Hey so I have an educational discount, should I apply that when I put the item in my cart?

Anyways I was looking at an Alienware M15x with an i7 740m processor, 4gb of RAM, 900p LED Screen, ATI 5850, 250GB Hard Drive, 9 cell battery (everything else would be the default).

The cost of the system is around $1700 with my student discount. Could I haggle that down to say $1500 or so? I also have to say that that initial $1079 price is really deceiving, because it would be a way better idea to get an M11x at that price then the M15X.

I'm debating between the M15x and an ASUS G51j, the M15x has a better cooling system, looks better, is made out of better materials, has longer battery life, BUT costs $400 more then an Asus 51j with a free mouse, 2gb more of RAM, and a 500 GB hard drive. So I would like to get the price down.

Save your system on your wish list, then call a rep, it can't hurt. Tell the rep you have a system saved, and you would like to get a better deal.

@lookitsakyau, I don't think coupons can be discussed about. Unless you're simply asking if they exist (not to know them exactly)? I don't know the rules on that  . Check out the forum rules I guess.

Just ordered an M17x-R2 and got a total of 19.8% off MSRP through EPP! $3233 before any discounts, $2593 total price after negotiating for 15 minutes. The normal EPP is 10% off. The Dell Home site is offering 15% on $2899 and above; which is a better deal than EPP 10%. Robert, in EPP, matched the Home 15% and then took an additional 2% off. I then inquired about the EPP $100 coupon code (expires 7/31) and also got that. He had to go clear that with a manager. I then tried to get the 3% off using Dell Preferred Card but no go on that. I was still able to get 0% for 1 yr and free 2nd day shipping. I also will be purchasing 8 GB 1333 RAM and a 500GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4 w/free-fall sensor HD. I could buy them cheaper elsewhere than the upgrade price on Dell so I ordered the cheapest HD and cheapest memory config from Dell. This gives me a second hard drive plus 4 GB ram (2 x 2GB) as spare. It came out being a cheaper price than if ordered as part of the system.

dcronshaw, nice job on the deal. Glad to hear the haggling worked out. That normally proves the most difficult for people.

What specs did you order in total?

Below is my order with 4 yr advanced warranty. I also ordered from other sources a 500GB Seagate 7200 rpm drive and 8 GB DDR3 1333 10666. The reason is because I could order each item cheaper from other sources than Dell was charging (even with the 19% discount) to upgrade to both items. Someday, I may upgrade the CPU. I was not sure if the heat sinks are the same for the 720QM and the Extreme 920XM or 940XM. I asked Joker in a different thread if he had any issues with his 940XM.

Oh man I am so excited right now I just sealed the deal on the m17x and am now going to officially be an owner of these beasts! These were my specs:
    Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    317-3663 1 4GB Dual Channel Memory (2x 2GB DDR3)
    330-7841 1 Alienware M17x 240W A/C Adapter
    320-8856 1 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED (1200p)
    320-8988 1 Crossfire 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5870
    342-0667 1 320GB 7,200RPM SATA-II HDD

The total came to 2374 out the door with free shipping and NBD. Thank you for this thread the information was incredibly helpful in getting the best discount possible. My rep was also extremely nice and did anything he could to make sure I was satisfied. All in all I'd say this has been one great experience :]

None of the x40QM nor x40XM processors are available from Dell factory installed on the M17x-R2 in the US. Not sure elsewhere, I assume it's the same.

Don't rain on my parade. Much like what the guy above said it's not being offered in the U.S. at the current moment but I'm going to be buying the 940XM shortly anyway so regardless it's still going to work out either way.

    1 1GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5870
    1 250GB 7,200RPM SATA-II HDD
1 CompleteCare Accidental DamageProtection, Inspiron, 4 Year

I think those are the important details.

    (Taxes and $19 shipping INCLUDED)
    Price Before Discount - $2,852.85
    Price After Discount - $2,323.11

18.6% off total. 20.45%if you count the $50 gift card included with 4 year warranty.

I did everything through Live Chat.

Added my configuration to the cart as recommended. This is very important to save time.

At first, I had 3 year complete care warranty selected so the original subtotal was 2717. Clicked live chat and asked if I could get this config for $2300 after taxes.

They simply said the best we can do is $60 off. Well, that sucked, so I tried again later with another live chat rep.
They said exactly the same thing.

I then tried through EPP since I have a AAA discount. This built in discount is 10% off. It brought my subtotal down to ~2450.

I went to live chat and asked if I could get this for $2300 after taxes.

The EPP rep said he was going to check for "manager's specials."

A few minutes later, he comes back with a quote for $2323 as soon above, but with the extra year of warranty. I asked him to email me the quote and he did, where you can just check out online. Not sure how long it was valid for.

After I had the quote, I went back into live chat with non-EPP and asked them to beat this price. They said that they cannot, and quoted me $2508 for the same config.

I took the original $2323 as I was satisfied.

I did not say anything haggling related besides "Can I get it for this price."

EPP reps, who I think are in USA, have better access to discounts.

Later on, I'll probably go back in and see if I can get Next Business Day like some of you have hehe.

Thank you for this thread. I had no idea you could do this with Dell.

Once again, I did everything through Live Chat as I was phone shy haha.

with absolutely no discount at all you are looking at $1853, but with standard discounts it goes down to 1603, so about 150 dollars of haggling done. Do you think this is worth it, I have been trying hard to get this to 1400.

P.S. the Dell reps are super annoying or at least this one, literally called me 8 times today leaving multiple voice mails, after I said I will not answer tomorrow by phone email only lol.

Roughly 20% seems to be near the top end of discounts so your deal looks good tarantjt.

Although, since they might not be able discount further, you could possibly get them to extend your warranty for little or no cost.

All looks good but i would really go for the 5850 especially with the 1080p, i had the 5730 and it was good but nowhere near as good as the 5850. Cost me £111 post order to upgrade and it only costs £60 at time of purchase. Also if your not going to get a bluray drive consider getting the smaller res screen as youll see increased performance whilst playing games and from what i hear the screen is still great.

my opinion drop the ram to 4gb and get the ati 5850 trust me it will go a long ways and you can get a 4gb stick from the nbr marketplace for $75. The video card is key to make your system last a long time. In UK some people used QUIDCO to get cash back 10%. Also if you can spring for it get the 1080p screen if you like the extra real estate and detail in gaming. The 5730 ati will be fine with the 900p resolution but the 5850 will tear it up and it has amazing overclocking capabilities and GDDR5 versus GDDR3 in the 5730.

After some extreme haggling, I was able to get an additional fifty dollars off and free shipping.

Hint: I told them that another rep called me and offered me fifty more dollars and he was able to increase my discount.

I just realized about a hour or so after placing my order, I used my chase card. I get points for the purchase that will give me around 100-150 dollars back on my card haha.

    Guys,

I'm going for my 2nd Alienware; this time trying to get an M11x for my wife. Current config I've worked out is putting it close to $1100. Just wondering if there's any good discounts going on or what's the best way to get a discount on an M11x right now.

    Thanks!!

what are the specs of the m11x throwing out a price is kinda pointless. It might be SSD you have or 8gb ram or i7 processor or warranty but i have no clue and can't help you what so ever

For $2074 before tax. This is with a 10% EPP discount even tho my company doesnt qualify. :D

I called the number listed in the first post after hours and got a rep from Inda/China/wherever reading a script off to me who said I did qualify (I think she just wanted to make a sale?!) but just got her to send me an email with the info in it. I used that to configure what I wanted then called during regular hours and got an AWESOME North American rep (anyone wants his contact info, PM me) who got me the system I wanted with the EPP discount even tho he couldnt find my employer in his system. I also got free next day shipping, as the online configurer showed the system shipping later than my original order would have and I'm going on vacation at the end of the month. I think he was able to expedite the build as the new system is showing to deliver before the original would have even shipped.

So I am now one happy camper counting down the days to my delivery!

I bought mine last monday with an eta of 22nd this month from Dell UK. The guy was super helpful and knocked off 600£ from the final price. Ie from 2900 to 2300.
    Following are the specs
    Nebula Red
    840qm
    RGB led
    4gb ram
    Crossfire 5870m hd
    370 blutooth
    6300 wifi
    500 gb hdd

Mind you it's UK Dell. So don't compare the price with US standards as it's expensive here.
Here are the details of the rep (with his permission ofcourse) for any fellow UK buyer.
    Vijay Kumar
Email: [email protected] ( please mention in the email you got his details from this forum as I have already told him so he will understand)
What I do is usually send him a mail with my number and ask him to give a call back. He usually calls in less than 5 mins.
    All the best guys.

I can personally vouch for Vijay, (as oneabove and hubs have posted) for UK Alienware.....

He is the vey best rep I have ever dealt with regarding Dell / Alienware.

This guy goes "the extra mile" to make sure that his customers get the very best deal possible. Trust me, I have dealt with some reps who dont want to do a thing to help out but with Vijay, the man is an absolute star.

Ive spent hours on the phone with him talking over various specifications and each time, he has gone and done his very best to see what the best deal would be on them.

He calls back when he says he will, he is available to get on the phone, he returns emails quickly (ive had some who dont even bother do do either).

All in all, I cant sing his praises highly enough.....if there were a gold medal for Alienware, Vijay would have lots of them LOL

I wont post details about the deal that he has arranged for me but I will say that it was REALLY good....

If you want to deal with him, he will reply to your email request I am sure and his email address is [email protected]

If you do email him, again you should say that you have been referred by me, and state that you got a referal from the notebookforums. Just tell him Steve Jones referred you....I am positive he will do his very best to get you the best deal available at that time.

Vijay, if you read this, THANKS SOO MUCH, REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP....if i ever get round to visiting, you can show me around!!! - I will hold you to that!
