Talk to more reps. First one I talked to said student discount was 5%. I hung up, tried again, and got 7%. Next one also said 7%, the one after that said 7% and "was allowed to increase it to 8% because he told his supervisor that I was ordering on that day", and next one said 8% flat out.

So yea, just keep trying until you get a good one.

Man online chat either cannot do much or they really do not try to offer this 25% EPP discount. I tried one online rep and her quote price was the same as what I had configured in cart.

I am not sure you can get the 25% off online, I think you need to call Dell EPP here: (800) 695-8133

The deal specifically states that it must be used on a call in to the above EPP number and you must say the code "Hot Summer Savings" in order to get it. You must also be able to verify that you are indeed an EPP member (or can be one, in which case they will sign you up).

You have until this Friday to place the order to get the 25% off.

I just want to confirm that the 25% discount works!

    - I tried to order an m18x using the "Hot Summer Savings" through online chat... he didn't know it existed. He went and checked his manager and they both couldn't find any details on it.

    - I then tried calling (1800) 456-3355 (Business hotline I think) to order an m18x laptop and the guy couldn't do the 25% discount either. He said only "some" companies are eligible.

    - Finally I called (800) 695-8133 (EPP line I think) and talked to an agent and he knew what I was talking about right away. I told him I'm a student at UC Berkeley and also a veteran... and he knocked $700 off my Alienware m18x instantly. He didnt even ask me to verify that I'm really a student.... odd. If you guys are still having problems let me know and I'll send you the rep's info.

Finally ordered my alienwares today. Had no problem getting the 25%, my advice is to take up time with the rep and be friendly before you drop the Hot Summer Saving deal. MY rep gave me 25% and Next day shipping with no problem. Managed to get away with a stock m14x upgraded to i7, Wirless HD and upgraded screen along with an M17X-1080p, 6gb RAM and 2GB AMD 6990M for $2650 after taxes! Couldnt be happier

It's a Dell EPP deal with nonspecific systems criteria. While I didn't ask about the XPS specifically, I did ask about several other systems than Alienware and all were valid. I can only assume that the XPS would also be valid, but all you need to do to find out for sure is call. Good luck :)

Just called and couldn't get the discount, but it's only the first try.

The "list" of those approved for the "Hot Summer Savings" seems to be a fabrication, since the info about what is or isn't on it isn't consistent. Either that or some reps are just lying and pretending to "check" the list but don't want to give that discount and say you aren't eligible.

I'm curious about the 26.146% too...maybe that was from an extra $50 off coupon added?

I just called as well, and the rep said Verizon Business does not qualify for the promotion. He also stated that the discount with verizon was the same for student and military as I am both. The discount was 2%, same as online.

He was very friendly and when I inquired about the promotion he told me that Verizon didn't qualify. After hearing that, I mentioned that the promotion was the only reason I was looking at buying right now, so he asked if it would be ok if he took a couple minutes to talk to his manager. He did, and said he didn't know how, but the discount went through. I got a m17x3 upgraded with 6990, intel wireless, 1920x1080 lcd and 2 year advanced plan for 1750ish out the door. That's over $300 cheaper then the same system from Dell Home. Estimated ship of 8/10. I will have to call back later and see if I can get the NBD shipping.

I ordered with a 20% off coupon, and my m17x is due to arrive tomorrow. Any chance you think I could call after I could get it, mention this Hot Summer Savings, and have them take another 5% off? It's on my DPA so it shouldn't be a problem I wouldn't think.

If your school/employer is on "the list" and your rep is in a good mood, they might revise your total with the discount, but seeking additional discounts after you've made the purchase is pretty backwards, and a rep doesn't have much incentive to do so unless they are extremely customer service oriented and really, really want you to be happy with the price you paid for the laptop.

You might still bring it up, maybe they'll offer you something like a free Orion backpack or a gift card towards a future purchase instead. Doesn't hurt to ask, just be nice about it and you might get something good.

If you use your Dell DPA account to purchise a system via EPP, does the 3-4% discount applies. I've seen the option on the Home site but not on the EPP [IMG]

I figured 'what the heck?' and ordered an m11x (i7 2617/8gb/750gb HD/Killer N 1103+Bluetooth/2yrs Advanced Warranty) on the same 25% off deal to go with my m17x that should be shipping today.

Didn't get to talk to my original rep, but he got the credit for the deal (must be nice) and I got NBD again just because I already got it on the first order. I should be calling my rep today and tomorrow to see if he can slip in that Alienware backpack (I need something to put them both in of course...) for free. Will let you know if it flies or not.

From what I can tell, the people not getting the deal are either:
    A. Not able to qualify as EPP members, and therefore not able to use it, or
    B. Not calling the right number, or
    C. Too shy/unsure if they qualify or not and come across that way on the phone

If you fall into category A, then I'm sorry, there isn't anything you can do (other than lying and hoping they don't catch it). You can't get the deal.

If you fall into category B, then CALL THE RIGHT NUMBER! Here it is again for the millionth time - (800)695-8133
You don't need to ask for anyone specific, every person I've talked to can give the deal (if you can qualify for it).

But if you fall into category C, then you need to be more assertive. You need to assume that you qualify and that they know what you are talking about, even if they don't. The reps won't dig into the matter for you if they think you are just throwin crap on the wall hoping it sticks. They deal with people doing that all day long and will kindly shuffle you out the door. They need to know you know what the deal is, that you know you qualify, and that you know that they are going to give it to you. Each call in I had to start over with a new person, but they all were courteous, friendly and professional, doing their due dilligence in figuring out what I was talking about, then giving me the deal I was entitled to. I can't imagine you not being able to get exactly the same treatment if you followed the same process.

Try again, but keeping what I said in mind and being the assertive you ;). You only have until tomorrow for the deal, so best to hurry.

    Hope this helps :)

It's not that simple. Not all EPP members qualify. Only a small list of companies/organizations are getting this discount. I have tried twice. The reps have verified my EPP status but shot down the discount as my company is NOT on the list of those eligible for the discount. Last one even spoke to a manager to verify and unless your company is on the list you don't get it. I was going to get about 32% off due to all of the trouble I have been through over my current system as alienware was giving me an additional discount on top of the 25%. Twice I was on a three way conference call with an alienware rep and an EPP rep and it was a brick wall both times. Your company is not on the list you don't get the discount.

I just ordered my m17x. My rep said this exact thing, that my company was not eligible. However, without much prodding he offered to give me the same 25% discount + free shipping if I opened a Dell Preferred account and put the laptop on that. Since I'm paying it off immediately it didn't matter to me. You might offer this if you get resistance, since it worked for me on the first try. Dell's all about getting as many people signed up for those lines of credit as they can, since I'm sure some percentage of them don't pay in time and Dell makes a fortune off the 24%+ interest rates. Anyways, another angle to try. Good luck!

Already had a DPA account for years. I spent almost an hour with the last one and he said his hands were tied. If the company isn't on the list then all he can give is the standard EPP discount. Said the best he could do would be $100 off and he would need manager approval for that. The 25% was going to be over $700 off.

It's such BS what all the reps are telling everyone. I called bought an m14x and m17x and received 25% for both as a student. My buddy called the same extension but a different rep answered because mine was off until this monday. He gave him the same school epp and the guy told him it's not on the "list." It's really unfair how this all works, Im glad I received the discount but annoyed that everyone is using the "list" as an excuse.

Yeah, it seems like many reps have been receiving instructions not to give the 25% off deal out to anyone anymore, probably due to the volume of people using it. They are likely using the "list" as a cover; I doubt there is any list. My rep was nice enough to immediately offer to find another way to get me the discount without breaking his rules, and even patiently helped me apply 4 gift cards to my order.

If anyone would like his info, I'd be happy to PM it on request. For my m17x order at least, he seemed fine with giving me the discount if I used a Dell Preferred Account. I imagine he'd do the same thing for someone with an existing DPA.

Here is the difference between what you said and what I said...

You said "Can you check if I qualify?"

I said "My company has this deal with you guys right now..."

Seems like a small detail, but its all the difference in the world. You have to assume you are qualified from the getgo and make them believe you.

And for clarification, the reps you talk to don't actually have a "list." They are just pushing back to see if you cave, and you have.

If you actually were getting this deal from work, then your work would have sent you something to indicate it as such before you called in, and then you would KNOW you qualified, and wouldn't take "No!" for an answer.

I don't know how much they mark down about your failed calls on your account, but opportunities may have been lost because it wasn't done right the first time.

Don't worry, this isn't the first and it won't be the last time this kind of deal pops up :)

I actually said about what you said, that my company's EPP has that deal. He asked me if I had a DPA, I said no, and then he went to check "the list". He came back and said my company wasn't eligible, but he could backdoor the same discounts in manually if I signed up fro a DPA.

The "you" was actually my2cents but in reality, it was meant to be a more general "you."

Glad you got the deal. Those DPAs have to be where the reps get their most commissions because they really push them hard. My rep actually told me as much after I told him I wanted to put the purchase on my card instead, so we put $100 on the DPA with the rest on my card and apparently that was enough for him to make the commission.

Yeah I know it was meant for him but I thought I'd clarify my experience. :)

They are definietly pushing the DPA's. I actually used $900 worth of gift cards so my DPA balance is only $1100, but he had no problem with that. I think they just want people to sign up for them and put at least SOME balance on them, on the off chance that Dell will get to collect interest on it. But hey, that works just fine for me if it means I get the discount. ;)

Actually what I told him was, "I qualify for this discount. Here is the word for word listing for the discount as I pulled down from the company's Human Resources website."

He still checked and shot it down.

I just got disconnected from a rep.. didnt get his extension or email unfortunately. He was in Round Rock, TX (Dell HQ) which is 5 mins from my house and he went to the same University i'm currently going to. i was really gonna get the hook ups lol (25% off, 3% off for signing for a DPA, free NBD, $100 off a printer). He put me on hold to check what was goin on with my DPA (while he finished up my quote) and my call dropped  dump iPhone..

now i've got another lady helping me out. she doesn't seem as happy lol

edit: no lappy for me on this deal i guess. I had applied earlier for DPA and got approved, but i didn't use it and they couldn't find it in the system. They had me apply again and I got denied. She said a lot of times the DPA system gives back false decisions (ie: get approved but it wont actually let you purchase, or get denied but you can call back after you get your letter and have them approve you).. guess it's the waiting game for me. Unless i can manage like 35% off lol

Looks like it's a lot easier to get a good deal in US than UK. -_-

Ok guys, need some advice/input. About 3 days ago I ordered two laptops, m14x and m17x, I opened a dpa so I could have NDS and get my 25% discount. I forgot to try and get the xbox deal added on since Im a student so today I called and talk with this guy who told me he couldnt add it on because he would need to cancel the whole order. I dont believe this is the truth, my question is, who should I call and ask? What should I say? (possibly use my dpa as a reason to give me something) and is this guy full of it?

Ultimately I want a free backpack over anything else. Has anyone had success adding something like that to their order after placing it?

If you've already placed the order, you can't get additional discounts added on. You would need to place new orders to have discounts applied. Some people do this, and send the initial order back, but this can tie up the money on them in the meantime as they do charge once it's shipped.

If you just want a free backpack you might be better off asking for that in lieu of the 25% off deal.

The promo ends today and with it winding down, the success rate seems to be plummeting as well. If you can get 25% off or more with a DPA added in there, that's not bad either, especially if you're just going to pay it off immediately.

Another way to save money is WATCH the online websites, sometimes they print big mistakes. I caught one of them, on the Canadian website they offered free 580SLI and 750GB Raid upgrades, (was supposed to be the 460 series cards) then I called my rep and got a quote based on my online cart and ordered it. I saved over 52% on my M18x, total luck. AND Dell actually honored my order and shipped it too. :)

Hey everyone I am currently awaiting an m14x which I ordered a few days ago, and wanna give a big shout out to nactownag. He's a member of this forum and posted earlier in this thread, as well as an employee at Dell. Not only did he give me a GREAT deal...all the bells and whistles as well as 2 year advanced warranty, accidental damage, more ram than I need.... but he was very helpful as I have been communicating through email for a few weeks him and always responded very promptly to every question I had and was overall a great person to work with! I will be hitting him up next time I ever need to order anything from Dell...and currently my friend is about to order another m14x from him. Anyways, just thought I'd let you all know, especially those of you looking for good deals on new hardware, and give him the +rep he deserves! You can contact him at his username @gmail.com

    Once again, thanks man!!
