Hey peeps, first post here... I've been reading this mammoth thread for a few days and all I have to ask is... what the heck is that thing on the right? ...

Snapped these screen shots from the MakingofQuicksilver.wmv that you download from within the Restricted area of AllPowerfull.com (link says "MAKING OF M17x"). Did I miss something on this site, or is this news to you too? Seems like a sweet color they maybe decided against or are releasing at a later date for whatever purpose... Anyone know?

Love the thread, by the way! Can't wait!

There was originally supposed to be tho choice of the third color... IE the red chassis... As you can see this is no longer an option

I remember seeing a Coffee Brown color chassis in addition to the Red color one in the Makin of ... video. Noticed it a second time also while seeing the same video. Can be my bad eyes though.

On the studio xps 16 they now offer
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE 4X Slot Load Blu-ray Disc (BD) Burner (Writes to DVD/CD/BD)

Wish they had that as an option for the m17x.. I would have gone for it.

I must be the only with absolutely no use for a BD burner but would use a BD player all the time. My wife's Sony has a BD burner and the one time I looked up the cost of media I laughed and never considered it again so I've never used it's functionality.

That is true. The media is still expensive. I would still use it for certain situations... To have the capability for so much storage on a disc is insane to me.. I just like having discs sometimes rather than HDD...

The 4870 GDDR5 is going to slaughter the GTX 280M. I'd be sticking with a single GTX 260M until the upgrade comes out.
With delivery confirmation, you have nothing to worry about. Expect eBay/Paypal to take there 6% though, and the money will be put on hold for a while.

Send a message to negotiate shipping. What exact country is "Arab"?

    Hello folks,

    Long time no post :).

Since the M17 is "dead" now (i was promised upgradeable graphics when i purchased it), i got a few questions.

1.) Does the M17x have upgradeable GPU's? Are the MXM problems gone?
2.) Is 280 SLI better then Crossfire 4870's?
3.) How much do you think i can sell my M17 for? (see signature for specs)

    Appreciate your help folks.

    DHC

More like gas saving carburetors that get you 100+ miles per the gallon. They've been invented but for whatever reason no one is using them.

    1. You can only hope. Mxm 4.0 could be next so don't count on it.
    2. Arguably, yes, better than existing 4870's. 4870 w/DDR5 aren't out yet if ever.
    3. You're going to take a bath unless you're very lucky.

    2. We'll find out when they release the 4870s for this system
    3. Montevina to Montevina upgrade? $1000 USD on NBR, $1500 USD on eBay.

Oh I had it a couple years when the primary graphics card died.

Didn't want to drop almost $500 for a replacement card on an "older" rig so I got my M17 with a three year warranty this time.

Then, about 40 days after I had my M17, I baked the bad card in the oven and it's been working great ever since.

I think my wife thinks there was never anything wrong with the laptop. lol

Depends on how much moo wants the M17x.

I have let things go for quite less just to get the latest and greatest.....

Ok I understand, Startup time, and I'm guessing program boot times? But does it really effect Program and Gaming performance? or is it just faster load times, with lower temps, lower memory, and much much higher price?
