I've heard similar stuff. Like if you crash one out of stupidity they aren't keen to sell you another but that could just be a silly rumour.
As for quirks and problems, that pretty much central to any exotic supercar except some of the Porsches and now Audi owned Lamborghini's.
-
maybe not: before they sell you a ferrari they check you will be able to maintain it (economically), and up of all they want you to make a driving course, to be able to handle a ferrari
-
You're train of thought is awkward. White rich people who drive ferrarri's purchase them and have them the next day. There's plenty of resellers or other auctions where people buy their cars. The only time a ferrari takes long to send is if you customize it to get it as an automatic, which is very rare to see.
Secondly comparing a 2ton+ piece metal to a 7 pound alienware notebook is absurd. -

come on WLF
Money talks, and you flash the cash at ferrari, they bend over backwared for you.
You flash the cash at Alienware they just go MEH! -
Anyways, back on topic. I didn't want to upset everyone with what I've said; of course it's your money and you can do whatever you want but this M15X is something special and if you want it, you can wait for it.
I would love to get it next day but to be honest, the longer you wait for it, the more intense the feeling when you get it hehe lol
Someone also said that if Ferrari did that to them they would just cancel the order and order a Porsche/ Lamborghini. That's fine but remember that a high majority of people who order the Ferrari buy it because they want a Ferrari and not a Porsche or Lamborghini as I'm sure they could afford one of those too.
Well, it's the same in case with Alienware - yeah I ordered one but I could also have bought a Sager/ XPS/ Rock, whatever for a cheaper price but I didn't because I wanted an Alienware, not any other laptop.
Although.. I wonder what they'd do if you said you'll pay triple for a laptop if you can have it by wednesday. -
do you really know how it works at ferrari?? if not, please shut up! it's useles to appeal me as a retarded one, you have no idea on what we are talking about.
it's like I said, I'm pretty sure.
if you buy a ferrari you don't take it ready, you make a full customization -
Alienware's break. The main reason they don't ship them out faster is because of internal management errors. As I said, comparing a notebook to a car is a joke. Cars take months to build, computers take a day. I'm failing to see any link between your comparison.
Secondly, My family purchased a ferrari in 07. Thirdly, what customization can you get on a Ferrari? a 2.5ghz processor and a 8800 GTX GPU? There's a big difference between car parts and computer parts and comparing a 2 ton piece of steel to a flimzy alienware notebook is a joke as i previously said. Alienware is not on F's level. Comparing the two makes me sick. As I said it only takes long to get a ferrari when you are looking to customize it as an automatic. I could go out and buy one right now at a boutique car shop in Delray Beach Florida and take it home today. There's not much customizing going on in the car besides what color you want.
F's don't take 2 months to get to you and then when you get it overheat and suck ass.
M15x's do. -

Eeekie matey, if you are only getting the m15x for its technical ability, why would a clevo M570RU-U not do?
I originally chose the m15x over the clevo because if its looksYes I am such a poser , but hey , the reactions of people when you boot up an m15x comapred to anything else, is big.
I wasnt too fussed about it being 15", in fact had the m17x been out I may have got that (all be it with only one geforce card) as I am not loaded (cant afford a ferrari unless its a matchbox one LOL
)
it still stands however, that Alienware got 2 out of the 3 things right about selling top notch gear.
1. Premium Price
2. Premium Product
3. erm. no they didnt get premium service did they?
I have to agree that the problems with overheating must be pretty isolated, due to the fact that many people will have great systems. It is true that a lot of people only come looking for forums when they have a problem -
I agree BOFH, But it's a little different when Chaz has heating problems. He received a test unit from alienware to write a review for this website. As i said before not many people have m15x's due to the fact they barely ship any out.... if more people had m15x's you would probably see A LOT more people here complaining as well.
-
And I couldn't care less about the fancy lights and Alien branding. Although I do think it's a much nicer looking chassis. It's not as busy looking, and I don't like how the ports and optical drive cuts in to the orange band going around the Clevos. It just looks like a bit of a careless "for the sake of it" design. -
Bo@LynboTech Company Representative
well you have a point there.
I have emailed Alienware in the US regarding their customer support, if they decide to improve it in the future I would definitely want to get an AW notebook
I am not fussed about battery life, just want to be able to game anywhere , like round at friends' houses (mini lan parties)
-
Oh believe me.. I think the design of the m15x is amazing. The smartbay for an extra battery and the ability to swap to integrated graphics for extra battery life is freaking awesome. My main issue is just the overheating problem. I play games and leave my notebook on 24/7.... I also live in FL and the room temp isn't cold. I really just don't want my notebook GPU underclocking while playing next-gen games... So i too am cancelling tomorrow ;(
Trust me - I would love to have a working m15x, but I really don't want to be a beta tester.
When you're buying a top of the line car - there is a level of trust where you know what you're getting is the top of the line and will have no MAJOR flaws, unfortunately i just don't have that trust with the m15x anymore. -
ok guys, two things first.
1. I am not from the u.k.
2. I have not ordered a m15x.
I have ordered an m9750, and live in michigan. Phase 1 -
I don't think this thread pertains to you then Travis..
Your m9750 should ship out soon. I hear it doesn't take long. -
I called Alienware today since they told me to call again since today was my shipping date. The guy on the phone said that they were waiting for the chassis + LCD which would be coming next week and the AC adapter which was coming at the end of March. This was exactly the opposite of what they sent in the emails so I told the guy that it was unacceptable to make a customer wait so long and I wanted to cancel. All he said was 'Allright sir' in a tired voice (must have had quite a few cancellations lately
. He took my bank details and said that I would get the refund in a few days.
Ok so that's done, Ive cancelled. Now Im just waiting for a refund and then Im off to Novatech or Rock.
To those who are going to cancel like me, I say say good choice and to those who plan on waiting, good luck to you. -
.
PS if i dont get any reply by the end of the week on my complaints the next step is writing to the online reviewers that recommend this computer/company since we're half basing our decisions on their recommendations. Maybe dell corp. since they own the thing should be another option? -
and that was it! nothing more.. lol.
i ordered my barebones today, arriving this wednesday! and ironically, that's my estimated shipping date of my m15x! lol! -
-
Well - I cancelled today as well. I ordered the m1730 in my signature for a GREAT price. 3500 after sales tax And they're giving me a 100$ gift card which i will use to buy a backpack for the beast. (or save it for future upgrades)
-
.
-
thanks. Good luck to you guys in the UK with the m15x as well.

my email went to the US sales service email (only one I could find)
however it raised a ticket on my normal account
I will wait and see if I get a response
none so far....
good luck everyone -
I got an email from Alienware UK last night saying that they are looking in to the GPU down clocking issue, which is something I suppose ... but now I hear that the chassis cracks after a less than 2 months use. I'm not sure I can be bothered having to deal with all these problems. I could go with a zepto or a dell similar spec'd but with a 8600M GT (without the lights but I don't really want those anyway) for about £800 less ...
-
Ok, I Order my m15x on Feb 27th, All was well, and I was in happy land content with the knowledge that my m15x had reached phase4 and I would be getting it soon ( it said 26th March eta when i ordered), Like I said Happy Land. That was until today !
When I read this -
http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/12/alienware-area-51-m15x-owners-outraged-by-overheating-cracking/
So naturally I read all the comments, then did I few searches through which I discovered that I had unknowingly been playing the Phase Game, I've read all the comments posted here and am now very upset !
I called Alienware and asked them to reconfirm my ship date, the CS said 26th March was good to go? But that cant be right can it ? not from what everybody has been saying here...
Having now reentered reality, Im stuck do I cancel ? if so what can I order thats just as good? -
Take it easy, you will be delayed too few to notice unless they screw up again. My guess is that you'll be getting your computer begining of April like everyone else but they will not confirm it by phone until your estimated date passes... Don't ask me why.
-
Called them today, and asked "when will you get my parts???" He said next week
Hope that wasn't a lie. Anyway my shipping ETA is 1st April and the rep promised they'll ship it in the first week of April.
EDIT: Mappy don't worry, there were people who ordered even earlier than you, and they still didn't get their systems. Guess the beginning of April will be a tough time for all those workers in AW - so many systems will have to be built FAST. -
No it was not a lie but partialy incorrect unless they hurried something from yesterday. All the parts are supposed to come in next week except the power brick. So unless they managed to hurry that along the power brick will arrive early april which in any case still gives them time to ship it for you with a small delay.
-
Maybe the rep just thought that power brick isn't that important
. He said something like "we have almost all parts, only a few missing and we'll have it next week". I said - so I should go to phase 5 in a week or 2? And he said yes.
But now that power brick isn't so important to me - waiting for April is -
Yeah looks like I have a wait on my hands, I wouldnt mind but everybody in the office is upgrading to Top Spec Mac Book Pro's and have been hammering me about getting the Alienware!
The reason I chose the m15x was because it is on paper by far the best specced 15.4inch notebook, I've just looked and Clevo and Zepto but they are still not speccing the X9000 or the 8800, there's no smart bay either. Even had a look at voodoo, but they seem to have got wrong lately?
Anyways I'll wait it out, some booze should get me back to happy land -
Exactly and that will supposedly mean compromising on the testing part.
I wonder if all these changes in the test and building process that the AW reps say are taking part are also in effect in the UK. -
if you've read the other threads, shipping dates is the last thing to worry about.. it's the downclocking and the heat problems to watch out for. i hope you get a great machine. best of luck!
ps: booze helped calm me down through the long wait.. thank f*** for them! -
Moved into phase 5 yesterday, i presume everyone in the UK did?
Finally in production!
Seems they sped up overnight, i was told it can take weeks to get a system repair done, but sent my old laptop (m9700) on friday and it its had mobo and ram replced under warranty and was sent back tuesday and should arrive today! tracking it via dhl now and same day i find my m15x is being built, happy!
!!!
! -
Boy... I really hope that they're implementing any changes that may come with their latest testing with our orders!
-
@Raezoruk Strange, so they had some parts for the M15x then? I'm still in Phase 4, I wonder how are everyone else doing?
-
UK & still in Phase 4 here too.
-
-
Well i ordered it pretty much as soon as i could in the UK, payment was delayed until FEB 13TH though. double checked and def in production now, even got a private email stating that it is, I hope im not the only one
-
another +7 days delay for screens. uff
-
. If you go to phase 6th let us know, I'll get on the phone and give them hell even though they threw in some freebies today
.
-
Bo@LynboTech Company Representative
aaarrrggghhh! I can't beleive it, what do youmean they threw in freebies ioaniro
well they lost my £1500 for refusing..........now how annoying is that?
I hope you are reading this alienware, Frank if you're out there, tell those bosses! -
don't worry bofh, this is europe not US. In US they'd probably throw in an upgrade in europe they let you choose between keyboard, t-shirt, coffe mug, headphones and the likes. Somewhere between 5 and 40£ worth of stuff
. But my quest to complain to someone goes on
.
-
Bo@LynboTech Company Representative
well yes, thats all fine but I was offered sweet Nothing!
dont you get a tshirt coffee mug and cap with it anyway?
I thought I read that somewhere -
well they didn't offer me anything either. I just called and said look I tried to complain for 3 weeks with no result so what do you have for free to offer me to keep me happy one-two more weeks
.
-
its definite, its because i ordered so early. Got patched through to the line and its already started to eb assembled, about 5 days untill its ready, mentioned freebies too and not sure on that yet. I said about alot of people in uk stillonj phase 4 and she said yes most are not starting yet but mine is due to my config (maxed out basically) and ordering on the release date.
And confirmed that there are no lights around the UK screens as most will know was only the US/promo models. ITs not at all featured in the UK models -
and my repair and order was pushed due to the fact that i ordered it under my company so its seen as a buisness computer, why my repair went so fast according to the guy on the phone
-
.
PS my payment got in onthe 7th of february, just checked it. -
Raezoruk: Are you sure that there are no lights around the screen on the UK m15xs? I talked to sales support via the messenger service and they said it was just disabled in the BIOS, which can be fixed with a patch. Are you saying that the lights are not physically there??
-
did u ask them if they got the parts yet if you talked to them?
-
Good to see some of the UK orders starting to go through
