Hi all,
I've made up my mind and want to buy a mx17.
I would like to have a suggestion from you.
1)I would like to buy the 1490x900 screen option. Reason for that is that I want to play at that resolution and I think playing at native is always better.
Any reason why this choice could be wrong?
2) Is this laptop going to be upgradable? I mean if a more powerfull cpu/gpu comes out?
3)Furthermore, will the 280 sli give me a lot more power than my 8800 sli I have at the moment? Consider I will choose the qx9300 and the games I will play are ETW, oblivion, Fallout 3, gtaIV, gothic 4, mafia 2, assassin creed 2, basically I love RPG's.
Thanks in advance for your help. -
1) well, 1440x900 on a 17" screen is gonna look mighty big. but hey, each to his own.
2) yes.
3) big yes. -
The 8800 cards you have now are better.
-
Congrats! Abducted in PA!
-
personal choice imo..
yes
yes but as i responded in your other thread it will not be like going form integrated to 280 if you know what i mean, yes for sure will be improved but not a 50-100% improvement.. -
Well the next iteration after calpella would probably not be as significant as the change from FSB to QPI; considering FSB is old technology, and when spending 5k+ on a laptop, I'd rather have...ya know...new technology xD
and no i doubt I'd It would be a loop such as the one you explained. The last significant change to the platform architecture was in 2005, when Intel switched to the Napa platform which brought Core 2 duo processors (instead of Pentium M) to notebooks.
So according to what I've been trying to learn more about QPI vs FSB, its a change that people might want to wait a month or two for, as intel will be basing their future lineup of centrino platforms around having QPI, rather than FSB. -
Love to see your reasoning behind that statement.
Edit: Never mind. I forgot about thread trolling -
not... really.
-
Thanks. The hard part is going to be waiting for it. estimated delivery 7/10 .. that is brutal
-
Plan on buying Blu-Ray? That would be a good reason to go with the higher rez.
-
^^^ good point
-
Most of us believe it will be sooner. If it helps at all I bought a M1730 last month from Dell and it took 7 days from the time I ordered it to receive it. I know it wasn't a new release but it's a glimmer of hope.
-
Based on what?

Thanks a lot guys, you are very kind, as usual!-)
-
This is the same person that called someone racists for saying Obama was fiscally irresponsible. Don't mods have a way with dealing with these people?
-
Yea, I am hoping. I have ordered many systems from Dell and have always had the ship/delivery day out a month but at most took 2 weeks.
-
no one really knows if the m17x will have some major bios issue or something upon release (a la ASUS w90) cause no one has gotten a production model yet.
you should probably be able to use an international credit card on the US site...but i cant say for certain since i just used a US one -
They certainly should. This is the wrong place for discussion like that.
-
8800's better lolololol
-
I'm thinking about buying the m17x, but the prices in Sweden is really high, would 4.500 $ be worth spending on a rig like this:
4 096 MB 1 067 MHz DDR3
Dual 1 GB SLI® GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M
160 GB HDD (probably going to add another one later, is that easy?)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9600 (2,80 Ghz, 6 MB, 1 066 MHz)
17-inch Wide UXGA-resolution (1 920 x 1 200)
Internal Swedish/Finnish Qwertz Keyboard (Qwertz!? I Want Qwerty! d*mn Dell) -
i don't see why not. but you could also upgrade your current m17 to HD4850s and get similar performance.
-
That isn't worth the $4500 (if your talking of US Dollars). Man, that is WAAAAY overpriced.
I would def wait a bit and see if prices come down, but IMO, of course
-
+1000 on the 4850's for your m17....
-
If anyone wants a T9800, I have a QS that I'm looking to sell. Probably for about $250.
-
I just got a call saying the comp is shipping in 4-4 business days so maybe its a lot less of a wait then we thought
-
i mean 3-4 :/
-
Dell CS called you? Please elaborate
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
But Alienware is owned by Dell from first so whats with that acquiring thing? -
haha, 4-4
I like you, you're silly -
Uh, no.
AW was always a seperate company and had zero ties to Dell - until last year when it was purchased by Dell. -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
so Alienware name will be changed to Dell then? So Dell M18X or something in future?
-
Hey now Nvida...give us some details on how you found that out man...you are killing me!
-
Fiat bought Ferrari....but you don't see them changing Ferrari's name?
-

Alright. Hope Dell reduces unwanted shipping charges and other prices.
-
Dell almost always has free ground shipping.
You just have to wait for the M17x to come out first and age a little
-
You're losing track of time, it's bee 3 years already.
-
Well they called and didn't want to talk to me, they wanted to call my father lol.
I call my father asking him what they wanted he says they wanted to confirm the shipping address. I ask him when they start shipping it and he says the CS told him 3-4 business days nothing else was said. -
where are you located, nvida? US??
-
I'm so tempted to buy this
Anyway to tell if it's OEM or retail? Based on the price I would guess it's retail. -
you are all so excited, It'll come calm down xD
-

-
I'm right next to ya in NW PA
-
