will dell do the upgrade for me?
or must I buy the parts and fix it myself?
-
The answer really is, maybe, maybe not. -
-
mmmm...mudkips

Mythical creature. -
I'll agree with Quadzilla and Rob41.
Chances are, the upgrade will only be similar to a minor one like from the 9800 to 260.. You will not see anything that you could throw into your notebook and prolong its life for another 3~5 years without a change to the motherboard, which is least likely for a company to do so.
I will not bother upgrading if I were you, period. -
My first notebook that had a changeable Graphics card was a Dell inspiron 8200 , it had the Geforce440go64 meg which i later swapped out for a Ati Radeon 64 meg card
. That feels like a million years ago now . I later had the XPS gen1 that went from a Radeon 9700 to a 9800 , then the Gen2 which was 6800 to the 7800Gtx , then the 1710XPS which was a 7900gtx to the 7950gtx lol. It was always a pain in the booty to get these parts and they cost me a bloody fortune lol but ill hand it to dell for giving my notebook some extra life and a few more FPS
.

At least all the next gen GPUs are going to be 40-nm so there's less chance they blame not offering an upgrade on heat and power consumption problems.
-
I always loved taking apart my laptop to perform upgrades -
With my M17 though, I changed the LCD panel the same day it arrived. -
Next day shipping 4tw, 69 dollars isnt that much when I am already paying 3649.11 dollars for it, plus I get it faster

. There was a time when you couldnt do anything to an alienware without instantly voiding your warranty but they seemed to have loosened up now which is great , it should be even better with this new one since it seems Dell is handling everything from the sound of it.
-
that would make me super happy...
....another thing that would make me super happy...is something im not allowed to mention -
sadly no ^^^^
-
I had Dell sending me, the end user, motherboards to replace in my 1730
They are VERY customer friendly when it comes to that stuff -
good to hear since im dropping 2500 lol
-
Glad to hear Dell isn't An***y retentive about customers upgrading themselves.
I never want to send in a rig. -

Tomorrow I'll have a full meeting with Alienware, but I didn't miss the chance to get some hands-on with this beast today at E3.
There were about ten of the new M17xs in the Alienware booth, which looked wicked cool, and it's an awesome machine. The build quality is incredible, extremely solid all around. The lid especially is very inflexible.
I attached one grainy pic for you guys, it was all I could get today but I promise more tomorrow night. Cheers.Attached Files:

-
no it does not...
not sure if findvikas made a program to do this in one of his great threads though.
edit: though not proven for this unit if it does or not, i take a guess of no. -

mmm...a rave within a laptop
me like
I'll go grab my kandi -
I keep waiting to hear about an integrated projector.
-
-
adddd heavy but maybe not with how small those pico projectors are
-
Right now when I go out on a ship I have to take my home projector with me.
I usually have just enough wall space in my room for a 8' diagonal picture. -
-
actually the lights do pules! if you go to the allpowerfull website and read about the keyboard it says they can pulse!
-
-
-

Morphing and pulsing to the rhythms?
Don't you have to be at least 18 to do that? -
that sounds awesome! always on the go... -
When I'm on a ship, the laptop and projector help me maintain my sanity. -
i think the statement though refers to a pulsing similar to a holiday light that fades in and out, but no mention of ability to pulse with music.
when people get them, maybe they can confirm one way or another. -
I still want to know what happened with the red cased m17x? You can see it in some of the pictures and in the behind the making of the m17x, which is oddly named quicksilver.
-
Take a look here.
I think there are some new photos among other things. -
allpowerful.com doesnt load for me .. is it geographically blocking IPs? :S
-
i cannot access it from my network right now, but then again, the government blocks a ton of sites as it is...lol
