the fix is to add our device Id's to the list of recognized devices in the new drivers. the hard part is acutally getting them to do it apparently. that's a simplification of what has to happen, but it's a simple problem to fix too.
-
Do we know for a fact that the device ID for the 4870XF is in the Catalyst drivers?
It seems some people with the 4870XF are having issues installing the 10.6... -

I totally do, im just saying, just because you dont have 10.6 doesnt make them useless, 10.5 worked fine from dell, theres no problem with them and that driver. The thing with Crossfire is that not all games support it, most games do, and to expect a huge graphic jump from it is unrealistic, its like 1.5 kinda thing. and applications like photoshop im pretty sure dont even recognize CF, its im pretty sure a gaming thing only.
And another thing the 5000 series is the new card, it will for sure be supported till the end of the year and probably a bit of next until whatever new comes out, and actually probably most of next year aswell. They still support the 4000 series a bit. -

I believe thats more due to stealth mode then the cards themselves, It sounds almost like stealth mode is on right away right out of box and then once stealth mode is turned of performance returns to normal.
-
If you are using OpenGL applications or games, you may want to use Catalyst 10.4 or earlier anyway (or at least the atioglxx.dll from drivers earlier than 10.5), as 10.5 and 10.6 have a buggy atioglxx.dll that breaks some OpenGL applications as well as OpenGL games with Quake III engine and the likes. -
I think it must to do with the voltages in the bios.
-
. I thought the 10.6 supports the newest opengl is what I got from the read out.
EDIT: Oh got another question, how important is the A05 bios to have? is it ok to roll back to an older one or will you lose some functions? -

Problems with drivers...problems with bios.....problems all over the shop from what i can see..... -
Guys, the problem should be fixed. Don't worry...
-
...... I tried
Question though joe, why'd you return your R2??? -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Sorry guys, i appreciate your "calming effect" ...i do tend to worry tho when parting with best part of £2500.....1st gaming pc bought for that and well, being a novice, i dont fully understand the issues being talked about....if they are fixable and will be fixed i dont have a problem....
I just hate uncertainty......does me friggin head in! -

.....that you are!)
-
I hear ya, I'd be more worried about the cards being not optimaly cooled and overheating in the machine, but rest assured they are very well cooled. But drivers can be updated and Dell/AMD are working on it as we speak. Dell knows their customers drop heavy bucks on a system so they wont leave you in the dark. Wait till you get it monday and your faith will be renewed. I recommend putting the hat on once you open it up and enjoy gaming on a power house. -

....... bet i get a tea cosy instead lol
-
-
Makes sense, I remember reading that somewere else on the forums, perfect good to know. Then I guess 5870XF users will either have to wait for the fix for 10.6 or the release of 10.7 instead of trying to roll back bios to run it.
And enjoy your tea cosy stevie. I dont think anyone wears the hat anyways, really tacky and nerdy all at once, but its the thought that counts right? -

Baseball cap or correct drivers.....the public can decide.....lol
Oh and can we be sure there is nothing for the m17x from E3? -

ya that link was just a fix for the one game, Id like to agree with a previous poster and narrow it down to the AW profile, the clevos apparently are working with 10.6

Hey guys I have an HP DM3 but I want to install ATI Catalyst 10-6 over my current 10-5.
How do I know if I installed it correctly? -
-
Ummm ok so I did that and it doesn't even have a "Catalyst version" section in the list. That's weird. I thought I did everything right? I installed the W7/Vista 64-bit ATI Catalyst drivers for the Integrated motherboard/graphics solutions since I have an ATI Radeon 3200HD. Is that correct?
-
-
Okay thanks I will try that. Rep added.
So will 10-6 keep all the benefits of 10-5 + more benefits? -
that is remained to be seen. but ati usually improves with driver updates.
PS: who exactly did you rep?
-
I gave you rep.
I am wondering if I should go back to 10.5 though because 10.6 has nothing in the note that adds performance or anything for the 3200HD while 10.5 does. -
-
Quick question, will catalyst 10.6 work with the single 5870 and improve performance or am I best staying with Dells driver until dell releases a new driver?
-
I dont think the ati drivers work with our 5870's single or duel. For now we have to use the dell drivers until the issue is fixed.
-
The 10.6's work but only in windowed mode for D3D applications. Soon as you go full screen the screen goes black. So close yet so far.

Sorry for all the questions .... my m17x arrives today and im wondering how i should go about checking/updating to the newer version or if i should stick with whats installed.
Advice/opinions welcome!! -
Like I said, 10.6's don't work in full screen so I obviously didn't keep them installed. I reverted back to Dell's 10.5 drivers. -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Right, so 10.5 are the "pick of the crop" at the moment until 10.7 possibly addresses these issues?
-
welp, now I have to wait ANOTHER month for a fix to the BFBC2 load bug.
-
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
- do i need to uninstall the CCC completely first or do anything prior to getting the newer stuff?

Hopefully, the guys at AMD will get 10.7 right!
