if you contact AW directly you still can get a discount with them.

Yes it is on the AAFES website.

You have to go to the Dell store instead of the Alienware store. ;)

GSFREESHIP but it's an AW site code and may note work with dell.com.

Though Dell is giving free shipping without a code.

Edit: You beat me to it!

That was an AW code. I don't think it works on Dell's site. Regardless it's currently showing free shipping without any code.

One other thing you might want to add regarding DPA is that it's 12 months free financing.

Hmm, I don't know if I like that. They probably won't do it with the M17x being so new. But I found on mulitple occasions where Dell limited what you could upgrade on a M1730 via their own page.

For example, you could get 9800GTX on the normal page but not on the AAFES page. Also, sometimes the computer would be cheaper if you get straight from them instead of going through AAFES.

Never found this problem with the old M17x, M17 and M15x on the AW website.

Still not updated on the site.

They've got a Preliminary Ship Date listing now as you customize your options. For the general customers the ship date is 6/30 for EPP customers it's 7/2.

Well, called AW about returning my M17 yesterday, should get my RMA either today or tomorrow. Here's to hoping it has a quick, problem-free trip back! I'm so anxious, the next 2 weeks or so are going to suck!

Now if only it didn't take AW 5 days to refund paypal payments... anybody know why that is?
