Thank you for Purchasing Alienware
Total: $1,119.00
Discounts: $1,019.00
Do you guys think this is a good deal or I could get a better one.
If I downgraded to 320gb hd and the SU4100 processor, he can only discount me 50$ and still give me 2nd Day shipping for free.
Total: $944.00
Discount: $894.00
EDIT: So I found out that EPP discount + $50 totals to $1,001.20 with the same configuration and with the 2nd Day shipping the total is $1,013.20. Messaged him about that on facebook and he now wants to contact me via phone. -
Hm I bought the config in my sig SU4100, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD for $980 total price which came down to $890 after 10% Bing Cashback (which I got deposited few days ago). That's after (NY) taxes and shipping.
If yours is $894 after everything I'd take that. 70GB HD space extra is not worth $100 (for that money you can buy brand new 500GB HD). -
It's 180gb for $75 more. my budget is below $1,000 so if he can make a better deal for me when I talk to him tomorrow that would be great. It looks like he'll only give me discounts on the upgraded processor and the Harddrive. Getting a new processor + 180gb more harddrive space for about $100 is pretty good in my opinion.
-
AH yeah sorry, 180GB more (320->500). Still bad tho - new 500GB HD is $100. Two processors are, for all practical purposes except virtualization, identical.
But yep, they offered me the same thing - only discounts on the EPP overpriced version (which werent really *discounts* since the starting configuration was heavily overpriced). You can mention the bestbuy deal as well... it was $900 but with 4GB RAM, 250GB HD and SU7300 I believe - there's a giant thread about it on this forum. -
Yeah I saw the Bestbuy deal. I would get it but it doesn't come with bluetooth or any hd space. Is it easy to replace a laptop hd?
-
Very easy, turn it over, undo the 8 screws, remove baseplate, undo two screws holding the HDD caddy in place, undo four screws attaching the HDD to the caddy, replace HDD in caddy, screw caddy back into laptop, screw baseplate on, format/install, enjoy.
-
You could maybe try and say to him hey this is what bestbuy offers... and if he matches it then.... so I'm on the fence now, both same price.... if we could just throw bluetooth in (only $20 extra) I would seal the deal....
(using the 1st post advice).
-
Hey guys how is it going i am new to this Forum. i just have a couple of questions for you. i have been researching over the past month about the new Allienware m15x. i am set in stone that i would like to get it. the only question i have is can you guys help me customize it. i budget is around $1500 give or take a little bit. Any suggestions i plan using this for gaming and school
-
-
Mine was just 2 screws to get to the HDD. The two under the battery. -
ok thanks alot for the advice basically i am trying to get the best bang for my buck. if you or anyone has any more advice it is greatly appreciated. i just want the final coast to be around 1500 after all the discounts and what not. question about the processor, if i have a better processor will i be able to run more apps at the same time with out it being laggy or waiting for them top pop up. i just have one more question is it worth getting the blu- ray and up grading the panel to 1920x1080. i tend to watch alot up online movies but i dont know if i will actually use the blu-ray i think i just like the idea of having it lol. thanks for the advice cant wait till star caft 2 comes out to play on this.
-
Blu-ray is only going to help if your using blu-ray discs. As far as the screen, I like higher res screens because they give a sharper image but it's really personal preference.
-
I already qualify for an automatic 16% off through EPP. Is it possible to stack on other discounts to that?
I want the M17x.
I may just use my 16% off, try to use the $50 off coupon, and politely demand a free backpack. Then once the deal is settled, call back the next day and throw a fit until it is upgraded to free next business day shipping.
Maybe I should be more aggressive though, I don't know. What I do know is I need to set my limits now so I am unwavering in the assault. I'd like 18-20% off altogether. -
I believe you can use the $50 off you get from subscribing to Dell.
-
I wish I read this about 2 weeks ago. :}

I just need some info on the warranty that dell provides for Alienware. Can you extend the warranty before the first year of warranty ends? (like other dell laptops?)
I am a little confused on this:
1 988-7347 No Warranty beyond 1 year
1 905-3017 Dell Limited Hardware Warranty Plus At-Home Service, Initial Year
1 990-8029 1 Year Limited Warranty and Next Business Day,Desktop
1 906-0700 In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis , Initial Year
1 994-3730 Warranty Support,Initial Year
No warranty beyond one year? but I am still able to purchase extended warranty later on, right ?
Thanks in advance for the input -
hey just wondering if there really is a big difference between the i5 540 and the i7-620 and 720 is it worth spending the extra money to upgrade
-
You can purchase a 1 year warranty and extend it anytime during the 1 year. Once it expires, you can't upgrade.
-
second your proc is based on whether you need for certain apps like photoshop etc.
and from my experience with 620m i have been very pleased both in actual use and benchmarks but it ultimately comes down to what you want. -
The 620M (Dual Core) vs 720QM (Quad Core) debate is such a tough one! Here's a thread on it for more reading: i7 620m vs 720qm
As you can see it is basically 50/50. I think if you are going for primarily gaming it isn't much of an issue, as the GPU is what you should be concerned with. -
well my budget is roughly around 1500 give or take some, i dont plan on using this computer for video or photo editing. Mainly i want my new computer "alienware m15x" for Gaming and for college use.
-
if its just gaming stick to dual core either i5 or i7 dual cores also if you on that budget stick with the 1600x900 screen saves 100 off total cost. also call a rep an epp rep and ask for 20% off right away and once the rep has your configuration remind him about the 20% off you asked for he'll put you on hold and hopefully come back with a good price for the system you want
this is what i recommend to configure with him
i5 520m
ati 5850
4 gb 1066
even this should come out just above 1500 so as i said call an epp rep and you can even just get the 10% and it should be within your budget.
good luck -
Man you had one awesome rep, 20% is rare imo.
-
did what i stated above and got 20% off it was awesome to save a lot of money for a fully loaded M15x(when i ordered lol) -

First Post! Wanted to share my experience on utilizing this thread!
Purchased M15x, Original Price of my build was $1944.00
Got quoted at $1665 by first rep.
Called again, got quoted $1614 by second rep.
Called again, told the rep about the last quote, explained I had a budget of $1500.
I spoke with him if he can lower it even more if I use DPA, says he can drop it $50.
Which would bring it down to 1564, but instead he told me it came out to $1549.60!!
I then proceeded to tell him that I'm deployed overseas AF, and that I needed it soon before I go from this station to the next location because my unit is 'moving' lol. I politely asked if he can give me free NBD, he concurs!
Totalling to 1549.60, Free NBD, TAX FREE and FREE on the State Environment Fee!
1944.00 Subtotal,
1549.60 Final Price
394.40 In Savings equalling to a little over 20% discounts!
Along with the fact that I saved on taxes and NBD shipping!
Makes my deployment a whole lot better! -
nice job glad to hear someone else was able to 20% off and welcome to the forums.
stop by the M15x owners lounge great for tech support and etc.
and again congratz -
Has anyone tried getting some discount off the M17x-R2 with 5870s? I just tried and they only gave me EPP + 100 off. Seems harder than before. =(
-

Not to shabby, saved $539. About a 17.5% discount which I was happy with. Didn't do much haggling. It's late and I wasn't in the mood. lol I had headaches ordering through regular EPP reps, wrong orders, cancels ect, so I went to Team Blackhawks Ben from Facebook. Great guy. Plus I don't pay taxes or shipping since I'm having it shipped to Iraq. So I really can't complain.
Obviously when it gets here it's going to look like my sig since I have stuff ready to be installed.
Also wanted to take the first post on page 100 to celebrate 100 pages of savings in 3.5 months. I wonder if I could add up the total for the amount everyone saved, what it would add up to. Take that dell! -
Grats DR650SE.
I ended up just ordering online (yeah I know... throw stones at me), but just wasn't in a mood for anything yesterday. Today it was raining and I just felt meh... like I'd stay sleep the entire day.

that deal is retartedly good bluekorn. We don't have such awesome reps in canada i suppose.
-
Hi Bluekornchips - I'd be interested in trying your rep if that's cool with you... thanks!
-
Hey blue np. That's the same spec as mine (CPU's are the same price), you have adv warranty so +$60 there. WHat gives the difference? I mean apart the fact that I am getting ripped off by NY tax. ^^
-
Nothing major really nreal (lol), just the warranty and nebula red and free nbd shipping.
Ill pm you my rep info together nothing when um in my computer (on phone atm) -
Thanks. Ah yours is Red! That's why it ended up more expensive.
I'll upgrade to NBD if nothing else. Even though 3-5 days delivery came pretty fast last time (shipped Fri afternoon, delivered Monday morning). -
@unreal, what color are you getting? I got a black to match the M11x.
corny but whatever I like it lol.
-
Funny you said it that way - since I'm getting Silver to match my m11x!
I like the kind of gray/silver that's on m11x + it fits with anything.
All 3 colors look pretty good, but was deciding between Black/Silver - what pushed me on the silver side are finger prints leftovers... and I like to umm... touch mine.[I know this sounds weird but it's one of those quirks that I have.... like playing with the rectangular selector in Windows
]
-
Yours was the 1000th post. Nice
Yea I was debating on the silver for that reason too. Than I decided black was just a little less attention getting. Red is just too loud for me and I thnk I'd get tired of it. So black was the safe bet. I can't wait to have the two systems side by side. -
Oh didn't notice. OK then at least I have to haggle for NBD shipping, don't wanna see 1000th post in this epic thread wasted.
When it arrives, I'll have to think what to do with my desktop (Inspiron 531) - either sell it but doubt if its worth it... + it's so stable I could put that little server in my office. At the moment I am happy to report Inspiron531 aka ... khm.... "Deep Space 9" has been running my private SSH file server for ~1.5 year! It's hard to say goodbye..
I'll leave my old XPS m1330 with my family in Europe this summer. So that will complete my Dell -> Alienware transition: m1330 -> m11x and Desktop Inspiron 531 -> m17x. -
lol i hear you on that. I've been using my Inspiron 1720 for over 3 years and still love it. Giving it to my brother in a month.
Also updated the original post with the following info:
