ok, you lost me.
ati said what it was. so not sure where your going with this. did you read the fine print on their image? the real one on their site?
ummmmm, again..no.
but hey, no hard feelings. im going off what amd/ati's web site is talking about.
so it's all good.

Are you gooing to stay with your sager when they come out.
I'm doing research (cant think of a better word) on the 3870x2 and ocz and they seem to be doing good. but the threads keeps on getting close because of stuff.
but ithink they want a upgrade because it's newer and better. -
Does this help...
AMD Phenom x4 9950 @2.6Ghz, ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe, 2GB DRR2-800 RAM, Vista 32bit SP-1 with a ATI Mobility 3870
vs.
AMD Phenom x4 9950 @2.6Ghz, ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe, 2GB DRR2-800 RAM, Vista 32bit SP-1 with a ATI Mobility 4870
The only things that change are the video cards so we get to see how much of a benefit there is to upgrading. -
ill more than likely get rid of my sager this year for the new model.
now if the ati's are all that at the time, then i'll fit it with them, but if they aren't ill stick with 9800m's. the part people miss is the 9800m gtx is only running at about 70 percent. on quad chips without over clocking. iof i we're to over clock a desktop quad to persay...3.8 ghz the d901c would be in the 18 to 19k range on 3dmark. the ocz whitebook scores are mainly based off the complete system being over clocked. where as the 9262 is only the gpu and what cpu you put in.
as for the threads getting closed...to many violent owners over there...lol -
also..all this talk and amd/ati doesn't even have a picture (on their website)of a 4800 fitting into a whitebook (mxm 3 or 4-regular)..... not sure why that may be... -

everyone is entitled to their own opinions. glad to see you have yours. -

What i want to know is do you think they will keep on selling the 3870 at the same price or do you think it will fall because everyone is going to be selling theres.
and do you think that crossfire is being used 100% now. -
-
o the wonders of busneiss lol
-
I emailed AW some time ago if the m17 will have 4870's they said
Regarding your inquiry, Alienware has not released the new ATI 4870 for your system yet, and I am unable to provide you with a confirmation whether we will release it or not and when
just like i thought a lot of 'we dont know' -
i got alot of then and ifs every time i emailed about my system its been in the testing stage 5 days now..... at least they look closely lol not happy collage starts for me today to ....
dual enrolled HS and collage ughhh
i emailed them that exact same thing "we do not know" "we cannot say yet" -

It's a matter of patience, guys . . . just hold on. Alienware will compete with everyone else. -

Heey can we find a pic of the MSI GT727 with the 4850 and see the socket if it is mxm3 or 4. if it is 3, then the whitebook owners are good. if it if 4 then we might have a chance of fitting one card in it which is suppose to be faster than 3870x2. but not satistisfying. (for me at least.) if it is a weird shape like the line is in the middle then there's no chance.

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
there already is a pic it is sick looking it is fully made out of carbon fiber go to the msi forum it is in there.
-
i think he may mean...one showing the vga card inside....(speculation of course)

Edit: NM it looks like the links are dead thats kinda fishy only a day after it was posted...

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Ok looking now. hopefully i find it.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah i was talking about the vga socket thanks johnksss. but the msi doesnt look bad all around if it just had 2 hdd slots, raid( bio update) dual gpu's, and quad core support(bios update i guess can fix that).
alot more people will be all over that. -

Google translation sorry -
The m17x has no 3870 so it hast do be about the m17?
I am confused now^^
Greetings
Julian -
They're talking about the M17 not the M17x
-
Greetings
Julian -
they will be the same sockets. i have spoke with aj over at ocz and they will for sure be available. they pretty much even have a price (estimate right now) of how much it will be for them...
-
that's great to hear...I'm gonna upgrade as soon as they come out and stick the 3870's in my m9750...do you have an estimate of how much they will cost?
-
Alienware wouldnt come out with a new notebook right?
-
Not that thats not a good thing but I really like the m17 and I would not want to be tempted by another notebook to make the choice harder heh
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
man the 4870's with the m17x body would be sweet though...
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I really that think the m17x looks to great. i love the dell m1730 though. IMO i think it is on another level compare to the rest.(in looks)
-
Yeah, the M17x looks very nice. It may be possible for 1 4870 to work (in MXM-III form) seeing that the M17x has two MXM-IV slots, but I'm not sure about both working because when placing the MXM modules, you place the front of the card facing inside the machine, which would make it difficult placing the crossfire bridge seeing that it would most likely be in front. If a M17x + 4870 does in fact boot up with one, Crossfire may be possible as I discovered when placing two 3870s in the Alienware M9750.
-
-
I know ATI has/had this "difference" to Nvidia ... still?
Greetings
Julian -
they look identical but the master slot is a mxm iv and the slave is only a mxm iii
-
so you will get let money for the master card because more people will need a second slave card than a mater card?
Greetings
Julian -
possibly.. wont know until they start selling
-
The 3870 cards are both physically identical (MXM-III) but are set as Master and Slave through the BIOS on each card.
It's only the slots they plug into on the M17/Whitebook motherboard that are different. The Master is an MXM-IV and the Slave is an MXM-III. -
Sry for this may be sily questions but I am realy not good informed^^
Greetings
Julian -
you have to reflash the slave to a master then it can be a master
-
Yep. Putting a slave card in the master slot would result in a blank screen during boot-up.
-
right but they are actually the same thing just the slave needs to be flashed to a master before doing so. so someone with it being used as a slave has to flash it before selling it off as a master
-
And you just know that these boards are going to be crazy with people that bought a Slave card that wasn't flashed for use as a Master.
-
yea then 500 threads will start up and yea mines well start a sticky in that... so the m9750 can support 2 ati 3870 ?x fire .... i did not know that any one know the price going for from ocz
-
ichime got the 3870's to work in his 9750...I'm going to try and put mine in there after I upgrade to the 4870's...assuming they will be released relatively soon...
-
xoticpc has the msi with the 4850s on sale right now .....whoo day is coming
-
This thread has brought to my attention the interesting vocabulary choices of hardware makers.
Master/Slave devices.
Male/Female connections.
Any more? -
big/small
fast/slow
lol i unno any more o
input/output -
I'm just curious to see how much life the M9750 has...
Also, this site has a picture of the MR 4800 series in MXM-III form (same form factor as the 3870s in the M17). You could thank johnksss for this:
http://translate.google.com/transla...y_hd4000_chez_amd-news-15169.html&sl=fr&tl=en
Though it's just an engineering sample, it exists and due to the form factor, we know it will fit. The delay I guess is due to the matter of getting things to work properly seeing that it's pretty much verified that it will be an upgrade option in the future.
This could possibly be something of interest to owners of notebooks with an MXM-III or MXM-IV slot (i.e. M15x) who may want to upgrade. I'm actually trying to find a m15x for cheap to test if even the 3870 from my system would work with it. -
no problem there...I'd be happy to give it a shot. Hopefully won't be waiting too long for new cards to be released...
