well the reason why i got the base screen was cause i actually never use the laptop's monitor. i use the external one. i had the M15x and i ended up using the monitor for like 1 hr literally. soo i guess i dont really need the rgb. rather get extra external

but they are really nice. i used before with studio xps 16

Wow, I hope I can get a deal like that! 26%! Im going to use the Asus G73 comparison to hopefully get quite a bit off. Its about a $1000 price difference between it and alienware of sim spec's. The specs I have are pricing $2890 with epp... I hope I can get it down to $2200-2300 with a reps additional discounts...
Do you have your reps email?

Guys, I really want the M11x with SU4100, 4GB, 250GB, and bluetooth setup. I have a 17% employee coupon from my dad but i'm still looking at about $750 after tax (I hate tax).

My goal is around $600, and I'm ok to go with $650. Any advice? What number have guys been calling to haggle?

    Thx

So I was on the phone with Dell for 50 min. All I wanted is the M11x su4100 and 4 gb memory set up. I told them I can get this for about $750 with my dads 17% EPP dell coupon. My limit is really under $700. The tax really kills it. They keep asking me this and that, in the end they will not give it to me for $700 including tax. What a bummer. What's the cheapeast anyone else has gotten this for? I wonder if I should wait for the next promotion and apply that coupon.

Figured I'd tell of my experience. I'm ordering my M17x tomorrow, its going to cost me about $4,400 after taxes and shipping and handling. The first sales people I was talking to were foreigners who could barely understand a word I was saying so there was no way I'd order through them.

Next I found Team Blackhawk so I called them, I tried to haggle and get the laptop for as cheap as I could, they would only offer me $50 off of a $4,000+ computer! I ended up with some questions that they couldn't answer but technical support could, so they offered to transfer me which I accepted but I politely asked to be connected to an American technician.

So they transferred me and I explained my situation and asked about the video cards (I want dual 1gb ati 5870's in crossfire as soon as alienware offers it so i was wondering how much it'd cost to get a technician to install them for me, i don't want my warranty going void). He was a cool guy so I talked to him for like 5 minutes explaining my situation and he offered me 12% off if I ordered through him. Not only that but he said he'd put it in his notes that I'd get free upgrade installations from their technicians as long as I order the parts through them. Which I guess these upgrade installations normally cost $200. So I'm getting 12% off and free upgrades. He also gave me his email address and we have been trading emails back and forth to ensure that the ordering process goes smoothly. Also, I asked him about speeding up the delivery date, a month is a LONG time to wait for the laptop. Currently he is working on seeing if he can speed that up, he said he may be able to do it. He's the man.

I know that this is different since I live in Mexico, but the prices are HIGH here if you compare them with the US prices.

I want an m11x, I have planned to buy it since I first heard of it.

Here is the deal, the base configuration here costs : $14000 mexican pesos = $1130 USD after taxes, import duties and shipping. Thats a HUGE difference because in the USA you pay around $900 USD after shipping and taxes for the base config @ Dell.com.

I called today to Dell Mexico and told a rep that I was looking for the m11x and she told me that the base config was "weak" I told her that Im an university student and I cant afford the upgrades and then asked if there is a student discount, she said no... I replied saying: What a shame... Apple offers a discount about $100 USD to students... She said that she wanted to send me the config price and details to my email, I said ok do it and guess what? it was not the base config! this one included for the same price:
1- The core 2 duo processor
    2- 2 years of McAfee® VirusScan Plus
    3- Bluetooth
    4-Integrated Gigabit Network Card

She wasnt AWARE, she didnt know that it wasnt the base config!. I was about to pull the trigger and she said well tell me what are you trying to do with this laptop? what do you study? I said I study Electronics and digital systems engineering and I want it for that and gaming, she said well 2gb of ram and 160gb of hdd isnt good for that, I said: I know it could be better but I cant afford it and Im about to pull the trigger but you know... Im not sure. She said I "could" see if my manager accepts to upgrade this but Im not sure and its not safe that Ill be able to offer you something else. Ill send you more details later. I said ok thanks bye.

8 hours later and still no response!?!?!. What should I do??!?!! Please help! Should I ask for more ram? more Hdd? more what? How can I fight for more? What strategy?

    Thanks in advance guys :D :D :D :D :D

BTW This config is valid until: 29/04/2010

Well I called Dell to inquire about an Alienware M15x and spoke to a nice rep. for about 30-45min. He was very helpful and willing to find any and all discounts for me. I ended up getting the %16 Boeing discount, 3% for the finance offer, free S&H, and another $50 off for siging up for the EPP newsletter. Do you guys think this is the best I could do? I was trying to aim for close to $2000 but I like the way it's setup, don't know if I want to downgrade some parts to reach my target price.

To save a little money you could buy more ram later when 4 GB modules are at lower price. Just get 2x2 for now.

Ya I'm debating if I should switch to the i7 720 and just 4GB of ram. It'll bring me down to under $2000 I think.

yeah kush. is there a reason that you need 8 gb of ram? if not i would say that 4 is enough or six max unless you need it for something specific. as sirhcz0r said, you can always add more later when you can get it cheaper.

To be honest with you I don't really know LOL. Was just thinking more is better. This notebook will replace my desktop as my primary PC for surfing the web and some gaming. But what do you guys think on the price I'm being offered?

I got a question I forgot to ask, but my rep. told me the GPU on the M15x is not upgradeable. Is this true, I thought it was?

for just surfing and gaming you wont need more than four. if you want some extra dont go above 6. you wont need it. more is better, but only so far. you need to be doing some insanely heavy duty stuff to need 8 gb of ram.

im getting an alienware as a desktop replacement and i will probably get either 4 gb or 6 gb DDR3 @1333mhz. Ram is an easy upgrade down the road too. if i were you, id lower that a little and save a few hundred bucks.

Thx for all the input/help guys. Looks like I'll switch the 8GB of DDR3 to 6GB. I think that'll bring me down to around $2500 or close too it, with everything else staying the same.

Everything else looks good though right? Let me know if you guys see other changes I should make. I'll most likely be pulling the trigger on this machine by Friday afternoon. Since my current quote has been the best I gotten, I talked to atleast 6-8 Dell sales rep tonight.

Looks like a good discount. Generally they won't go over 20%, which is right about where your at. I had the same thoughts on the RAM. Enjoy your purchase ;)

    Hello!

I'm interesting in getting an M11x. I signed up for Alienware Arena to get the $100 coupon on upgrades, and I'm not sure what's the best thing to do:

    a) upgrade processor
    b) upgrade RAM+HDD

Also, have people had luck getting EPP discount on the base $800 model by calling? EPP site only lists a preconfigured model.

Thanks in advance! (first post, don't shoot me!)

Just placed the order on my system. I just changed the ram to 6GB DDR3 and everything stayed the same. Got the system for $2500 even, saved around $600-$700 I think. I can't say how happy I am, this is going to be my first Alienware system.

My sales rep was unbelievable willing to go through hurdles for me and apply any/all discounts he could. This is what really made me a happy customer because they way I feel is if you want me hard earned money, you better be willing to earn it also, from me.

Thx again to all that helped me and to these forums, because I would have ended up with something I would have regretted buying if not for this place.

    Welcome to the forums!

Not gonna shoot you, but these questions have been answered already multiple times. :)

There used to be a place called "Side Topics" with a thread " SU4100 vs SU7300" which isn't available anymore since that part is closed. Someone can PM mod to get it back if you want, but in short it's not worth upgrading. The performance is the same.

I wasn't able to get EPP applied to base conf, but I got away with 10% Bing Cashback discount. Some people did manage to pull it off apparently, but you really need to get in touch with a nice rep (unlikely).

I've PMed BatBoy to get that thread back to the AW section just now.

**NOTICE** For those interested, Dell EPP is offering the Base Model at $871 with a two week prelim ship date. Get it while the offer is still good. Likely it will only be a few days.

Here is the thread, BatBoy was kind enough to move it over so it can be accessed now.

highly doubt that as with warranty is it volatile liquid to them and only give you good prices when buying it from them and when you come back to them to extend the warranty its like free money for them unless you feel the laptop may soon have troubles(slight hardware issues or maybe a possible dead part) which they are guessing why you are asking for an extension on the warranty imo.

I have not tried to haggle on an extension for a service contract recently, but in 2004 I bought an Inspiron 5150 with 1 year onsite & complete care. About 8 months into the contract, I started calling once per week to see how much an extension would be & if the pricing changed. During the second or third week of calling, it dropped $10 for a 2 year extension (I think it was $190). The fifth week it dropped to about $50 less for a 2 year extension (I think it was $150) & I took it.

Again, that was in the spring of 2005. It is highly probable that their policies have changed since then.

Head to support.dell.com & look on the left side for the link "Extend & Upgrade Warranty". Use that to get a quote (they might have to email it to you) & you know where to start when you call them later.

    Good luck!

Thanks for these coupons! I'm looking into an M15x order! Apart from the EPP 10% and these coupons, any thing else that might bring down the price? I have never called to make an order and I don't know if I can "haggle". I might give it a try.

    Thank you
