The Swiss Gear bags look real nice and are made of a very durable material.

quick question about sound..
I havent had an alienware laptop previously so I wouldnt know, but these units wouldnt be noisy would they? fans, gpus, etc.. -

As someone else said, I hope the gray option is more gray than the picture. It doesn't look too different from the black to me.
Anyway, I will not be getting rid of my M17. I still need to max it out. Still need to add duo extreme, and (hopefully) 4870's. However, since I don't have a desktop I am hoping this new AW will be it. for $2,500 according to this thread (awesome by the way) I could get something comparable to my M17, but a tad stronger and with Nvidia.
Now, I will definitely be waiting for the first wave of people to get it and see reactions, reviews, issues, etc. before pulling the trigger. AW usually adds options a couple of months down the road too. But no way I am diving into this without some sort of community support. You guys can take mine in the mean timeI am a patient man.
In any case, good looking machine. Good thing it is Ripley, as I would not want too of the same design.
Here is to gray option being grayer! -

Hey WaR,
I also use that dancing alien "you know where". How did you get it to work here? -
What exactly are you gonna do with 3 computers? Host your own lan party and invite yourself and your other self to an all-night self-destructive pwn fest?

here it is http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/802/aliendance.gif -
there such a thing as a noise dampening mod for notebooks?
I used to do it with desktops...new to notebooks though so I have no idea xD -
-
You probably haven't seen all my posts but to make a long story short I demand my computer to do a lot. AutoCAD, Mathematica 7, steel and concrete stress tests, etc, etc. Why do I need another one? I don't. But it would be pretty awesome not to carry this one all the time, leave it in one place, and take the other one home. The only reason I have an Eee PC is to remotely control the M17. Obviously it is not the same thing.
Anyway, last post for tonight. The downtimes in this forum are more annoying than the quad shutters. -
I mean regarding the sounds of the CPU/GPU/etc.. so that when I'm browsing the internet I wouldn't think someone rigged my notebook with a v12 engine. -
option for dual 280m's...Someone owes an apology

That will help out a lot when web surfing and doing other moderate tasks. -
just spoke with my dell source and he said as far as he is being told its a black unit. he said they (again as far as he is being told) have no plans for the silver, he said it will end up 99% the same matte rubber coating as the m17 is. he said the piece at the rear of the lid is not leather it has a pattern on it almost like a fake carbon fiber and its for show not meant to be used as a grip or anything like that. he is trying to see what other info he can get. if the pre lim pricing he emailed me is correct this thing will get pricey fast with any kind of options. he asked me not to post that at this time but some of the options are def more $$ than whizzo has posted from what he said...
he asked about the overclocking and was told (again please do not hold this as bible) it will once again NOT be a option in the bios, but since dell stepped in that may change right before the final release since at the meeting he went to dell wanted it and alienware did not but it looks like dell will have the final say in a lot of things now from the way the meeting went that he attended -
okay what is going on with posts now..

First...I hate 404 error messages, what did i do to deserve them. Just read the 12 pages. Beyond excited...I'm going to get higher resolution, 320gig hard drive, backlit keyboard, single 280GTX (to double up is WAY too expensive for my budget) and the T9550. That will probably fit my budget, cheap(by alienware means) and still a powerful machine. Any advice on that combo?
-
I have to agree with you on the points you raised zfactor. whizzo has lowballed those upgrade prices (especially on the VCs side).
As for the internal power struggles, anything that makes these people sit down together and talk is good. Too many times in Alienware did I hear, it's this way and there's nothing you can do about it to change that.
Dell = real change you can believe in? I think I've heard that somewhere else before...
Also "404 Not Found" can eat my nuts. NBR will be going downhill fast if they don't cancel this forum version rollout. -
If the prices for the upgrades are worse than posted everyone will end up upgrading third party.
-
i pulled all upgrade prices from the M17 configuration pages, and the video cards from eurocom's upgrade list (plus some markup, we're still talking about AW). however, i am now inclined to think the GPUs will be a bit pricier, so i'll adjust them a bit.
in related news, &/§%# "404 Not Found" . NBR, please upgrade your servers, you cheapskates -
Agreed. My goal is to get a good system for...2500ish. Plausible, I hope. Would it be easier to go cheapest processor for this then put in a nicer one, granted i have never put in a processor. RAM is my only venture.
-
-
-
definitely. especially the SSDs so you can make sure you get the right brand. CPU, RAM, and HDD/SSD can easily be bought aftermarket. heck, you could even do the ODD as well.
-
There may be bezel issue with the ODD.
-
Was already planning on buying the SSD aftermarket. 1xSSD for apps 1xHDD for file storage.
I'm not going to bother with a Bluray and if 4Gb of RAM is part of the starting config there's no reason to get more.
I would prefer to have the CPU covered under the AW warranty but you can almost ebay 3 QX9300s QS replacements for what they're charging for a single OEM. -
Plus making multiple purchases across different accounts will hide the true price of this from the spouse
OK I'm evil.

Ive been researching the W90 Asus...and at $2,100, for the performance its giving(Quad/4890 crossfire/etc..and the design is nice)..it seems very reasonable.
I still want this alienware, but for some reason I'm hesitating because of the w90 -
Does AW have back-to-school sales/specials?
-
If you're a student, like I am, you can get a 7% discount (or was it 10...)
the program is called Alienware University
linky:
https://www.alienware.com/programs/alienware-university/alienware-university.aspx -
Alienware university is 5% and Dell Epp is 7%
Going back to school sales are always around but who knows what AW will do -
Cool...thanks a lot Scytus!
-
Hmm i just registered with Alienware University, they said they sent me an email. But its not there...damn alienware and their slow messages. On another note. Would it save me money to get the cheapest CPU then install a T9550, I have found some for 300+. But alienware upgrades of that exact processor are below. So if I wanted that processor...Cheaper to go alienware?
-
We don't have the official upgrade prices yet.
-
Ya...its only 5% which kinda sucks. I only save 150 if I purchase a 3000 dollar laptop? Better then nothing I guess
-
It won't even pay for tax, at least not where I live.
-
Yeah...5% is not that much, but it almost cancels out tax for me...Also do we know if it has alienFX lighting? Or lame three color lighting like the m17? I just love the alienfx ability to customize
-
Clauss
I got an email instantly...It is sent to your university email -
As far as I know, they offer both duo & quad, models unknown -
I live in canada so 150 will pay for half the shipping...if that lol
-
Yeah i just got it, took a few mins. Might have been my computer, who knows.
-
If AW charged even a little more than $300 for the upgrade to a T9550 (say like $350-375) I'd buy it direct from AW to have it under the warranty.
-
-
Yeah, for the new m17x, I will most likely go with a cheaper processor. Hopefully a combo of 1920 reso/ one 280 GTX/keyboard/320 gig/Medium processor. Can be 2500ish, that would be my goal.
