    Hi all,
I've made up my mind and want to buy a mx17.
I would like to have a suggestion from you.

1)I would like to buy the 1490x900 screen option. Reason for that is that I want to play at that resolution and I think playing at native is always better.
Any reason why this choice could be wrong?

    2) Is this laptop going to be upgradable? I mean if a more powerfull cpu/gpu comes out?

3)Furthermore, will the 280 sli give me a lot more power than my 8800 sli I have at the moment? Consider I will choose the qx9300 and the games I will play are ETW, oblivion, Fallout 3, gtaIV, gothic 4, mafia 2, assassin creed 2, basically I love RPG's.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    1) well, 1440x900 on a 17" screen is gonna look mighty big. but hey, each to his own.

    2) yes.

    3) big yes.

Well the next iteration after calpella would probably not be as significant as the change from FSB to QPI; considering FSB is old technology, and when spending 5k+ on a laptop, I'd rather have...ya know...new technology xD

and no i doubt I'd It would be a loop such as the one you explained. The last significant change to the platform architecture was in 2005, when Intel switched to the Napa platform which brought Core 2 duo processors (instead of Pentium M) to notebooks.

So according to what I've been trying to learn more about QPI vs FSB, its a change that people might want to wait a month or two for, as intel will be basing their future lineup of centrino platforms around having QPI, rather than FSB.

Most of us believe it will be sooner. If it helps at all I bought a M1730 last month from Dell and it took 7 days from the time I ordered it to receive it. I know it wasn't a new release but it's a glimmer of hope.

no one really knows if the m17x will have some major bios issue or something upon release (a la ASUS w90) cause no one has gotten a production model yet.

you should probably be able to use an international credit card on the US site...but i cant say for certain since i just used a US one

I'm thinking about buying the m17x, but the prices in Sweden is really high, would 4.500 $ be worth spending on a rig like this:

    4 096 MB 1 067 MHz DDR3
    Dual 1 GB SLI® GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M
160 GB HDD (probably going to add another one later, is that easy?)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9600 (2,80 Ghz, 6 MB, 1 066 MHz)
    17-inch Wide UXGA-resolution (1 920 x 1 200)
Internal Swedish/Finnish Qwertz Keyboard (Qwertz!? I Want Qwerty! d*mn Dell)

i don't see why not. but you could also upgrade your current m17 to HD4850s and get similar performance.

That isn't worth the $4500 (if your talking of US Dollars). Man, that is WAAAAY overpriced.

I would def wait a bit and see if prices come down, but IMO, of course :)

Dell almost always has free ground shipping.

You just have to wait for the M17x to come out first and age a little :)
