Hard to tell, but I think it's one of the rear corners of the lid, where it beings to slope down to meet the bottom half of the chassis.

What do you think people, are you going to bite the bullet and order one as soon as they go up on AW site, or wait for others to test the waters and see detailed reviews first? This is my dilemma.

heard they fixed that with the newer silicon anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. :)

did you mean 1.8 megabytes per second? so about 15meg broadband? if so even a 54mb wireless router will be fine.

Yes -- that retailer looks high US standards. Seems to be around $2700 -- MSI GT70 2OD-039US Dragon Edition 2 NV GTX780M, Intel 4th Gen Haswell CPU - GenTech PC

The 3x 128 GB mSATA SSDs in RAID 0 is certainly a high-end feature, as is the blu-ray writer and 32 GB of RAM. Plus there's some additional mark-up for the special edition.

With that said, I still would likely prefer the new m17x over that computer; it doesn't particularly speak to me.

Not a fan of the silver aluminium/black colour scheme on the sides and how the lid meets the base on the corners because it makes it look even thicker than it is already, hopefully there will be a gunmetal option. The lights on the lid also kinda remind me of the old Dell XPS gaming laptop, overall they seem to be taking design cues from older models.

yes, for most people it should be fine, for me it aint lol. I am currently using all four of my usb 3.0 ports + usb 3.0 expresscard on my alienware, can't have that going on and off for me, its bad for my flash drive and external HDD.

mine is pretty loud but thats cause my room temp is so hot, around 30C :(

yea, newer revision of the same chipset but assure you probably wont happen for a while. if not enough people complain intel won't bother until next year, since they plan to refresh haswell CPU for two years. if only AMD can step it up now.. lol. then again, few did mention to have the newer chipset revision out in couple of month so maybe late this year?

@MSI cost at 2700.. thats similar to a M18x with single 780M and can put in multiple SSD in it for raid. bigger screen, more bada**, and aluminum chassis

Intel already fixed the problem in the newer yields of processors, it was the early haswell testing chips that had the problem so it shouldn't be a problem in any OEM processors. ;)

Thank you ;). Still contains a level of English I expect on a Chinese translation:

'Compare to last generation of Cooler Boost technology on GT series in 2012, MSI Cooler Boost 2 technology make a better balanced design, we use thermal bridge connects both CPU cooling and Graphics cooling system together, once CPU or Graphics is hotter than another side, the bridge could transfer the heat to another side faster, so the cooling performance is over 15% on most usage, chip temperature is 15% lower at same watts, and up to 25% lower noise of the laptop system!'

    Arggg...

Yes. I can't really comment on the keyboard as I use a Logitech G11 as the primary keyboard as I feel Alienware keyboard are so squishy you can't game on them.

uhh.. actually no, however the articles I've seen are for desktop CHIPSET, not processor. theres nothing wrong with the processor (hopefully), there is something wrong with the chipset.

    thumbs up to MSI

@Meaker, anyway to take that beast fan from MSI and input it to AW? kinda wanna modd it if its quieter, and better :D

Well, if anyone in the UK needs some "financial help" with an intended purchase, just head on over to my money-saving thread over here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...system-accessories-please-contribute-135.html

Obviously, I can't promise what level of discount may or may not be achieved, as these will on a brand new Alienware Refresh, and as so, prices may likely remain high with discount being low - but, you don't get if you don't ask, right?

Side note: He can assist with European orders too, but you would need either someone in the UK to ship to who can then forward the machine to you or you pick it up yourself OR you could use a freight forwarding service that would allow you to buy and have the goods shipped to you pretty much wherever you are.

Of course, another alternative (if UK prices are too high for you) is to use something like BundleBox to buy from the US.

    Cheers,
    Steve.

I did a research on the new asus g750.. It weighs around 4.8kg ~ 10.6 pounds! Wow... Not much difference from a m18x which is bigger.. But I'm sure the new design from alienware will maybe shed off a little bit weight which will make it a better deal.. I'm just worried about the keyboard and trackpad of these new design...

The Asus G750 weighs in at 8.7 LBS (Edit; may be 10.6 with charger included). The m18x is not much bigger in size profile though, the Asus G series are wide and long enough to fit 18 screens. The new m18x wont be much lighter because of the SLI. The least it could weigh is probably around 9.6 LBS

Does anyone else actually like the look of this thing?

I'm about to say "screw it" and save up for one of these machines. The IPS panels are what made Alienware truly unique among the other gaming rigs. It's a completely custom laptop design by Dell. Makes me all giddy just thinking about it. ^-^

I'm wondering why everyone is speaking of these 1200p IPS displays in the past tense. I'm still not convinced that Alienware will add better screens.

If Alienware does so, then I'll gladly accept compensation for lobbying for better screens. Either that or for my mystical powers, which are evidenced by the fact that I chose the right year to ask for better screens. Please send the money to my account in the Cayman Islands...

well I for one want to see what upgrades and down grades they are going to offer from the gate.. im very tired of they 3 tiers of performance.. there shouldn't be a price deduction because i want a low end cpu and high end gpus..
But that is the case on the site when you build yours.. go try it.. build the same machine on all 3 tiers and watch the price difference..

This might seem like a small thing, but.. I really hope these new ones will still be offered in red. Seeing as it's a gaming laptop, the color actually does matter to me and personally I want something kinda flashy (ie. not silver like every other laptop out there.)

Also, it looks like they got rid of the HDMI-IN? So no more being able to use the screen as an external monitor?

In other words, Dell is getting rid of what makes Alienware unique... Still, I would accept a "generic" Alienware if the build quality, performance, and warranty support were obviously class-leading.

I hope to God that Dell didn't remove the manual GPU switching and BIOS CPU overclocking.

As long as the hardware is still there, I'd be willing to bet some BIOS modders will make it available - just like with the modded A12 on the m17x r3.

That's not accurate. It would be fair to say that "some" or "many" people complain about it, but others prefer glossy. I'm one of the many that prefer a glossy screen over matte. We don't have any reliable data to know the actual percentages, but anecdotally it seems to be about a 50/50 split on preference. It's mostly the matte lovers that speak up and complain about the glossy display, which makes perfect sense in light of the fact that they don't have an option available to suit their preference.

So, realistically, do you think Alienware is actually getting rid of "Nebula Red" (and maybe even black) as color options, leaving only silver? I seriously am not going to order one of these laptops until I see that I can get one in red...

We will have to wait and find out if it will be available in Nebula Red and/or Black. It would be nice to have alternative colors for those that do not want silver. We should know something soon. Maybe they will say tomorrow night at E3.

Yeah, hopefully they will address that in their official announcement. Actually, I'm hoping that that Alienware will have a number of the new notebooks on display at their booth at E3 for attendees to try out. Being a game development professional myself, I'm going to E3 this week and I would like to get a hands-on impression of their new hardware.

I want ATI red/Phantom Black (matte)/Nvidia Green/Sexy and shiny blue/Silver/Brushed Aluminium and moar color choices :D, doubt it will happen though, but on the serious note, Nebula Red/M15x Black/M15x Silver will do as long as its not rubbery coating crap.

As the time gets closer, its harder to wait. My M18xR2 is still stuck at "Work in Progress" but shipping date is still 13/06, :(

What's this on no hdmi in? that would really suck, was mainly looking at alienware over msi, clevo or asus because of that added feature, there is basically no other gaming laptop offering this, I was looking forward to plugging in my futur PS4 (just to play exclusives) into my alienware, pfff I am one of those people who hate TV (I do not own one nor do I plan to), everything I need I get off the internet, so if it is true this really is bad news...
