I had a talk with AW and they said its not so much the problem fittin the 4870's in any machine will be so much the issue.. from what i understand the issue comes from if the motherboard will accept it, if the cooling system in the laptop will be able to support it and also the current power supply to able to power it properly.

Well, I can answer that last one by saying the M17 uses the same power supply at the Clevo D901c so...

The issue is heat..that's the only issue with the 4870s. An inside source has passed that along. To answer, yes. They absolutely fit. Without question. The only downside will be heat, which a good BIOS should be able to control. HOWEVER, OCZ and AW is not known for their BIOS coding. So, even tho the cards will fit.. don't expect stability.

Well how hot do you think they will get. what is ati's temp "limit" it can get before they call it dangerous. and i think ati's video bios will take care of that.

I won't be surprised if Flextronics designed a new GPU heatsink/fan system to handle the new GPUs.

i believe the temp limit is around 105C but who knows. Maybe they will be undervolted from the factory, LOL. Or maybe we will see a beefier heat sink for the 4870's

heck, one 4870 would be more than enough power for me right now. if just one would work in the m9750, i'd get it!

the primary GPU has it's own heatsink and fan, and is away from the CPU and RAM, so the heat won't get to that side as much.

    Sorry for asking twice ...
but can it be expected, that one 4870 will be faster than 2x3870 CrossFireX?

    Greetings

I would expect 1 4870 to be better then both 3870 in crossfire, or about the same but there are not alot of games still that support SLI or crossfire correctly, I know for myself.. if the 4870 will be compatible with the M17 I will put at least 1 in oppose to 3870 in crossfire.

So you think I'll get better performance by staing @ 2x3870 CrossFireX and updating drivers from time to time ... than buying one 4870? (two are realy too expensive^^)

    and you the opposide^^

THX to you both ... so I'll have to wait and save the money
    Not a bad solution. :D

Anyone have a confirmation if alienware will release these for m17.Alienware wouldnt tell us im sure .They did same thing with ripley design.2 weeks l8r they released it,so i returned it.I am now in phase 2 with new build I dont want to go through this again.I would rather have them hold off on build then have to return it and go through this again.Unless someone knows for sure it will be an available upgrade?and not cost a fortune? It would be cheaper to get it in initial build?

“It is remarkable that we are now able to build high performance gaming PCs with
over 1 TeraFLOPS of compute power inside. With that kind of performance and the
addition of visual enhancements made possible by DirectX 10.1 and tessellation,
gamers can now achieve cinema-quality realism. It’s an incredible step forward in
gaming and Alienware is looking forward to introducing the ATI Radeon™ HD 4800
    series in the near future.”

-Patrick Cooper, Director, Product Planning, Alienware

This out of AMD/ATI Press Release, although its a bit old it does look like AW is a go with it.

The 4k series will be in AWs or else they wont sell any M17s. Cause all OCZ resellers will have 'em.

100%. I'm not the type to BS. I have 100% accurate information the 4k series will fit, and it is currently in testing. Heat is an issue, but there are things happening to resolve that as well. Expect something public in the next 2 months, 3 at the VERY most. :)

btw some info on crossfire, they ditched slave cards and master cards , the HD series dont need a slave or master card now. 2 identical cards will crossfire with crossfireX

as for the 4870 i believe you e-weaked i think it will fit too

From what I gather..there is a master and a slave. Not like it matters..just 2 different BIOSes. Nevertheless, sources say they are testing master and slave now.

Don't know but seeing as it's still the size of 2 cards I'd have to guess it's still going to be in a 17" or larger laptop....and as AW/OCZ are already using 2 cards in a 17" it'd be a safe bet it's not them.

If it were smaller I could imagine it fitting into a 15" or 16" but at that size I just don't see it.

Not likely the ASUS W90 either since that dtr will be offering a dual 3850 option and there's no mobile single-card 3850x2.
