About the Driverheaven picture of BIOS, QX9300 has a multiplier of 9.5 for the stock 2.53GHZ. The multiplier in the BIOS can be set to 16. So it can overclock the CPU to almost 4GHZ. Is that right!!! Also with the windows Expreience index score of 4.3????

That's only the pre-production model. The production model only has 2 unlocked multipliers in the BIOS as stated on the M17x website.

Not sure if its stated on the website, but it has been stated by alienware representitives many times, 2 multipliers

....and I surely don't speak on anyones behalf but my own...I think one question mark would do xD

I've just perused the M17x service manual - shares a similar component placement design to the old HP zd7000. Sheesh, I hope I don't need to replace the optical drive on it - that's major surgery.

I've been looking for a good blu-ray burner to purchase for this notebook. The Panasonic PAN-UJ-235A seems like the only model out there that's slot load. I just wish it didn't cost $600.

Anybody able to recommend a cheaper BD burner?

Been researching the Windows 7 upgrade option a lot now, and everywhere I looked points to the date June 26th, 2009

As you can see, purchased units between June 26th, 2009 and January 31, 2010 are eligable for the Windows 7 Upgrade. Course keep in the mind the date is open to change, and if it does it would probably be a few days either sooner or later.

I actually am not very familiar with how this works, if Dell will adopt the program the day its available, or if Dell doesn't even need to be a part of the equation and Microsoft will be offering this automatically. So if someone can clear that part up, it would be very helpful.

Has anyone from EU/UK tried or acheived an extra discount due to the extra pain (bit of an exageration) that we have to go through to get custom name plate etc - from talking to customer service rep i assume? Sorry if it's been mentioned before but this is literally the longest most constantly moving thread I've seen.

I tried to get my name plate customised over the phone, after placing my order but they told me I can't get it done now and that's it's too late. If I wanted it, I'd have to cancel my current order and place the order again. I didn't really get your question Rich but I hope that provides some sort of answer.

Hey guys, first time noob here!

Recently my Hp dv9000 laptop had it's left hinge break (now being used as a desktop) and was looking around for a good laptop to replace it when I stumbled upon the M17x on DELL's website.

It appears that the AW laptops can only be bought online, and that I live in the Phillippines, Is it possible for them to ship to over here? If not could I just order online with an international credit card, have them ship to an address in the USA?

I really want this laptop as it beats the others out of the water :p

    thanks

You can purchase the AW laptop on the phone as well.

Prices for this laptop are much higher outside of the US, so if you can order it from the US site and ship it to a US address and then pick it up/have a friend get it to you in the Philippines somehow that is likely to save you a bundle of cash.

    Good luck! :D

Yes, I did. Well, I just get the standard nameplate, but I did get 10% discount on my total order here in the Netherlands.

I really dont care if I get a blank nameplate anymore.

I think some people mentioned this somewhere in this huge thread...but:

What brand/model SSD are people planning to throw in their new m17x's? Is it worth the fortune that a 250/256GB drive costs compared to how cheap your standard 7200rpm HD is?

I notice people in the UK are also getting 10% off, and now you in the Netherlands, how did you get the discount? I live in Canada and the prices are also very high here, i could use 10% off also.

Edit: lol ok i just read why you got the discount, its 430 am here im tired and not really paying attention, i see on dell canada website there is no option for name plate also, wonder if i could talk to a sales rep and weasel 10% off out of them..

Thats what I did, I ordered my system on the phone, and immediately arranged a 10% discount. Didn't know anything about the nameplate then.

Yes, we have no nameplate option here. Prices in Holland/Europe have always been higher than in the USA. But I dont know if the prices on the US website already incl. sales taxes or perhaps other taxes. In the dutch website prices are incl. taxes.

Oh thats nice, in the US and also here in Canada taxes are not included until checkout, so maybe i should just call them and ask for the 10% discount.

I'm thinking about buying the m17x, but the prices in Sweden is really high, would 4.500 $ be worth spending on a rig like this:

    4 096 MB 1 067 MHz DDR3
    Dual 1 GB SLI® GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M
160 GB HD (probably going to add another one later, is that easy?)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9600 (2,80 Ghz, 6 MB, 1 066 MHz)
    17-inch Wide UXGA-resolution (1 920 x 1 200)
Internal Swedish/Finnish Qwertz Keyboard (Qwertz!? I Want Qwerty! d*mn Dell)

do you think that the CFX 4870 will outperform the 280M SLI? cause if so, i might want to wait for them.

Clevo unveiled new notebooks at Computex. A 17.3" and a 15.6", both with the new Intel Calpella processors. Neither is SLI.

Now I don't know what the hell to buy or to wait for.
Yes, quite easily if they have the GDDR5 memory. It would be a huge upgrade.

Here's the thread. They had the computers up and running though. Check the video.

I fully believe Intel has these laying around since the delays with these chips have to do with resellers having too many procs for the Montevina platform. I'm assuming Clevo cannot sell these until they get the OK from Intel. Watching video now...

    This is likely accurate.

Calpella in Q3 2009 is Clarksfield Quads only with Arrandale Duos (32-nm) to be out sometime Q1 2010 and I don't see much purpose in them releasing soon just to offer 3 Quadcore CPUs.

Then you've also got the standard delay between announcements and sales release. The M980nu was officially announced at CeBit in January and we're now in June with none up for sale. 6-7 Months again would line up with them waiting for the Calpella Duos before a release.

That's all just a personal opinion though.

Thanks Wuzawuza, but does that mean yes it is possible to order online and use an international credit card?

Another question, if and only if I actually acquire the M17x, are they reliable enough to at least last me 2 years? Please tell me yes, because I would have trouble sending it in for repair lol :p

    Thanks,

I believe it will run a X9100 but I wouldn't be surprised if the BIOS didn't have unlocked multipliers for it.

Why not go for the QX9300?

You may not be using all the cores but it's almost sure to OC with the BIOS (likely reaching similar clocks as the X9100), doesn't cost much more for a QS, and only uses 1w more juice.

All of their free fall sensor HDD's are Seagates.

    SSD's (now) are Samsungs.

They still use Hitachi's, but not as much as they used too.

I thought Calpella was delayed to next year...because manufacturers had to get rid of their old stock...but apparently now they can add it in

..this makes me even more uneasy

You'll wait for calpella....... few months goes by..... Then you'll be ready to pull the trigger when Intel announces an update to calpella that sounds REALLY great and worth waiting for (and rightfully so)...... so you wait and a few more months goes by......

    Rinse and repeat :)
