After a little casual conversation the rep asked me, "So what will it take to earn your business today?" I gave him my minimum hardware requirements and he came back with a price which was at a $125 discount, AND added a $200 coupon. I'm a registered student, but I already have an xbox so I didnt need another.
I thought that was pretty fair so I didnt try to see if the guy would go lower.
-
to me 125 discount is basically an insult, an a system as expensive as these are.
-
I just checked the AW website and it shows they have a Go Big and Save Big promotion for $200 off the m17x ,m18x and aurora. For the M17x it looks like they removed the lower end ram and memory options for the promo. So it defaults to 16gb ram and 750 gb hd +32 gb msata cache. The base set up used to be 6 gb ram and 500 gb HD. Interesting marketing tactic by bumping up the specs and throwing the promo to draw people in. So it really is preference about which is a better deal for you guys looking for a sweet spot for discounts. There have been some great deals going around for SSD drives lately so I plan to upgrade mine. 120gb SSD is around like 70 bucks lately. Ram prices are meh(depends on how much you need). So the price difference for these machines base price is 367.96. So I can get much better ram and HD space in my laptop for a better price then this current promo and it would still be cheaper then what they currently offer. Just my two cents for the people looking at AW deals right now.
With this promotion I get the below specs for $2,569.00 (before tax) (this doesn't have the 2 year basisc warranty)
3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.3GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (4DIMMS)
750GB 7,200 RPM + 32GB mSATA Caching SSD
2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M
17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming & Video and Bluetooth 4.0
When I placed my order 2 weeks ago I got the below for $2201.04(before tax) after tax was $2,361.88 (this includes a a 2 basic year warranty)
3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.3GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
6GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (4DIMMS)
500GB 7,200 RPM
2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M
17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming & Video and Bluetooth 4.0 -
Since it was min spec and coming in at $65 over what a duplicate spec system was going for on the Outlet I think I did just fine. (a base model with a HD+ screen for $1049)
Oh yeah. I paid for it with gift cards I bought for myself as well when they were running a, buy a $300 card get a $50 promo.
Now I just need to figure out what to spend $455 worth of promo gift cards on.
I think I near-maxed every legit offering there was to be had. One thing I won't do is BS Dell about wanting to return it just for a final customer sat discount...a man's integrity should be worth more than $100. -
Wow, if 125 is an insult, the last two reps I talked to just threw feces at me like wild chimps
They wouldn't budge from the website price. -
Does dell match competitor offers?
-
I pointed out xotic has the same laptop I wanted for 200$ less, and they said exactly that, they don't price match.
-
How is that possible? What kind of company doesnt price match? These are the most expensive computers in the market, which means they have the most wiggle room.
-
Dunno, but considering the only reason I was going with alienware was because of the free xbox, it makes no sense anymore.
I can buy sager or msi, save 400-600$, buy an xbox, and still have cash in my pocket. That's at the price they quoted me.
But, like I said in the other thread, I haven't been in contact with the reps from this forum for almost 6 days now. So.... yea. -
they arnt helping you out?
-
I've found AW and Dell overall for that matter to just be frustrating to deal with in regards to both ordering and their customer service.i tried forever to get a decent discount (more $100), but was never successful. It was far easier to just order an equally spec'd Clevo rebrand for ~400+ less.......hell that's the price of a 680m upgrade + sdd or cash in the bank if u prefer
Just my 2cents though
-
Nope. All they did was push me onto someone else that is either ignoring me, or avoiding me. At least that's how it feels.
Yea, I'm getting that vibe as well, but If I could have gotten a free xbox with a decent deal, I would of went to alienware.
I mean, I wasn't asking for 33%*which hp is offering* or 30%*which lenovo is offering*...
Sigh, ohwell.
I tried, they obviously didn't want my business. -
Man these reps I've been talking to are shysters, I flat out asked them what the ford discount was and they said 2 percent. Tried to act like the 50 dollars they were giving me in addition to the 200 off was some sort of manager override, which it wasnt, because I found a code on the inet that got the same amount off. Makes me wanna go over there and smack somebody.
-
I completely understand somethin4nothin. I spoke with a rep, and he mentioned that they had no deals going on right now, and quoted me a price that was around 20 dollars more than what the student price online gave me for the same exact specs. I mentioned I was a student, and while the $200 gift card and 5% gift card are nice, I would be using the $200 on parts to put into my computer anyways, so why not just give me the upgrade I would want and disregard the $200, or include it and let me keep the $200 as an incentive.
I had also mentioned that there was a 10% coupon I received in my email about a week or so ago that I would like to use with it to receive a better quote, but when the rep finally got around to responding to me, the 48 hr coupon was expired, and he mentioned they had no promotional deals going on and said I could wait to see if any deals came around in the next few weeks. This rep was definitely not flexible in price (he was recommended from this forum), and while I am still waiting on some funds to clear up, I would like to know that I can at least receive some sort of discount when ordering with a rep.
Not sure what to do at this point. For the hardware I would like, the price is a little bit too high. A discount could fix that, if a rep can help me with that once I'm ready to order. We'll see I guess... -
It is if you are also stacking it on an EPP discount which they did for me. It doesn't matter if you found a coupon for it. Coupons don't normally stack on EPP discounts at all and require an override to happen regardless of amount.

Starts on 9/11 and ends on 9/25 (DEAL IS NOT LIVE UNTIL 9/11)
Dell - Buy a $400 eGift Card, Get a $75 Promo eGift Card - Slickdeals.net
I just posted this on SlickDeals. Please note that this deal Starts on 9/11 and ends on 9/25(Really got to emphasize this date since someone might try to buy one now). Some of you guys looking for a deal might want to buy a $400 eGift Card since then it will give you a $75 promo gift card. When you are paying by phone they can use up to 3 payment methods. So you can use the $400 eGift Card + the $75 promo eGift Card and then you your credit card to pay off the rest
1 - Dell allows three total forms of payment for an order (ie. promo card, promo card, paid card are three forms of payment)
2 - Non-promotional gift cards, aka paid cards, can be consolidated ($400+$400+$400 = 1x $1200card)
3 - Promotional cards cannot be consolidated ($50x3 = 3 separate cards) but they can be stacked (see Example 2 below)
4 - If you have a balance, your credit card counts as form of payment
5 - You can use multiple gift cards by calling in (the website limits you to one)
6 - The cards can be used at Dell Home, Dell Small Business, and Dell Outlet but not Dell Financial Services
Example 1:
Item's price ~$1325
Buy 3x $400 paid cards, get 3x $75 promo cards
The 3x $400 paid card can be consolidated into one $1200 paid card
Total Payment:
$1200 paid card
$75 promo card
$50 left over for credit card (plus tax and ship or whatnot)
*Can only use one promo card here because the residual balance will be more than the other promo card can cover and the credit card must be used to cover the rest.
Example 2:
Item's price ~$800
Buy 2x $400 paid cards, get 2x $75 promo cards
The 2x $400 paid cards can be consolidated into one $800 paid card
Total Payment:
$75 promo card
$75 promo card
$650 (plus tax and ship or whatnot) on consolidated paid card. Have $150 balance (less tax and ship) on paid card.
*Can use both promo cards here because the residual balance is a credit
Starts on 9/11 and ends on 9/25 (warning the people who don't like to read the details) -
Does the $250 discount they have going on now stack on an EPP discount?
-
Interesting, the xbox deal will be over with by then though
-
Instant discounts on the site will stack fine as long as they are available on the EPP version of the site. However coupons will not on the website and the agents on the phone are bound by the same restrictions. Depending on the normal eligibility status on the discount on the website they might need to get a manager override to make them stack.
-
Well if you can wait like a month or two for them to send out the 200 promo giftcard + the 5% promo gift card then can't you use that to just buy the Xbox 360 from there website?
-
I am trying to figure this out, If I have my $2500 computer. Id need to buy 6, 400 cards equating to $2400, use one of my $75 promos and a credit card to finish it off. This would leave me with 5 - $75 gift cards. However, if I were to buy the xbox Id only be able to use 3 of them right?
-
Yea pretty much. Just refer to the pm response I gave you. Try that method first.
-
what is the difference between m18x r2 and r3?
-
The problem is, computer sales slumped 20% so far this year. Dell just took a huge quarterly loss, and is in the process of laying off a lot of employees.
You would think a loss on quarterly profits would mean they would bend over backwards for my business, but they're acting completely the opposite.
It's been 7 days since initial contact, and last contact with the reps from this forum.
-
Makes sense, because they arnt even competitive.
-
I'm not fussed enough to insult any of them, but I am a bit disappointed that, even on here, I'm not getting replies about it.
I've pmed Rev four days ago about losing contact with the "team" and he never pmed me back. -
Might have made some headway today, will report back later
-
Appreciate the update!
-

Quick question : is there a way to order an alienware from the US dell web site into Canada? I would want a m18x but there's a 400$ diff between the US and Canada.
-
lol I ordered this a couple of weeks ago. Probably like 2 or 3 pages back =P.
-
Hi everyone, I may buy an Alienware soon, but I'd like to know how much I can negotiate with the AW sales reps. If I were to order online I could get a $259 discount on $3,103 M18x R2 set-up which brings it down to about $2,844 + a 5% cash back gift card and a $200 gift card. How much lower do you think the sales reps would be willing to negotiate? I understand they have to eat as well.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. If I decide to buy the M18x R2 I will post all of the details here. -
I wouldn't settle for anything less than 15% off of the total price. These systems are too expensive and they are making out like bandits. It takes dedication and persistence to get a fair price on these systems. Sadly
-
GL with that. When I mentioned 15%, they laughed at me *literally*, but when I mentioned that hp has 33% off and lenovo has 30% off, they got very quiet.
-
Hello everyone,
I'm also a Canadian customer looking at buying an m18x.
Pricing out my system came to 4811 and change. The rep wouldn't budge on anything other than the promotional $60 instant savings off the website... Basically 1% savings, when compared to the 10-15% a lot of people are getting, this doesnt seem right. The guy pretty much told me the more money I spend, the smaller the discount, haha. Does anyone have any advice? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks -
I mentioned the same thing, they will go on and on about how these are customizable blah blah blah, the led lights, its all bs. I understand I am going to pay a bit more, but all I wanted was for them to match the discount, and they couldnt even touch that.
I finally made headway once I talked directly to a manager, but still not 30%. Anyone wanting to buy one of these computers, I wouldnt waste my time talking to a representative, I'd email a manager directly. They are the only ones who can do ANYTHING in the way of discounts. -
Do they add a % off discount after applying the promotional cash discounts? Or are the promos included in the % off? How much did the manager help you out with? Any answers would be greatly appreciate! -
I used an EPP which they didnt even want to give me. I'll post specifics once I have my laptop shipped, dont want to jynx it lol
-
Lol right on buddy
-
I got a quote for an M18x with the 680m sli, killer network card, blu-ray player, everything else stock with 4 year advanced warranty for $3495 after tax. Should I take it or try again?
-
Can an AW sales rep message me please? Thank you
-
I wouldnt, I got more than that off my base system -
What did you end up paying if you dont mind my asking?
-
$200 off promo on select Alienware systems: Alienware Deals
I know it says "select" systems, but the same promo appears on the regular build configurator tool too.
------
Edit: According to Alienware Laptops you get $100 off all M14x, $200 off any M17x over $1999, and $200 off all M18x -
I tried mfractal's thread but I could not find the assistance I required. I am trying to buy an alienware internationally without a US-based credit card and without a US based billing address and that is why the payment is being canceled. Is there anyway for international non US- citizens to buy from Alienware US? Note: My country is not included in the Alienware website
