It was a useful way to find the system before it was displayed on their front page or in the laptop section.

i know that but this simply is giving me the normal 1799 system?? nothing any different than the base choices??

and thanks i changed the I to a 1. i simply copied the code as posted a while back in this thread by someone so they must have had it with the I instead..

Yeah, the code for the $2799 is a "2" instead of a "1".

(And I have already tried using 0-9 to see if I could unearth a secret config - gave me nothing)

On the other hand, you could just encourage everyone in this section to buy a fully spec M17x then he won't have to. Interesting, just what percentage of Dell is AW anyway?

I recently returned my SXPS 1640 to await a GPU upgrade, but this system is appealing. However, I don't like the 16:10 screen as much prefer the 16:9 screen for movies. Also, it sounds massively thick but seems ok in the pictures.

    A couple of questions:

    1) Can I turn all the lighting stuff off? Also, is the color white a lighting option?

    2) I'm not a gamer and would be using the system mostly for work/HD movies etc. Do you think this is a good system for other things besides gaming?

    3) How good is the return policy? I'm not really sure what it will look like in person and want to test out the waters. Can I return it without a restocking fee if I'm not satisfied?

OK, I'm getting slightly pissed here. Day 3 of trying to order this machine and no luck. They can't give me the EPP discount even though I have a valid code from my company and apparently you can't combine the EPP discount and DPA. Anyone have someone at Dell that is reliable to talk to? At this point, I might just not even bother anymore.

If it's not, then I'm in a lot of trouble. My research indicates that the same capabilities that make this a good gaming laptop also make it an excellent computer for HD work. Save it's inability to write Blu-ray that is.

    1) Yes

2)Yes but you can definitely find something more fitting to your needs.

3)It was a 15% restocking fee when it was Alienware but now that it's Dell it probably has whatever return policy your SXPS 16 had.

Dell used to never charge their 15% restocking fee.

Well let me tell you they are DEF starting to charge. I just returned a SXPS 16this week and I had to show him my M17x order for him to waive the fee (AND this is after I told him about it being too hot to web browse let alone play games. Oh, and the "E" from the Dell logo on the lid came off :))

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying keep to the topic instead of childish jokes about Macs that are offensive to even an AW fan like me. Fiscally responsible is subjective, if the economy makes a bounce due to some of his large spending it will end up being fiscally responsible in the end if the budget deficit is reduced due to programs and government contracting under his watch. I'm falling into the very thing I didn't want to go into, should stop talking about politics and trashing macs lol.

Not the most graphically demanding, but wow do I love that game.
