Well... all I can say I had almost identical experience to yours, with only 1 difference -- I always got a US rep. Only had 1 nice guy, but he was unwilling to give anything more than 2% discount.

It is the courtesy thing to do especially if the rep was cool and got you some discounts ;)

    sleey0,
good tip also, I did ask my rep, he was ok with giving his contact, I do not plan on going crazy with it.

    Malignant,
I think I am going to change my Processor from a i7 720QM to a i7 820QM, there is a big difference between the two. I will have the same system you have, lol.

It shouldn't unless it's already in production. If you plan to change I suggest calling ASAP. Probably have to cancel and reorder. Be sure to note the config and price to save the hassle of negotiating again.

Can your rep take UK orders as well?

Ive tried contacting dell uk twice now and get some indian person who say that it costs money to make laptops so they are unable to give a discount of more than £30? lol

I'm looking to buy an M11x. Has anybody had any luck with discounts? The best i've gotten is $879 after taxes with free shipping for a Su4100, 4GB RAM, 160 GB HD and Bluetooth.

I called a few times today trying to push it down to $850. After like 9 calls a manager calls me and tells me "why do you keep calling? we have already told you $870 is the lowest" and i just hang up.

With all of the upgrades its $869.99 with the 160GB Harddrive. So i got it to $870 with taxes/shipping. I would actually prefer 250GB harddrive but its been impossible to even get it down under $900 for it. I would like a $850 price on this. No I don't work for a EPP company however I am a eligible student discount since I was just accepted to college.

Call from a diff phoen and start up a diff profile. or use skype. They keep track of how many times and when you call and ask for stuff. If they feel like you aren't gonna make a purchase then they don't really even try to sell you anything.

I'm new here and have been looking at laptops and decide to try my hand at buying an m15x. I just called a rep and was on the phone for an hour more or less gave the excuse that she couldn't add the student discount on top of the all powerful sale going on the alienware site so I'm here to get some much needed advice to get a good deal. If anyone could give me a rep who would be be more than helpful with getting me a discount let me know. thanks in advance.

I don't know a rep you can call, even if I did, some people have been having a hard time getting them to pick up the phone. I can say that a lot of folks here don't get a good deal with the first call. In my case, I had to call 3 people and the 3 person was the charm :)

Make sure your dealing with a US based rep for one, and just ask right off and politely, what % you will like, be realistic, 5, 10, 15, sometimes 20%. If you don't get anywhere with your rep, what 30 mins or so and call back. If you call back alot in a few hours it well annoy them, and at the end of a shift, they are less likely to put up with strong arming, its better to be cool, and just ask for a fair deal. You can also say you are looking at the Asus G73JH-A1 which is cheaper than the AW M17X R2 by hundreds of dollars, but your willing to pay more for quality :). Good luck

    My thoughts;
I do not understand way AW/Dell has such a hard time giving a discount to the 20% of their customers that actually ask for it, I mean really, if you add up the sales just from this site, I am sure the volume makes up for the 5-20% being had. Most people don't even think to ask for a discount.

thanks for the help i took a quick look back into the forum and saw some things that could help since im a student ill try to find a good epp rep appreciate the quick response. I'm after the m15x due it being smaller than the m17x i wouldn't want to lug a huge laptop around a huge university campus.

I guess don't get caught up in all the "" discounts, let them know you qualify for one, but just ask for the total discount you would like, they seem to get confused when they have a base price that starts out at a discount. Example, a Beer Keg is $100.00 base price, you say I have a student discount ;) of 10%, so now the base price to them is $90.00, then you ask for 20% off, well that would be $72.00 or 28% off the beginning base price of $100.00, they will not go for it. 20% max seems to be it. Ask for 20% at the beginning, and go from there, tell them a co-worker got that deal, but do not strong arm them, that will make them give two ishes about you.

its not just weight but just having a little more battery life is also nice too and cause i want to be able to reuse an good size laptop bag without having to buy a new one  . also i did look at the m17x and was yes i wanted this at first but then saw how much i lacked in money to buy it so im trying to get something with the same quality but having to fork over less cash to dell :p .

I don't get an EEP discount other than AAA 6% plus the Dell Preferred Account 3%?

If anyone has a good rep they like, who offers 20% or so, PM me and I will order from them. Otherwise, Sager is the better value for me. I want RGB and Dell warranty though.
