I hope that's the case. HDMI is a feature I'd like to keep

is that confirmed? because ive never heard of that being done before?

sounds reasonable though. The HDMI in was one of those not talked about features that will get dropped i imagine :( but it was a big draw for me.

well i guess we will find out soon enough

Regardless of weather or not you like actual Glossy or Matte screens, you have to agree, that most people hated that mirror that Alienware put over their screens making the lid twice as thick as it had to be, and dimming the brightness down some.

And I can add (in the name of my colleagues and my own): Glossy is totally annoying and unsuitable to work comfortably in illuminated spaces ( such as laboratories, classrooms, conference rooms, outdoors, etc.).

As Mr. Fox has said in several places / occasions: choice is everything if we really are on the side of liberty and democracy. ( By the way, I don't take for "granted" that hypothetical 50/50% in preferences... )

I did mention the missing HDMI-IN port and extra audio port a while back.
I really hope they don't get rid of the HDMI-IN since I do use that quite often. With an IPS screen it would be a real shame to see HDMI-IN go.
But if Dell have managed to get HDMI-IN/OUT working on a single port that would be even better.
With the loss of the extra audio port however I feel Dell have made some cuts and HDMI-IN may be one of those..

Yes, pretty much although it may take a day or two for the rest of the world to update with the US.
When the 2013 X51 came out, Alienware.co.uk were still selling the older version until a day later.
But if you live in the US I'd imagine it'd be pretty much straight afterwards.

If this is the case many will end up buying something other than alienware, if they turn out as ugly as I am afraid they might and are lacking features because Dell decided to "cut corners", this doesn't bode well for the quality of the new builds

On the Korean website, the m14x only has one fan, so I guess it wont have more than a 750m. Thankfully though it seams to have a CD/DVD/BL drive. The m17x has two fans, so I guess no SLi.

I imagine so as well. A unified HDMI-in/out port would only make sense. We're so close to the reveal event now it doesn't make any sense to burn calories worrying about anything. I'm bracing myself for the barrage of complaint posts when people find some of their favorite wish-list items are missing.

    One question for you, Bud.

Will the new machines be available to order right away after the event, and if so, is this likely to be rolled out in stages....eg. US first, UK second etc etc....or would it be a global roll out. Just thought I'd ask as there will be many eager people to place an order, I imagine.

Really? You can even try to order one, but there's no screen options as I see, also 780 GTX is available only with 4900MQ which sucks for me, as I'd like to have an 780 GTX but don't want to get overpriced CPU.
I hope European sites will have more options :)

So for the M17x, it's a 765, 770 and 780 for low, mid-range and high-end GPU configs. Very interesting. I also see the BD drive is now standard. Along with the new viewing angles of the keyboard (glowing keys are staying), htis makes me a happy camper. Now, give us shell color options other than just Lunar Silver (which don't get me wrong, I like) and the taking of my money can begin.

For the m14x, It'll be interesting to see what the price point of the GTX 765m is in the US, and how well it can power the FHD screen.

So it weighs less than the R2 and R1 then because those are 6.5lbs.

I'm glad they are still offering Windows 7 instead of getting stuck with Windows 8.

    Magnesium Alloy Confirmed :D

"Magnesium alloy frame is reinforced with durable aluminum alloy shell LCD and helps to protect the internal components. Due to the angled front and side walls that are used by elite stealth exterior tile appearance. The rear GPU / CPU vents the heat generated within the system through optimal management of this and brings the best performance."

Surely they wouldn't have given the 14x an IPS panel and not the 17x, too?

Magnesium internal structure, yes. Full aluminium, no - just the lid by the looks of things....
