that is definitely a 16:9

If I remember correctly Compal is supposed to be taking over production of the Alienware systems.....hope that's a positive thing.

The "pointedness" is barrel distortion on the camera shot I think... I popped my M17x up and looked at it, looks the same to me, but the borders on the sides do appear a bit thinner in the CES shot.

Hmmm, they have not done alienware before I think.
They have used Flextronics, Clevo, Quanta in the past up to now that I know of. I liked the build quality of the Flextronics systems(They also made my desktop psu which is freaking amazing! - Corsair AX1200)

Last minute longshot bet...
No PM67 chipset from Intel means no dual-GPU support for mobile Sandy Bridge, and Dell has converted the M17x to a single GPU machine like the G73, or W870cu.
I know the odds on it aren't any good but that's what Vegas is all about. -
-
-
If it's single gpu as well maybe theyre actually trying for some decent battery life? -
The pointedness does look the same to me I figured it was just the picture. the sides are definitely slimmer.
With regards to 16:10.. personally Im always go big or go home. I mocked the g73 for having 16:9 and now aw has itBUT... I must say it doesnt look as square as my r2 which I like. And when you crunch the numbers.. 1080 vs 1200... its not THAT much..

Can anyone post pics of the new Alienware? Or where can i get the news of the latest release?
Cant wait to c the new one lol.

I would be thrown off balance with 16:9. I literally use those extra pixels for my rainmeter, IM window, and Media Player. Then any random window sits just above my rainmeter. Seeing those stats to me it's like seeing a fishtank. Lol.

I almost convinced my self to jump from my current m17 to read that maybe flex is no longer making the laptop , it's no longer 16:10 and it could be not compatible with cfx
Edit: no amd changed thier naming scheme the dual GPU card is not even out yet in the 6XX0 serie -
-
Only in desktops do you find two GPU on a single card. The new HD5970 will be the dual GPU HD6990.
The rest of the HD6900 cards (incl. mobile) are single GPU. -

Alienware/Dell don't have a booth at the Convention Centre, they have suites at the Palm's Hotel just like last year. If they don't want press inside before the announcements, they can easily keep them out.
In the meantime, I'm keeping an eye on the Alienware Twitter account while streaming CNET's CES coverage (which usually stream most important press conferences). Makes me wish we had such extensive coverage...
Not sure if they will stream the Dell press conference though, otherwise you could follow the press conference through the liveblogs ( CNET and Engadget will probably have one as well).
Or you could just do something else and check back tonight... -
I didn't forget them, I just left them out to not complicate things.
I just wan't someone to design a gaming notebook with a programmable keypad to the left of the keyboard. -
-
Stick to the topic - Alienware. Other products (non-Alienware) can be discussed in the other forums -

It would be a great idea if Alienware and others made the keyboard modular so they and other 3rd party's could make different hot swappable layouts. May be even a 2nd touch screen.

only 30 mins left!!!
-
all we know till now is:
New gfx (cfx/sli ??)
Sandy bridge
16:9 1900x1080 (with 3d option)
new slightly improved design (thin I suppose)
should be usb 3 too...
no express card slot
What else? -
Rep just told me that a new M17x will be launched on 1/10/2011 and asks me to wait so I can decide before I order my system!
-
They should launch it on 1/11/11 b/c thats an awesome day. -
did he mention anything about m15x? *praying real hard*
-
The excitement fills the stands!
-
Where can I view coverage for this?
-
Did they stop with the user comments??? I don't see any?
-
@ doc steel, are you at CES right now?
-
they are posting selective comments only. wonder how many of us from notebookreview are on CNETs live blog.
-
judging by the amount of pp asking for alienware updates, seems like a ton!
-
CNet's live blog is nothing but Alienware.
-
-
Im on there
I only asked about the coffee Dell was serving though -
-
I really am amazed... people join the queue just to trash Dellienware... that's sad...
