Thought I'd ask some quick financing questions-
First of all, is it possible to get multiple discounts? For example, if you're both a college student and a preferred member, do you get 7% and 4% for a total of 11% off? I doubt it, but I thought I'd ask anyway
Also, what's the process for becoming a preferred member? -
no and a account
-
maybe...
i was assisting in his effort for BIOS OC'ing...
IF you had bothered to read thru the AW forums, you would know that the M17 can be overclocked using a moded BIOS upgrade. being the unit was based off the OCZ platform, MANY attempted this and used the BIOS to OC cpu's in the M17.
so - my answer was correct. we just do not know if THIS M17X can be BIOS OC'd as of yet. -
well there really is no need for me to go legit. I can use the update site as long as i dont install a certain update that is for the validation tool. If anything does happen my torrent site releases a monthly update of vista with all the latest patches. Microsoft does not deserve anymore money.
-
You can combine EPP with DPA discounts for 11% off. Not sure about Student/Military and DPA though.
There's a link on the first post for DPA sign up. It requires passing a credit check. -
Your answer was incorrect because the question that was asked was if non-extreme CPUs can be OCed using the BIOS. They can not be.
Non-extreme CPUs are overclocked using SetFSB. -
Since we're on the subject how high do you think a P8700 can be overclocked to...........
-
haha no problem
i know man, what an a$$ -
omg!!! word...
+rep for my misunderstanding...lol
my bad...i had to re-read the post...
(ok - runs off to corner with dunce cap)
-
Don't go too deep into this subject since it's not allowed here.
-
and the whole purchase has to be in the DPA account to get the discount.
-
yea they already got pissed when i gave a link to a site that had free stuff. So uptight!
-
lol the m17x can be OC'd with BIOS..... as soon as i get it i will be on a hunt for the PLL
-
Don't know. I can't say I've ever seen one OCed. The P9500 has the same clocks and multipliers (but a full cache) has hit 3.03Ghz in the MSI GT725.
-
..SOOOO...
...how bout them lawn gnomes -
That's fine we all have brainfarts.
-
ok thanks, didnt knew that.
-
Can the FSB be OC'd to make use of the 1333 RAM?
as I understand it, it doesn't under normal conditions -
just so you all know...and as mandrake pointed out...
the only way to get a "stackable" discount is IF you can get the COMPLETE purchase on the DPA.
if you cannot, then you will not be able to stack discounts.
they will not allow it. (unless you happen to get a very pleasing and giving person on the phone during the order...) -
The QX9300 in an M17x can only hit the two extra clocks with the BIOS though...gunna need SetFSB to push it the rest of the way.
-
Thanks Phinagle i'll be trying to reach that mark lol i'll be happy with 2.8-2.9 if that would be possible
-
any word on the EPP site and no custom name plate ordering?
-
I assume since the coupon code is there on the EPP site we can also stack standard coupon discounts with the 7%?
That 10% the U.K. is getting with EPP would be excellent.
-
I reccommend you configure your build through the normal site, save your cart, and have a Live Chat rep make a quote & add in the EPP discount for you, thats one confirmed way to get it done
-
Yes but most of the time the discounts through the home site are greater. Plus the Home codes don't work with EPP.
-
that is alot of work! Plus, I have already cancelled my order once to try to get it done thru a dell operator. Not good. I actually got an extra discount on top of the other discounts. Can't say more. DOn't want to screw it up
-
Was it a $100 discount?
-
Would anyone care to comment on how well AW did on the design of the new M17x? I'm curious on what everyone thinks of the departure from the classic rectangular chassis. I'm speaking strictly of things like materials, features etc.
For example, someone commented earlier on it's lack of a subwoofer which should be of interest to many gamers. And unlike other gaming laptop manufacturers (Asus, Gateway, Toshiba etc.), it lacks the requisite compliment of 4 speakers. The M17x only has two?
Save power/speed (can one ever get enough of these?) what would you have liked to have seen added or left off the new design?
Design and material?
Multimedia capability?
Battery life?
Portability?
Features?
Price?
One more thing, did the power brick get any smaller?
-
a little more than that..... I didn't get the discount from the operator. ALso, I got free next day shipping b/c of the software glitch the first few hours of ordering. I would rather have my baby a few days earlier with an extra discount than my name engraved.......
-
Hate the peak but everything else more than makes up for it.
-
Krane please read
yes the power brick is less then half the size
material- aluminum
multimedia-1 TB enough said
Portability - 9400m
features ---
price - check -
...PM me how =P
But seriously how'd you pull that off. If your willing to tell. -
i find it funny how people even think a subwoofer on a laptop makes it better...
any laptop i have ever listened to that had and did not have subs just do not produce the fidelity that desktop/home speakers can. -
If you don't want to "screw it up" don't mention it.
-
Subwoofer killed the 4870s for the M17. Without it the chassis would have had two GPU fans.
-
yup kinda PO about that
-
how hard is it to understand that the sager 9820 only has 1 GPU?
-
10character -
do you think the lights can be configured with ALien control center to resemble the burnt orange in my avatar? A Longhorn ALienware perhaps?
-
yes
Findvikas should be able to modify the program he has to create custom colors
-
For those of you that dont like the peak on the laptop (I do)...
You should take a look at this picture
Linky
I saw that prototype model lamborghini on the wall of the alienware's designer office in the video they released. Notice the peak on the car, I'm undoubtably sure he took his cue's from that, and I actually think it adds a unique futuristic flavor to the laptop
-
your complaining about the price?
it is amazingly cheap for what you get -
I agree. Once they made the front end look like a car's grill the lid had to sit flush with the base causing the peak.
-
i don't mind the peak i like it its obviously different in my opinion different in some cases is good and in this case i think its a good different
-
This was a subjective question, not a technical one. I was inquiring (among other things) if anyone like/appreciated the aluminum when the use of plastics would have been lighter...and cheaper!
Personally I think the use of aluminum was an excellent choice. -
IMO the aluminum makes it seem higher end. I like it, alot. That is one reason the Macbook is popular. I hate plastic laptops like the one I have currently. The aluminum will make it seem like an expensive toy. Kudos to AW on the design.
-
yes i do its stronger, nicer , and it gives something to argue with Mac people about
-
Moo, Macpeople are impossible to argue with. According to them, the Macbook does everything better than a windows lappie.
-
i haven't seen a 9600m gt beat a pair of 280m SLI @ the same price
comes with more ram and a bigger hard drive
