You don't have to work at Dell to get it, you can get it through your employer. I'm a programmer for a medical software company that buys a lot of Dell computers. Because of this, Dell offers its employees a discount.

That would allow him the AAFES discount which is even better than EPP!

I see that they are offering a special package with $100 off. Basically 6gb ram, better display, 2x2 WLAN options. Other than the ram, the other options I was planning on.

If anyone has a great rep that they could recommend, please let me know. Not wanting to haggle, just get a nice solid deal especially with 3 year warranty. Would greatly appreciate it.

By the way, EPP member with the DPA.

Heading to bed but will see what the world may present tomorrow. :)

    Thanks greatly!
    Charles.

Just ordered using EPP. Overnight shipping should arrive end of month.

    Subtotal: $1,933.14
    Shipping and Handling: $29.00
    Tax Total: $161.88
    Total Amount: $2,124.02

Original price (without tax or shipping) pre-discount $2563.00 (roughly).

Note that this includes the Intel 3x3 wireless and the internal 60ghz wireless HDMI transmitter. I also purchased (on a separate order) the Visio Wireless HDMI kit which Dell sells for 189.00 which is cheaper than anywhere else at retail by about 10 bucks.

I'll buy more ram myself, cheaper and faster ;D

When I logged right into the Alienware site, there is a banner add that switches between the m18x and a redish one talking about "Rubbing is Racing." When you click on this, it will take you to package deals that have upgrade graphic packages for the m11x, m14x, m17x and the Aurora. Not a lot as I posted for the m14x, but if I wanted those items, it does drop it $100. And the $50 coupon works with it too.

    Hey guys,

Anyone lucky with a rep? I would really appreciate it if you could pm me his/her contact info. I'm interested in buying a m11x R3, but can't afford one if I only get the standard 2% student discount. Thanks so much!

Did you get any other discounts other than the EPP? I asked because I tried spec'ing the same system (except left the processor at stock and went with the 3 year warranty) and my discount was only about $60. Definite difference between $60 and almost $600. Wondering if I am doing something wrong.

Though I am still leaning towards the m14x, keeping my options open. :)

    Thanks.
    Charles.

    I had the EPP discount.

Remember, you need to call and work the Dell inside sales folks in order to see substantial discounts. Ask ask ask, but always be polite and be ready to walk away from the deal. In other words:

    1. Be willing to place your order online first so that when you call to cancel and "reorder" you show commitment and ability to purchase
    2. Call and state you want x system and are looking for the best discounts available and that you've seen specific deep discounts others have received.
    3. State that you wish to cancel the order and order from the rep if their discounts are good enough.
    4. If the rep does not give or have discounts available (they always do, it's all about willingness) then be willing to say no thank you and leave the call politely. Remember when you say "sorry that won't work for me, I'll probably just go ahead and call back and cancel) you are giving the rep time to reconsider the discounts. They want to keep margin so won't give discounts right up front, usually.

You probably know all this but just in case.

    Good luck.

Ordering first and calling to cancel is the first I've seen. Sounds a bit too risky for me if they want to give me a lot of trouble to cancel/without restocking fees...

Good job though and great price!

You will need at least 5 quality posts to have access to the Private Messaging (PM) and signature system.

After you have reached 5 posts you will need to wait for usergroup promotions which runs at 11pm EST every night.

Is it really that hard to contribute to the forum? Go find a couple of threads and help someone out with their issue or question...

What do you guys consider a good deal, now the big discount isn't valid anymore? If you were ordering a $1500 config on the m14x, what would you consider a good deal? What would be a great deal? I can use an EPP, but no military discount.

I would say if you get it for 1300 after taxes that would be an awesome deal! But if you get any kinda of discounts, then that would be good. Theres a 75 dollar off coupon on Alienware laptops right now too.

Anyone got any reps they had a good experience with? Any tips on avoiding restocking fees when I try and cancel my current order?

I've been stalking this thread for about a week now... finally decided to give it a go today.
Called through the EPP line since I'm going to college next year and requested a quote. The rep was certainly nice enough but he said there wasn't really much he could do in the way of discounts save for the EPP discount. That or I'm terribad at haggling. Guess I'll try again some other time.

In any case, hello there everyone! :D

I couldnt get the rep i talked to on the phone to budge. The only discounts ive found were the 2 coupons, one for $75 off alienware orders over $1399, and the coupon for free shipping. Im at $3900 with shipping for the m18x i configured, i could use all the help can get if anyone has a good rep.

It sounds like it's much better to wait for some promotion since the reps would have an easier time applying various codes into their system. (It doesn't sound like it's as easy to just slap on a 20% off coupon since they don't have a code to apply neither)...

A rep that I chatted with told me to wait for a back to school sale in mid-May. When have AW back to school sales been historically, and what kind of discounts can be expected?

I think that's what I'll be doing... I'd love to have a new shiny laptop now but with college still only on the horizon, I still have time to wait.

As for when student discounts start... the Dell EPP page seems to point to student discounts starting later this month (about May 22-ish). Since AW is with Dell, I suppose it should also start around then.

I'd be very interested to know what you can usually get off an alienware system during these sales (as a percentage). The rep I talked to mentioned a 30 day price match. Will they add the sale and refund the difference if you purchase before the sale? Maybe I should cancel and wait a couple weeks.

Following this forum since page 1, I think if you're patient, you should be able to find 20% some way. Without any sales or ANYTHING going on, you can expect to see around 5-10% from a decent rep. With a great sale and promos going on, you can expect to see 20% or so. Highest I've seen is around 30% tops.

I haven't seen too many people post more off than that. This of course, depends on options, overall price, etc...

If you can't wait at all, I think 10% is probably a decent price off at this point.

Hey guys, how realistic is it for me to get a basic M14X: (MSRP $1200) for about $950-1000?

I'm trying this through chat but they don't budge. Even they said to call a sales rep :p

I cant fathom why anyone would expect any kind of 'deal' when chatting with a rep. You wont come away with any 'amazing deals' using the chat feature on the dell site...

Seriously, if you want to haggle, CALL. :)

Uh, Don't you think it's a little silly to think that a chat sales person would give you ANY sort of deal? They're like, the lowest of the low over at Dell. Edit: Got beaten to it by a mod :\

I called today to ask about canceling my order. Told them I had found a better deal elsewhere, they offered to give me 63 dollars or fully refund the system once I send it back to them. Now I got my M11x for around 1,100 USD and that was with ZERO coupons.

They told me to call them as soon as I get the laptop and ask and see if I can get like 150-200 dollars refunded? Or should I just take the 63 bucks and be happy with what I got?

Take the 63 bucks. Why chance it? You call back after receiving and they may not offer you anything but a restocking fee ;)

They said they would wave the restocking fee since I called early. Still think it's worth the trouble?

Hey there, I think. . .i got a terrible deal of the sales rep. The guy said that there was no way to lower the prices on alienware laptops and this is as cheap as it gets, though, I doubt that. I also asked him for a discount for farmers AND school, but said that you can only do one. This is like only 50 bucks off. . Should I just say something like ''oh i found a better deal for $xxxxx amount, buuuut if you can match it, i might buy it from you guys.''
