I wanted the 280M GTX SLI and the X9100 but if that shoots the price to $3500 then I'll probably get the lowest option on the proc. I really want to see these prices now.

it's been confirmed that there will be AlienFX lighting, yes. probably for the front speaker grilles, the touchpad, the keyboard, the alienhead(s), and the instant access buttons.

nope. the stuff in my first post is what i presume to be the eventual range of options. some stuff is logical (GPUs), some probable (HDDs), some reasonable (CPUs, RAM).

Always helpful whizzo, thank you for your insight and help...no more questions left...just anticipation
Scytus, if your referring to the processor(t9550) of top of the line, it is not "top" it is solid, not an amazing bench marker like the extremes. But IMHO it will perform satisfactorily.

Top of the line for mobile would be the QX9300.

I was offering Clauss my opinion on his CPU dilemma. If the CPU you want only costs a little more from AW then I think it's a better idea to get it through AW for the warranty coverage.

...okay this is probably going to make some of you laugh, some of you cry because of the stupidity...

but I went all over newegg and I couldn't find 1 laptop DVD/CD drive. only desktop internals and externals....what are the laptop ones called? hot swappable or something?

for some reason AW's bluray burners do not support lightscribe

EDIT: I keep searching and cant find one anywhere...I found a few desktop bluray/lightscribe...no notebook though

Top of the line for mobile is also X9100. Some people are avoiding the problems that sometimes arise with the quads.

X9100=3.06 stock to 3.6 with zero stuttering and less money. :D

T9900 will likely produce the same overclocks with SetFSB use 9w less power and costs about $300 less than the X9100. (retail. not ebay prices)

Hmm, "likely" sounds kind of uncertain.

It takes power to overclock and like you said, the X9100 has 9w more than the T9900.

If I were choosing between the two, I'd want to see some actual data to base my decision on.

My X9100 for instance clocks to 3.57 without a single problem and has no overheating.

I haven't seen any examples of the T9900 being able to do that.

The new rig looks better every time I see it.

Check out how open the base is. That's gonna flow a lot more air.

thank you, and thanks for the +rep, hard to come by these days it seems... must be the economy :D

i wonder how the air will flow. are all the bottom air vents intakes? and the slits on the sides (and the whole back) outlets? also, i think the m17x also sucked air in "around" the keyboard... i wonder if the M17x will use that principle as well. the m1730 didn't, to my knowledge.

Looks like the whole middle section of the bottom plate is raised up and doesn't rest flat on the table. Allows for a lot of fresh air to get underneath that notebook.

(And tell me about it with the rep...I've only need 3 more for a new bar for a few days now and can't get none.)

The primary cooling for the CPU, GPU's, and NB will still be done with the fans and heatsinks, but the extra vents should lower ambient temps within the case at least.

JerryJ has also confirmed the OC feature Moo has talked about. Two extra clock settings on Extreme CPUs.

Looks like I will ebay a QX9300. If the AW OC kicks it up to 3.03Ghz I wonder if a little SetFSB will take it the rest of the way.

Yeah, I read that post. That's pretty good news. Now when people compare performance with other laptops, they'll have to include the OC as stock from A.W. because it will be a designed in feature. :D

but yea I'm actually getting pretty excited (again) for this laptop...

Wow the new systems look very similar to the M1730 (which i have) especially from the front. The Dell XPS 1730 had awesome cooling and was overclockable, so hopefully this great cooling and OCing ability carries on to this new m17x model. I was originally waiting for the monster 18.4" Clevo, but I rather have a 17" notebook, so now I have to decide which system runs better once members egt their hands on them and tested them.

Oh btw one question, does alienware customer service go through dell now? Or does it still go through alienware? I read a few weeks ago that AW is going through Dell customer service. So even though you buy an AW, you still getting Dell customer service.

This would be a big factor for me purchasing from AW as I had very bad experiecnes with AW CSR's even with the rowswell group. Back when the M15x was new and it was overheating and downclocking, I loss faith as it seems that every AW csr were ignorant with about the issues and didn't know anything about the system really but rather just wanted to sell it (CSR NOT sales reps either). Two years back I was very active in the AW section forums in NBR but loss faith as it seemed AW customer service were horrible. Now I had an awesome experience with dell, CSR's are informative, tech service are computer literate, and they send a technican to fix any problems instead of shipping your laptop back. So I just wanted to know if dell would be taking over customer service.

Nice to be back here on the AW forums.

Btw anyone know if the OEM is Anima? Or is it someone else?

Does the alienhead still glow? It doesnt look like its glowing in the picture, but it may just be because of the lighting and camera angle.

but but...facial recognition isn't as...accurate nor as awesome :D (my opinion)

your face may change (by not shaving for a few days, for example) but your thumbprint lasts you forever. I doubt, but still hope there will be a scanner option when building the laptop.

But I appreciate the closure, I feel pitied upon xD

    I'm sure the alienhead illuminates.

It could be off, could be the camera angle, or it could be what jerry mentioned, and I quote "The AlienFX lights in the pre-production M17x that we spent time with had incomplete lighting features" ;)

I noticed in all of the new pictures that it has a lot more vents and cooling, which is nice for a laptop like this, and with my Zalman NC2000 cooler, it should stay nice and cool :D! I plan on maxing out the gpu, getting the best dual core cpu, 4 gigs of ram, and the 1900x1200 screen :D!

I'll prolly go for the getting the best quad core (seeing as how I havent had any bad m17 experiences to give me post traumatic stress about getting a quad), max out the gpu, get 8 gigs of ram (probably from newegg, less expensive), and maxing out the display as well :D

    1) the M17x and the new Clevo m980nu will have exactly the same components inside, so you won't see any performance differences.

    2) yes, CS is through Dell now. we don't know yet to what extent (on-site stuff etc).

    3) the ODM is Quanta, Dell's exclusive partner.

It seems to me that Alienware would make a lot of money if they added 1680x1050 as a third upgrade option.

About the T9550 talk, which other boutique sellers, it's only a $130 upgrade over the P8600. Surely AW won't be charging more than +150$ for it.
Well, that depends on which MXM standard the M17x's 280Ms are built. If they're 2.1, the Clevo wins with it's 3.0b cards.

I think I've found my laptop... However, if it doesnt come standard with MXM 3.0 I dont know if I can make that leap... Erggg I need more information... Plus I'm thinking Sager will find a way to reconfigure the D901 to be configurable with duals as well... or am I just floating my own boat?

ERgg I only wanted to spend about 3-3.5 grand and get 1tb hard drive, X9300 or and I7, a 280m or two, Blu-ray, A sound card and all the other extras... I really dont know if I can justify this pricing while Sager offers a counterbalance that rivals this at a much cheaper price.... But we'll see as both these systems are set to release soon, we may yet see problems with the new M17x or with the Sager... Reliability, upgradability, and power are the most important things to me

Alienware has outdone themselves again. That aluminum chassis must be a big improvement in person, the touchpad seems much more usable, $1800 is a fair price for the starting specs, and dual GTX 280s, a quad-core CPU, and the ability to switch to the 9400M, all put the m17x as the best 17" gaming laptop on the market (including Sager), in my opinion. It still has its' flaws, Alienware probably won't include a LED backlit screen as an option (or maybe they will?), but that's a small thing. I wonder if they're planning to release a new m15x, too. My MacBook Pro is really great, and I wouldn't switch back to Windows, but I'm still a fan of Alienware's systems, too.

with a 45nm CPU, and lowest setting you can probably get 1 hour 30 minutes on battery from the m17x, not bad good enough for an airplane flight

the the GPU in this thing destroys just about everything.

Dual, GTX 280M with 1GB RAM each

The only way This can be topped is by Alienwae's ne wmachine my buddy at the HQ here in Miami Mentioned

Dual ATI's 4870's and Intel's new chipset with i7 core mobile

either 45nm or what ever is smaller on Intel's Roadmap 23nm

So glad I waited for this I will need it its what FullSail is suggesting students get, my first semseter starts soon.
