I know that having dual graphics is better but is it really much a difference? I could just upgrade later right? and about the ATI's, i thought m17x makes you jump through loops just to access the ATI's (like reboot and do something, I can't remember)?

    just reboot

wont be bad for me i have a vertex

so theoretically you should have double the performance but it doesn't work that way ...about 80% increase ...

...since the systems start shipping early-mid july, does that mean all notebooks already ordered are covered by the windows 7 upgrade?

Or you'd have to wait for the 26th for that

If it is shipped after the 26th, and you don't get a coupon, call Dell and I am sure they can give you one.

I've compiled up this spec list and think its good. I read up on that you can upgrade the ram/cpu later on. So I've left the ram and cpu stock What do you guys recommend for upgrading to? I know for sure ill go for a SSD tho.

Well, after many delays and concerns with the W90 GPU issues I canceled my order and placed my order for this lappy on 6/4/2009 and I could not be happier, but the wait is killing me I fell Like my son does X mas eve waiting for Santa to come, only my Santa drives a Brown UPS truck. :wideeyed:

    Congrats atomcontracting,

I think you've made a good choice. The W90 is a performer with a good price, but the M17X is more current with "knock your socks off" good looks and innovation.

    Great choice of components!

So this is final now? No shipments in June?
So the estimated delivery data I got might be correct after all.

Its gonna be a long wait after all.

Might cancel this order, and re-order once DELL gets this thing on the road.

    urm....why?
why cancel then have to go thru it all again just to be put in queue again for your order.
it seems they underestimated the projected expected sales for the unit.
if you wait and hold off you may experience even longer delays as other parts become 'back-ordered' due to demand.

Unless you REALLY know what you are doing, I would suggest upgrading the CPU now via Dell/AW and doing memory by yourself down the road. Any Joe Schmoe can replace the RAM but replacing the CPU, while technically not that difficult, can spell disaster for your entire machine if you do it wrong.

At a minimum, I would recommend spending the extra $175 and moving up to the T9XXX CPUs (more cache!). I think that would be perfect since you don't seem to want to go crazy with dual 280's.

    curious...
why limit yourself to the 3mb cache cpu?
spend the difference and get the 6mb version.
will you really use blue-ray drive for that?
you could upgrade that later if you so chose to and put the difference towards the higher mb cpu.

I rather think DELL put this thing up for ordering too soon.
Before the even had an idea when the parts would arrive.

What bugs me most is the fact, that when I ordered it through the phone I was told 3 -4 weeks. I ordered it on the 3rd of June and payed up in advance.
Got a final confirmation on the 5th which showed a EDD of 15th of July.

from what I understand m17x likely comes with a samsung drive. 128gig for $200. Sounds like a heck of a deal to me. am I missing something in terms of performance, quality? Or many are saving the $200 and going straight for SLC. Im assuming m17x comes with a MLC.

not sure.. what its gonna come with

no samsungs are one of the top SSD makers, they are not high end likeOCZ and intel though.

your SSD will be fast and it is a good deal and cheaper then what you could buy else where because dell can get them Wholesale

I may be full of crap here, but doesn't OCZ buy majority of components from Samsung? At least its what I thought it was. Im also pretty sure some models are a straight up re-branding. No doubt I will end up with one. Those babies fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are probably right. Controller is where its at on those.
I want to wait for the 1st units to hit some users and get their impressions. Then its my turn. Im going to look weird in meetings as this will be largely a business machine. But what is one to do on those lonely road tips....CS time baby.

Because of the people who already had the AW account and not the DPA account. They didn't like the idea of changing nor did they feel it was fair that they had to.
