Catagory at Dell official website makes sales with different discount according to configurations. I am sure you can get 10% off at least on your high price even if you choose the highest priced specs directly from Dell online order, plus you can get an extra $100 savings with the new ecoupon.
But do not expect getting good deal from their rep at Chat Online in my frustrating experience. :Q

I'm looking at getting the 4 year warranty with 4 year accidental on the M17x R4; I'm guessing that Dell's profit margin on extended warranties is pretty high so this is where they can give the biggest discounts. Is this a correct assumption?

YOU don;t need a warranty unless you truly believe you will do something stupid....and do it. LOL

I have purchases nothing but refurbs and never had an issue inside the warranty period..(or out side). All are still running., Saved over $2000 not buying them. MOre than enough to handle any repairs or replacements. Now with the Precision a three warranty is standard. .They STILL offer more! I don;t even use the same Notebook for more than two years before giving it away or putting somewhere else in the house to use as a convenient Internet access device

OK, so I PMed the Dell rep that was supposed to be helping people out with quotes over in the Alienware Sales Assistance thread, told her I needed to order rather quickly, sent her the personal contact info requested, was told someone would contact me very soon, and over a week later have gotten no response at all. Others are posting the same thing, so I suppose I need any tips I can get here.

Here is the online build I put together:

I wanted to add the Killer wireless card, but on the Alienware page, the starting point for "Customize it!" that gave $100 off did not have that as an option and the one that did only gave a $50 starting discount and ended up costing more for the exact same configuration.

So looking for tips for best possible deal. I need a second A/C adapter but I'm willing to take a chance on a $40 one from Amazon over the $120 cost from Dell.

Here's my advice to you two - Come up with a reasonable price you'd like to pay for these machines, and then talk to a rep and tell them that your price limit is that number. 9 times out of 10 if the quote is reasonable they'll give it to you for around that. I wanted 920 for the m14 in my sig, the original price was 1170 shipped, was given it for 940. Then I haggled free next day shipping out of them, which I advise you both to do as well. I don't know much about m17s so I cant give you a good quote, but cutting off 15-20% seems reasonable.

I wouldn't take that offer. I got my M17x last month with an i7 3740qm, a 680m, 1080p, and two year warranty with accidental coverage. After tax it came out to $2300. It was my first call to Alienware, and the rep basically just discounted all the upgrades without me really asking her to lol. I can give you her extension if you like. You would also save money by getting the stock hdd and ram, then upgrading yourself.

I'm having the same problem getting in touch with a sales rep through the "sales assistance" thread.

I am looking at getting the M17x fully upgraded (except HDD & RAM) with 4 year warranty & accidental, the online price comes to around $4000 which is more than I am willing to spend (I would cut the length of the warranty before dropping any upgrades to get the price down if needed.)

Please send me the contact info for the sales rep you used.

    Thanks.

    failwheeldrive,
    Sent you a PM also.

I sent you their info. Sometimes it's best to just call and speak with random sales reps. Both of the ones I ordered from gave me decent deals on my first time calling, but if they hadn't I would have declined and called back to speak with someone else. I'm sure you'll get a good deal, it just takes a little bit of luck and persistence. Let us know it goes!

Does Alienware have certain promotions or sales at certain times of the year?

Right now they are running a President's Day special, but I didn't think it was all that special; $175 off a $4,000 system.

I need to get 15 (or even better 20) percent off the list price to be at a price point I am comfortable with.

I went through the "Alienware Sales Assistance Thread" and they were very helpful, but I still need to get a little more off the price.

I don't mind waiting a little while (Spring, maybe early Summer), just not too long.

Thanks for any assistance or advice.

I am looking at a similar build, but with 3610 and 680m, also came to $2,144 online after discounts. Through the chat I then got a quote for $2k plus taxes (I cant call because I'm outside of the US, but have family there I can have it shipped to). Is that decent? I was expecting more of a saving, but I guess there was already $150 discounted (so a total discount of $294).

Hey I'm meaning to post my results sometime next week when my time frees up.

The short is the rep never called me back. I called back twice and got one rep that gave me an offer that was okay (~15% with other stuff). So i took it ill go into the dirty details in a more in depth post later.

Like I said I think it was just okay. I was on a fear that the Presidents' Day sale was up that day (I called night my time) so I took it with as a concession.

Just saw this on the AW website and thought I would share:

"For a limited time only, receive 10% off your PC and hardware upgrades."

This was for the M17x, I didn't check anything else.

    Hi all,

Given that extended warranties are generally huge profits for companies, anyone know if people have been having much luck negotiating discounts on them when dealing with sales reps over the phone or IM?

    Thanks,

I finally placed my order yesterday after watching and waiting for a good deal.

I got an overall discount of about 15% by calling a sales rep; that saved me about $200 above the current "Buy More, Save More" deal they are offering online.

I was hoping to get closer to 20% off and may have been able to haggle a little more, but after having followed the prices and deals over the past 2 months, the current promotion matches the best I had seen.

In total I saved about $600, which was like getting the 4 year warranty and 4 year accidental for free.

I also got 5% back on a Dell eGift card. (about $175)

Oh, and I got them to give me Next Business Day shipping for free as well.

Total came out to ~$2800. On my own, through the student section of the website I was able to get ~$200 off, which comes out to roughly 7.14% ($2600/$2800) off. I will also add that these prices include the tax. Here are the specs:

My was to a very nice young southern gal, and i come off as sort of a ditsy college student. So the call goes normally and then she tells me she also applied a $50 coupon (no one else mentioned this if they did apply it) asks if I apply for student or military discounts. I let her know that I am a student and that I'm actually getting this computer to replace the one I just spilled water and fried (true story >___<). So I wait on hold and she comes back and lets me know that her manager allowed her to discount it down to $2300. I try to wrangle by telling her that was far to much and if there was any other secret discounts that she knew about. She said no, but I was sick of calling and did want the system (already late by this time, I was limited with how much I could call from work and school) so I told her that I would settle with the 3 year warranty. My total savings through her came out to 15.38% ($2200/$2600). So I was able to get a nice $200 off the already sale price of $200. This of course came with the 5% gift card back, which I am still waiting on. And I jokingly asked that her manager give me next business day shipping too please (worked!).

    System specs:
I pretty much got the baseline 2nd model that's offered on the site (middle selection).

    AMD Radeon 7970
    500 GB 7200rpm HDD
    Intel i7 3630
    8GB 1600mhz RAM
    1920 x 1080 screen

And then I just bought a 250GB SSD for $150 from Amazon (Samsung 840 series)

Having trouble getting a deal myself. Tried twice so far over the last week. Talked to Andrew's contact on here (Brady) and he was only able to get me like an 8% discount (forget the actual number as I unfortunately didn't take notes). Just called again this morning and was able to get a 9.7% discount ($2494 machine discounted to $2251). Didn't go with it though as I really wanted that 15% or more.

edit: And the rep just called me back and offered me an additional $100 off so I went with it. m17x @ $2494 (web price) discounted down to $2151 which is a 13.7% discount. Add the 5% gift card value of $107 and in total it's an almost 18% discount.

I bought my system yesterday as well. Called up a sales rep and talked with them for a while. For those interested, after all deals and discounts were added I ended up saving 18.2%. Or 22.3% if you include the gift card.

Actually, that $2494 is already a discounted price because that includes the 12% off upgrades deal going on right now. So if I calculate in reverse... $2494-$1499 base price=$995*1.12=$1114+$1499=$2613 so $2151/$2613=0.82 so that's an 18% discount in total. Consider the gift card and $2044/$2613=0.78 which equates to a 22% discount. I think my math is right there.

Just paid $2150 for M18X with 3840QM/Crossfire 7970's/everything else stock. Sticker price was $2699. Toss in the 5% rebate for accessories that is on the way and I got a total of 25.52% off sticker price!!! I will add my own ram( 32GB 1866), SSD's (512GB's in raid 0) and when I can find one that will fit, a slot loading Bluray combo or burner. WOOT!!

I started by chatting the guy up for a bit and asking for the moon ( I asked for $2000 price as configured), then I hemmed and hawed for a bit then said "OK if you can get it down to $2150, I'll buy it right now" He was gone for like 10 min, then came back and said "Yes". I couldn't believe it. I have configured the same thing at XoticPC/Powernotebooks/HidEvolution/BTOtech and checked Ebay. Minimum for something with same specs was at LEAST $2618 and 2 had no operating system. Should be delivered March 18th. Just waiting for e-mail confirmation

    Hello ,

i'm willing to buy an M18X that has a crossfire 7970m and a killer wireless ( + the M18X messenger bag ) , for the rest i dont care if its default specs although i would obviously prefer better ones.

On dell website i can get it for ~~2500$ before tax but i'm gonna try and order by phone and see if i can get a better price : i'm looking for something like ~2300 - 2400 after tax.
So is this price possible ?

After reading some posts in the thread i see that many people were able to get nice discounts . So If anyone can pm me some good dell rep contact info it would be nice :) .

I can't pm you because you don't have 5 posts yet, but I'll send you some numbers once you do. You'll easily be able to get a few hundred dollars off. I recommend telling them you have a firm budget, and see if they can get the upgrades you want within your budget (including taxes.) I highly recommend at least an i7 3740qm as well, as the base 3630qm will bottleneck the 79790ms pretty badly.

i read that 3630qm is already overkill for gaming , i didnt know it would affect the performance on games when using the 7970s. I hope the 3740qm will be enough in that case. Anyways thanks for the answer :)

P.S : this will be my 5th post so i'll wait for your pm.

For some reason I still don't see an option to pm you. Maybe it takes some time for the option to become available after you make 5 posts? If you want to email me at cleveland 877 at gmail (no spaces) I'll replay with the numbers. Not sure how else I can send them to you.

The 3630qm is more than enough for single card setups, but the 7970m cfx and 680m sli are much more powerful than other mobile cards. The 3740qm will still bottleneck them on benchmarks (especially if they're overclocked) but the 3740qm has limited overclocking potential (up to 4ghz) so it's a much better option them the 3630qm. Plus, it's only a $150 upgrade, which is a drop in the bucket at this price range. I was able to get the upgrade for free from the rep I ordered from.

I read this thread couple days ago, and I though it will be hard to try.
However, I just try to apply $100 off of all the laptops, but it doesn't work with alienware.
Thus, I chatted with Dell rep, and he tried to give me a discount on m14x r2 model.
Before tax price was $1,298 and he offered me $1,376($1,272 before tax).
He also offered me special Dell Advantage Loyalty program includes 5% eGift card, 2nd Business Day shipping, and future promotional email.
After 5% discount, it will be $1307.24.
I don't think it is good offer, right? I did not mention about the student, should I mention it to the sales rep?
What is the first thing should I talk to the sales rep on the phone?
Since I am not native English speaker, it is quite challenge! haha
Thanks for the thread that give me a opportunity and encouragement to haggle lol.

I just called another sales rep, and she asked me a quote #.
I think i shouldn't gave it to her, she only $25 discount base on the quote.
Is it possible to get EPP discount as full time college student?
Regular student discount is only $26 off from $1,298.
If I can get 15% off, I will love to go for it.

Unless you are scraping the bottom of the barrel and are seriously strapped for cash, I would recommend not settling for a 3630QM CPU. It's not a bad CPU, but it's not really what should be considered a "high performance" processor. It has locked multipliers and there are more powerful and flexible CPU options. Starting at a difference of only $150 for the 3720QM/3740QM, there are clearly better choices in CPU options for those wanting more robust performance and at least a little bit of flexibility.

I just ordered my new laptop from a lady I have been dealing with for a while on other pcs and she always gave me a good deal. Here is what I got. Let me put it this way. This build is $2300 on the site. The REP's here would only take off $50. I called her, and this is what she sold me the laptop for WITH a 3 Year Onsite warranty!!! Upgraded to the 675m, and 1920x1080 display. I have a 256gb M4 SSD and 16gb Vengence memory ready to go in it from my other laptop I sold. :)

Thanks. Since it's still in production she told me if I wanted to change anything to let her know. So I am going to see if I can squeeze a little more out of her for a 680m for a little extra money. :)
