Unfortunately, whenever I asked for a US rep and got one, I was told since I'm in Canada, that I have to go through their services and ended up with an outsourced rep. The guy did tell me that I got $300 off and 5% rebate. (Canadian prices appear to be more than on the US site)

Giving myself the week to decide if I want it now or later. Could I save this offer and show it to the reps later on the month if I choose to purchase it then?

I don't think quotes will last that long, I've made so many quotes in the last 5 days I think 11 in all, and finally claimed one and got it figured out.

LOL, funny thing happened today when I was trying to haggle...

I got a quote, and I tried calling Dell again to see if I could get more of a discount from another representative, and they ended up transferring me to the same exact guy.

Needless to say it was an awkward moment -_-.

Definitely not a bad price, but I was able to get your setup plus 3 year accidental warranty for 2189.49. Are you EPP eligible?

Oh wow, nice price :) and nope, I'm not EPP eligible. I might try calling my rep again to ask if he can shave off another $100.

Edit: Actually, I'm not sure if I'm EPP eligible or not. I currently go to college but I'm not sure how I go about checking if EPP applies for me. And how much more would an EPP discount net me?

I would think a school like that would be eligible. Look at your technology website under student services or something and look around for anything about purchasing new hardware. That's how I found the link from my school.

Or you can call and tell them the college you are in. Often they will ask you for your student ID and give you the discount. A lot of schools qualify but are not listed in the Dell site.

I just called my rep, and he said the $150 discount he's giving me is more than the EPP discount that would be applied. So apparently the two discounts are not stackable.

What was your final configuration and price?

And if it wouldn't be too much trouble, do you mind PMing me your representative's extension number? It seems like my rep won't budge anymore on the price after a good 2 hours on the phone.

First off, this post is amazing.

Because of it, I did get a few hundred off the top when ordering. However due to change in policy, my lack of charisma, poor reasoning, I haven't been able to get the final 'don't return your computer before 21 days for some cash' angle. One women I talked to (from the returns department) tried to charge me a restocking fee because returning it because 'it doesn't suit my needs' is too similar to 'you don't like it'.
Just curious if anyone else had any luck recently with this method of savings or tips too if it did work!

Keep trying till you get a nice rep.

My method worked for me because I was seriously thinking about just waiting on the M14x, so I called with the initial intention of literally canceling.. but when I worked with the guy... he finally gave in, and took my offer of $200 off. lol I think I actually tricked myself..haha

Hands down the best thread ever! :)

I called again today to an EPP sales rep (who turned out to be American), and he ended up offering me a total of $650 valued discount, around $400 more than what the regular sales rep offered me yesterday. Now for the waiting game, but I couldn't be more excited!

The last time I purchased an Inspiron with Dell, I never thought of calling, but this thread definitely proved that it's worth calling. So read the OP you guys!! and use every bit of the advice, because honestly it helps a ton.

My final configuration came out to be $2205.03 (includes tax/expedited shipping):

Best way to get an OptX is patience. Every month or two they go on sale with a 20-30% discount. I got mine for $350 when they were still $500, and free shipping on top of it.

Just gotta be patient for their regular sales.

I'm going to call them and ask to return it. I'm going to see if i can maybe get an extra year of warranty, but that may sound weird considering I'll be returning it because it, "doesn't fit my needs". Even if it doesn't work out $100 would still be nice.

Has anyone tried within the last week to haggle down the price at all, Ive tried with two different people so far and both of them gave me a rate that was only about 100 off. It seems like there told not to go down as much anymore, from the two I talked to they didn't seem to want to actually drop the price themselves but always needed a coupon or something to drop it.

I must have lucked out with my Rep which was my first call to DELL... he was generous enough to give me all kinds of goodies/discounts.

Ask for a US rep, if they say they cant, tell them you will take your money somewhere else.

Try calling the EPP sales department, since I think most if not all of their reps are from the US, who are more likely to give you discounts than foreign reps. Even if you are not a student/employee of an affiliated company, the US sales rep still might be able to take you order.

Alienware Canada offers three different Instant Savings offers on their website so I used that as grounds for haggling the guy as soon as I got him on the line - "Hey, I'd like to make a configuration, but would differ from the specs in the $300 off; can you apply it to what I want? It'll be at the same price range, if not more." He said sure, and I was able to follow up with a 5% student discount and followed the advice in the initial post.

I also mentioned Quebec's high sales tax. He then cut off the shipping and a few more bucks. I saved around $400 before taxes, after building that configuration, and got the ATI card to boot =D

Perhaps those of you ordering outside of Canada can mention on the phone that Canada gets big instant savings on their Alienwares and demand to be treated the same.

That was through the EPP sales department, Ive even tried going through a couple of the reps that other members have gotten good deals from, the guy ZOG Pradox used told me that he could only give me $50 beyond the 2% EPP, I kept badgering him asking if he could go lower, maybe include the tax in with the machine, drop off the shipping charges, and after a good 30 minutes all he gave me was the $50 plus he dropped the shipping which was $39.

Yes you should be able to get another $200 at least off. I called and got transferred to some customer resolution dept by saying I was disatisfied by the price I got as I knew other people who had gotten better prices and gave him a price range and was going to have to cancel. At first they offered $100 and I said no that was not comparable and then rep checked with manager and went to $200 off. Be careful they don't cancel your order though. Good luck!

FYI I have someone at Dell who has been helping me out with ordering laptops for partners for a while now. If you need specific help or you're going to be ordering one of these bad boys, like me, please let me know so I can refer you to him. He is super easy to work with an actually works in the US. Only rule is I'm not going to quote price out of respect for him because he can't necessarily offer the same prices to everyone, but I'll give you ball park.

Could you forward me his contact information? I'm stick of dealing with Alienware Pakistan, and wouldn't mind speaking to someone from North America for a change. I live in Canada, but would order through the USA if I had to.

I think its because the system is so new, maybe after the much anticipated M18X shows its face they will be more lenient with the M17X R3, I'm having the same trouble as all of you with the Dell reps, hopefully they wern't told to stop dropping the price on the machine and only offer small amounts off.

Hello. Relatively new to these forums and I was seeking some advice.

I live in Japan (have for about 3 years) and my laptop, amongst other things, was destroyed in the last big quake (a kitchen cabinet fell off the wall and made it into a pancake).

So, taking note of the advice I've been given by some folks, and after actually seeing (pictures) of the m17x, I've become kin of infatuated; looks beautiful, sounds great.

Now there's just one thing. The phone number (to order a new laptop) sends me to a call center. The kid there, while I can respect that he's doing a Jon, trying to make a little spending money outside of school, he knows less than me, which is not comforting. I won't go in to details, but basically he just read off websites to me.

When I asked him about any deal he might be able to cut me, he said 'maybe he could cut $9 off of shipping.

Now, maybe things have changed a lot since I ordered my last laptop, but when I called last time I felt like I talked to a rather knowledable fellow. An beyond that, he, without prompting, was able to find a number of ways to knock the price down.

What I'm curious about it, does anyone know a nice sales rep to call? Or is there a better number somewhere? This is a big purchase, I don't want to feel uncomfortable with the person I'm dealing with.

Can anyone recommend some better course?

    Thanks much in advance!

Responded to the PM's :) I just shot him an email letting him know you're all coming! Only rule I have is NO HAGGLING, just be real, honest, and say what is the best you can do. When I ordered from him and got my price I literally did no haggling, just talked to him and shot the poop if you know what I mean.

Wow.. very nice price. I got basically the configuration but with 8gb RAM + bluray, and only 2 years of accidental warranty, for ~$100 less. I'd say you got a better deal than me, considering the price of 4 years accidental.

    What's your EDD?

i got this deal after a lot of work from a great salesman. I qualified for the epp, and used the dell prefered account which gave another discount. It was like pulling teeth to get this far, i initially purchased it from another salesman and didnt get that great of a deal but after coming here and talking to several people that recently purchased m17's i decided to go back and try for more of a discount. anyways long story short...cancelled my order, talked to another salesman and got this.

Yeah, I had to pull a lot of strings for my sales rep to finally give me a good discount. I think the first rep I called tried to convince me to apply for a Dell Preferred Account more than he tried to convince me to buying the M17x itself. It was ridiculous.. I couldn't even ask a question without him advertising the Dell Preferred Account to me. I guess they make a decent commission if they get people to apply for it. But yeah, needless to say, I didn't end up buying the laptop from that rep.

The rep I actually purchased from was located in the States and was much less pushy about the Dell Preferred Account. I told him I wasn't interested once, and he got the message. And he still managed to give me a much better discount than the foreign rep I was dealing with earlier.

Just a question though, what's your estimated delivery date?
