Btw, for anyone who may have recently ordered a laptop with the 6970 card, Dell is now out of them. I was told I had to cancel my order and re-order with the AMD 6990. I told them this was not acceptable because it would increase my price. They gave me a free upgrade to the 6990m for my trouble. Not a bad deal (And I had already gotten a low price from Jason). Just a heads up!

I just ordered one with the older i7 2820. I don't think the difference is worth it to cancel my order. I did however call and complain about it to dell. I told them they should have put a warning or something saying that new units would come in soon. I made them feel like I was unsatisfied and they gave me NBD shipping for free. hah.

Then I thought about it and said why not get a quote from jasons friend and see what kind of price she gives me. I sent her an email. If the price is the same or less than jasons I may just cancel my order to get it.

All in all, I don't feel like it's going to be worth it in the end. I doubt I'll notice a difference unless I'm doing some really really heavy photoshopping. But that's just me...

EDIT: Plus I figured if my laptop ever needs to get repaired or replaced I could always ask for the new processor for my inconvenience.

ditch the 8GB ram and go for stock 4GB. You can use that 200 bucks to boost your warranty or buy aftermarket ram for way cheaper.

Same with the hard drive...I'd use that money to upgrade the graphics card as it is somewhat difficult to upgrade the graphics of m17x using aftermarket chips.

well I would recommend either the 6990M or the 580M. The 580M is much more expensive though and I wouldn't get it unless I were going for the 3D screen. The benchmarks on the 580M are slightly higher...but not north the extra 300 or so bucks. The 6990M is the best bang for the buck.

The 3D screen is only worth getting if you wish to use 3D...if that makes sense. I've used a 3D screen before and It looks nice. But over time I would get a headache. That's just my preference though.

The 120hz screen and the 60hz screen have no visual differences in quality of color from what I know (based on what people say on this forum).

I did about 700 better than with no deal and about 500 better than the online EPP/EEP/military deal. I think a big part of that is the reps can discount the heck out of warranties. (3 year with accidental damage, 2760qm, 6990, 750GB, 1080p, killer wireless, the rest pretty standard (will do SSD and ram myself later))

Also: I think I'm up to date on PMs lol

Yea, mine was about 400 off EPP, but I had a more base config, so that seems about right. It's the best deal you can get for an alienware at the moment.

I'm in the same boat. But it doesn't matter anymore...I was hoping she'd quote me quickly so I could compare prices and possibly cancel my current order for the newer line of processors...She emailed me back the same day I emailed her asking if I wanted a personalized plate when I clearly had it stated that I did in the original email...meh.

    I dunno.

I suspect she got hit pretty hard with quote requests... She responded to me the same day... and it was at like 8 at night.

But I was the first to have the contact info, and I've sent it on to at least 20 people by now.

but 4 days seems like a lot... I know she doesn't work fridays or sundays though.

I was in the same situation. I got both quotes for the 6990M Xfire and GTX 580M SLI. But after researching both cards specifications and watching some reviews as well as the performance results. I realize that the 6990 still has some potential to increase its performance. Eventually, I went for the 6990M.

But all I wanna say here is, no matter what you pick. Amberly won't let you down :D. Thanks Jason, Amberly and everybody ^^

So I read a few pages back that the more upgrades you order the greater the discount... If I plan on ordering a close to stock m17x r3 with screen and 6990 upgrades, is it still worth to call? Or should I wait for a coupon? (does Dell still do these?) Been out of the PC scene for a while... last laptop I ordered was a Dell XPS Gen 2 and used a 20% off coupon about 5 years ago..

I'd be using my Dell Preferred Account to pay if that makes a difference...

Thanks man!!! i tried to upgrade the warranty but it fell outside my budget....but what i could always do is extend the warranty in 2 years so i dont eat the cost right now.... and i looked into SDD and they just cost way to much $$$ right now...hopefully in a couple years i can upgrade to a SDD...and im going to see how much RAM BF3 / Diablo 3 uses before i drop another $100 to upgrade to 8gb ram....but overall i am satisfied with my purchase!!!
