That's good to hear. I have a m17x quote with the 680m and thus far just the epp discount. I was working with Adam who is on vacation and the rep told me she couldn't do anything else for me and to talk to him on Monday when he returns.

I'm in the same boat as you =(. Are you also working with Adam's team mate? She gave me the epp discount also.

That's all they will give through NBR right now. Adam gave me the exact same quote as what I got online with my student discount. Not even a dollar off. I was a little shocked considering other people are getting over $100 off web pricing if they call in directly.

Actually it was $2220. Corrected that in my original reply but just thought to mention it. I got about $40 taken off for the EPP stuff.

The EPP and the $100 discount I got. I also got a $200 gift card coming eventually (they said 10 to 20 days).

hello all, lurking for a while but just registered other day. This is a very informative thread and thanks for all who have contributed. I just tried my first call and the rep WOULD NOT BUDGE! I configured a base M17x with the killer wireless, bluray drive, and 1080p screen and he quoted me @ $1786. Said that is the best he can do, alienware is in a different league as origin and sager, blah blah blah. I feel as if I could do better, but not sure what direction to take it.

Does my config sound like a good deal? Should I call back and try and get another rep and go for warranties, laptop bag , etc...

    thanks again folks!

I am planning on buying my first AW in a week or so and was going to only order it online, I'm glad I found this forum. This is excellent.
One question though, how come some people are getting 5-10% discount while others are getting 20-25%!! That's a huge jump specially for people like me where 20% discount would amount to over $700!! And how are you guys getting the $200 gift card? Are you asking for it or are they just giving it to you as part of the deal?
    Thanks.

Wondering the same thing as Fuzzi concerning the % off. As far as the $200 egift card just tell them you are a student and they "should" give you the option for an xbox or the gift card.

From what I've read so far is that you need to keep calling until u get someone who is willing to give u a good deal. Some won't budge but eventually u get someone who will. Keep trying

Finally got a hold of a good rep. Got an M17x with the 3710, blue ray drive, killer wireless, and 1080p screen with 5% gift card and $200 gift card (just under $300 total gc) out the door for $1750. I think I did ok. Debated on upgrading to the 7970 but ultra settings on games is not important as long as D3 runs smooth with decent settings.

    Greetings everyone,

I made the 5 posts to be able to send PMs to an AW rep but for some reason the PM feature is deactivated for me, anyway.

I want to buy a new top end Gaming laptop that will last for around 3-4 years, I am not a resident of the US however my cousin lives there and I will be using his shipping address so he can resend me the laptop later on.

The price I am getting quoted online for an M18x R2 with the following spec is 2950 USD:

    CPU i7-3820QM
RAM 6GB (will upgrade to 16GB @ 1866 through newegg)
HDD 750GB (Will upgrade to Intel 520 240GB SSD through newegg)
    Dual HD 7970M - CrossFireX
Intel Wireless-N 2230 (Will upgrade through newegg to Killer 1103)
Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

I tried calling but the representative demands a US phone number to continue with the call otherwise she apologizes and refers me to the regional dealer.

I tried searching online for coupons or using online chat for a deal but I couldn't find any deals, nor there has been any deals on dell website on the M18x for the last month or so, however I heard the best way to get a good deal is through the phone.

Now I know there are representatives on the website, Can I get a better deal through them ? Is there a walk around to call Alienware representative from here (Oman) and have them continue with the call using my cousin shipping address and my International Credit Card or even money transfer ?

I am reading that people are getting up to 300-500 USD off their systems, this would work perfect for me as my budget is around 2500 USD but I can stretch my self abit over that.

Any advise is highly appreciated, I would also love if I could get hold of one of Alienware representatives here so he can guide me to the best way to close this deal.

    Cheers.

The PM ability is updated once a day, sometime in the evening US time I heard, so you should be able to use it by this time tomorrow.

Alienware representatives are available on this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/669327-alienware-sales-assistance-thread-redux.html

As for getting a deal, it seems like that's up to luck of the draw right now. If you can keep trying until you get a hold of a good rep on the phone, people have said they've gotten good deals. Unfortunately the reps on the Alienware thread are only offering the 2% EPP discount/$200 gift card (for those who qualify) right now, nothing extra beyond that.

I'd like to have a M14x for myself, not much customization except for a bluray slot drive. Can someone send me a rep which you used and found to be very helpful? Thanks a million!

EDIT: How'd I make use of the pm function? I don't see it.

I have been trying to get the best deal I can on an Alienware for a while now, I know HP is offering 350 off of their laptops, and I was trying to get 33% off since I heard HP was doing that as well, but when I called I wasnt met with very much acceptance. I am Looking at an $2000 alienware m18x. What is the absolute cheapest I should get this for?

If you are signed up for the e-mail, they sent out 2 exclusive coupons out. One of the coupons is for $50 off and the other is for $100 off any alienware or xps machine. It expires on 8/30 at 6:00am. I have been waiting for Adam the rep that Rev referred to me but he has not e-mailed me back. I went ahead and decided to try the chat and call in approach. FYI Chat is pointless since the guy could not apply my exclusive coupon. When I called in to Scott he was able to apply it just fine. Scott gave me my epp discount, $200 e gift, dell advantage gift card, 100 off with my exclusive coupon and 50 bucks off a 2 year warranty.

Pm me if anyone wants his info. He will be more then happy to help you guys out also!

I was reading an article on dell computers, that suggested you should get a warrenty as long as you intend on using the computer, is this advised?

Well it depends on your luck and how you take care of your computer. Personally, the way I do my warranties is if my computer purchase is under 1500 I usually just get the basic 1 year and use like a AMEX card to get a free 1 year extended warranty. For my purchase with my alienware which is over 2k I decided to get a 2 year warranty since that is something I plan to have for atleast 2 or 3 years and it will have in home service for parts replacement rather then shipping it to the depot.

Warranty is really user preference if you want to have peace of mind and if you have the extra $$ to shell out.

Nope, that is the basic for AlienWare. Advanced includes like accidental insurance just incase you drop your computer, spill a drink or drop your laptop in a jacuzzi.

I was just about to press the "Pay button", when the Sales Representative shocked me with the demoralizing news that I would have to pay "10 percent New York tax"....Is there any way around this considering I have no relatives in the U.S and I am buying internationally through a shipping company that has only one office in NY? I tried to seek solace in the thread provided : http://forum.notebookreview.com/member.php?u=218081 but it was in vain. Please help me solve this blood boiling dilemma

    Daryl,

Does that price include the 10% off promotion from PAX? If you upgrade your warranty a good rep can get you like $50 bucks off. You can also try to see if one of they have any money off coupons laying around.

Hey, that's after 10% off, with $50 coupon. And student $200 gift card.
I can get the next business day shipping too.

What else am I missing? Where can I find coupons? I called up the sales rep and he says that's the best he can do

    I wanted to get the 2GB 650m but it'll be $100 more.

    What'd you guys think?

You won't see much of a big performance boost with a 2gb 650M. 1gb is more then enough. 2gb would only be useful if you plan to dual monitoring your machine. That price would be the best they can do right now with there current promotions. If you want to get a 2 or 3 year warranty, they can give you 50 bucks off. Other then that you won't to get a better deal for your machine right now.

I can attest to the current lackluster state of Alienware deals right now. The best my rep could do on a $2170 system was $100 off coupon (which he told me could not be combined with any other coupons I had, the $50 off on the website at the time, and $100 off from the dell.com mailing list). At least I got the $200 giftcard too.

Ah well, the ordering part is over now. Now my "favorite" part begins... omg, the waiting!

I thought you said you could not combine any other coupon with the 100 dollar coupon, yet you say you also added the 50 dollar from the website and 100 dollar from the mailing list...How is that possible to combine 3 when only one can work? and do you have any other unused coupons you could share?

I tried to have him combine the coupons, but it didn't work. The rep said only 1 could be added, so what I got was the $100 off.

One of the coupons was from the Dell website ( Dell Coupons - Official Dell Coupon Codes & Free Shipping Promos | Dell), and the other was from the Dell mailing list (sign up on dell.com). I believe the $50 off coupon should still be valid: Save an extra $50 off Alienware laptop purchases $1499 or greater: BHW1L0MX0D?MCX

By $200 savings, you mean the giftcard? That seems pretty par for the course here. I think, you should be able to get at least another $50-100 off, depending on how much of a system you are getting (the more options you go for, the more chance to get additional discounts sometimes). But that all seems to depend on the luck of the draw, the rep you talk to, and the phase of the moon. *sigh* So I'd say it's worth trying.

Well I'm trying to get the m17x i don't think its a gift card... it's deducted in the checkout cart.a few weeks ago the dell reps wanted to deduct 100$ and give me a gift card... which I didn't go for and I was wondering if this was well the typical savings people get out of the Dell reps. The system totals about 2400$(680m) w/o the discounts.

A big word of thanks to NBR and to all those that have participated in this thread. The advice here and in the M14x R2 Owners Lounge thread helped me prioritize my system upgrades and provided some insight that I later used to negotiate a decent discount plus some promo gift cards.

My M14x R2 should deliver tomorrow, about a week ahead of the estimate.

Its a base model with only an LCD upgrade that I got for 1050+tax. That was $125 off of retail. Plus, a $200 gift card and second day shipping.

I think I also get a 5% gift card simply for signing up with Dell Advantage. = $55

    I almost feel guilty.

Question, when negotiating price discounts, the free xbox is separate from that right? You are eligible for that promotion regardless of how much they discount the system right?

The Xbox is only for students so other discounts are handled separately but depending on if it's a coupon or actual discount from AW then they can tell you if it's combinable or not. The last time I checked the "199 xbox" is subtracted from the price of the machine. So in a way it is almost like you are still paying for the Xbox lol.

I guess what I am saying is, if I call up dell, with a specific machine in mine, tell them i want a specific percentage off, no matter what that is, is the xbox a separate offer from dell? Does dell actually pay anything for the xbox or is that on microsoft? I was talking to a rep and he told me that with the offer i wanted the xbox couldnt be part of the deal, its either or.
