I know it sounds crazy but I want the XM processor just for overclocking. 1000 bucks added to the price tag really sucks though.

-
That's great! If you can go up to 680m with little extra money, it would be awesome! Nice deal!
-
Couldn't change the deal. So I will have to deal with the 675. Oh well. :/
-
Oh, but still great deal! 675 is good GPU.
-
if i am not a epp member can i still give a big discount??

Hi
Im new this website, and i would like to order an alienware m14x(r2?) with a 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM and a 1600x900 screen resolution (comes out to about 1174$)upgrade. I have been reading this forum and i am still questioning how this haggling works. I would really like to get a discount off, and i am frustrated that i missed the 879$ sale recently. Do you really just call dell and say id rather pay this for your product? If someone has any good links to coupons or tips to get this price knocked down i would greatly appreciate it! Thank You! -
The best possible deals are available from the Dell Outlet store

Is there anything specific for an m14x?

What are people's experiences on getting a discount on refurb alienware notebooks that are not part of a 30% or similar deal? I missed out on the alienware outlet week where everything was 30% off. I already called once and did the chat thing and the chat rep said the max he could do was 10% off after talking to a superior but that's not quite enough for me.

Ok, so the rig I would like to get is around $4000, M18x r2 i7-3840QM This is an already included $355 off automatically. No coupon yet is applied. Neither is the 2% saved from dell advantage with the 5% back via egift. I can remove a bit from the price by removing the blu-ray and going with the lower end 16GB of RAM. It's not much though maybe $225
I've already been approved of $1200 through dell preferred. I read that a discount is included with that, is this true? I need to save as much as possible on this rig because it's already over the pre-planned budget I had set for myself(Damn you Dual 680M SLI!!!).
On top of this I am getting 1150 back from my current desktop and laptop(neither of which I'll need obviously). However I can't get this back until I receive the Alienware so I am going to stress that I need this asap. Not to mention I am a full time student so this plays a factor when using my school funding for a Microsoft Office code for my laptop.
My question is, how much more could I possibly do to save besides haggle? I'm already iffy on haggling because I doubt I am any good at it. Also, the one option says it includes a backpack and headset. Is it possible to replace these items with say a mouse and keyboard seeing as I planned on getting them with the 5% back anyway...
Also if anyone knows a good rep they recommend that would be awesome. If not, I'll try and re-try until I find someone. -
Doing a Dell Preffered account gives you a little bit of an additional discount. I forget the % but it helps. Either way you only got approved for $1200 and you are NOT going to fit a $4k system in $1200. So you will have to pay cash. Dell will not split the system up part of it on the preffered account and another a different way. The lowest you can probably get it down too will be around $3200 if you are lucky.
It's either all Preffered or all cash/credit card.
Sounds to me you are asking for too much of a system that you can't afford. Suggest look elsewhere or wait till you have the cash.
-
Sephiroth_Masamune Notebook Enthusiast
Not sure why you're mentioning this. As I type this I am speaking with a dell rep who assures me I can do a split payment option between dell preferred and credit card. It has to be done over the phone though. -
This is false. My last 2 systems I split on both EPP and cash.
-
Great. Point remains for a kid or student that has to use two credit cards to get a system that obviously he can not afford is ridiculous. A system he doesn't need for school when he can spend $800 to get a nice Lenovo with an i7 and do what he needs just fine.

Lmao a kid? I am in school, and it's not FOR school, it's for gaming mainly, but I want a gaming laptop while I am out of town for work.
I can afford it just fine actually considering I'm getting upwards of $7000+ back from taxes. I'd rather not have to pay all out of pocket if I don't have to. Hence why I am using $1200 via dell preferred and getting $1100+ back from my other comps.
Instead of being an , why don't you try helping people before attempting to be ignorant. I happen to work for an asphalt company in the state of NY making $26 an hour. Pretty sure I can afford this laptop.
So if you need simple math to figure this out.
$4000 - $1200 - $1100 = $1700
Who wouldn't want to pay that for an amazing M18x r2 nearly fully loaded with Dual 680M SLI? Anyone? -
Hello,
I have a question about ordering Alienware m17x. The configuration I like is about 2300 online. Is it possible to get the price down and how much I would have to pay after negotiations? I read online that some people managed to get from 2300 to even 1500. That would be perfect price for me.
The question is how do I get to those 1500?
-
People... Great Thread... Looking for a m17x R4 or m18x R2... prices are high... i need to get them to $1800... What's the best you think i can get and how?? i have a $100 coupon... you guys can get like $500 discount.. HOW?! Please... some help will be really appreciated!!

In any of those systems... I really need help!! -
Either there's some special unknown coupon going on, or people are getting very lucky with haggling with the right rep who is willing to help you out.
-
I would recommend anyone looking to buy to sign up for dell to email you coupons and discount codes on their website. They just had a 10 20 or 30% off sale which was valid for Alienware products...Haven't heard of many reps doing great deals or special corporate deals lately however...You just have to wait and be patient.
-
Dang, if I saw the 30% coupon I would've ordered a system already. Just sign up for newsletter on their main page?

That was for the outlet
-
Curious, if there is a coupon, say for example a 30% coupon, would it be possible to haggle for further discount or once there's something big like that the reps can't do anything anymore?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
I would say it's near impossible to get more than 30%+. The reps will tell you that the machine is negative margins, etc. etc etc...You may get lucky that the machine is on sale though sometimes. I had a 20% coupon during that 10 20 30% off coupon sale and was able to get it down to around 26% or so due to it being on sale and being EPP as well. That means someone with the 30% coupon (only 1% got it though I think) was probably getting close to 35%+ off. The reps tend to not do more than that.
Your best bet is if you are sure you want to buy, hope that there is a gift card promo available at that time. Hope you get 30% and use the gift card promo for the main purchase and the bonus cards for separate peripherals like monitors, mice, backpack, separate upgrades, etc...
You may also consider upgrades if it's not that much more expensive as 30% off is a nice % off so it might make it competitive to do some upgrades even though they are more expensive than you can find elsewhere without the coupon.
Overall, 30% is pretty hard to come by, but having it apply to the whole machine and the support is probably the best I've seen. -

I can vouch for this. The Loyalty Rewards program offers free 2nd business day shipping and 5%back via egift card. Obviously the more you spend the more you get back. I'm planning on getting my mouse and keyboard with what I get back from my purchase.(M18x r2 should be here tomorrow if I am not mistaken) -
How does this loyalty program work? I've purchased an Alienware and a precision laptop from dell before (and even the old xps gaming laptops) but this is the first time I've heard of this.

Tried over chat to get a decent discount, got no where. Then on my first call I got a good discount and went with it ( I hate haggling and it was better than for instance what I could get on Xotic PC ) Base price subtotal on website was 4250 ( with savings of 250 ). I did not want to open a credit line as I am watching my credit score right now, so I did not get any discounts from that. I still got the subtotal down to 3600 after he talked to his manager. So 15% off website price with discount or 20% off the non-discounted price. Overall very satisfied, estimated delivery date of 4/23 ( ordered on 4/5 ).

Sephiroth_Masamune Notebook Enthusiast
Was that after tax? Or before?
Also yeah you'll never get a discount through chat. They are horrible from my experiences with them. Always call, and if it fails...call again. You'll get somewhere with them overall. -
You need to call a rep directly. If you simply call the main sales number and talk to someone...the most discounting they can do is like 5-10%
If you call a salesperson directly and tell them you were referred by one of their ither customers, they can give up to 30% and sometimes more on your laptop.
This was told to me over the phone from a Dell rep I was referred to by a friend. He was able to get me a fairly hefty discount.
Also, Dell reps (even if you are referred) will not double up on coupons. If you have a coupon for 20% off, they will have less leeway to negotiate with you on price. They will rarely give you more than your coupons worth in discount... Again, this was told to me by the Dell rep I bought my laptop from. I had asked him if I should come back with a coupon instead of negotiating with him directly and that's what he told me.
Your results may vary (obviously)...some reps are generous and awesome and some could care less about helping you. If you aren't liking the rep you're talking to, find a different one. -
I just called the 800 number and the rep I randomly got gave me that discount after I said I was looking to get to 3500. He countered with the 3600 number which I took. My subtotal was before my PA sales tax of 6%. So with tax it came to about 3810. Website price with tax was a little over 4500.
-
I just bought a M18x R2 and I'm was thinking of getting the extended warranty with accidental. Anyone know how I should go about to get discounts for it? I just asked and they were telling me $500 for two years of regular extended warranty.
-
Well, the best discount is to buy the warranty when you buy the computer. Outside of that the price hikes. Best bet is to call in and try to haggle as mentioned earlier.
-
Sephiroth_Masamune Notebook Enthusiast
What I did got me $100 off the price of the warranty.
They asked me if I wanted to extend the warranty and if I wanted accidental. I mentioned that I did in-fact want it but it seemed really expensive to me and I didn't think I could afford it. The guy then proceeded to ask me what I would go for if I did want it. I told him 2 years each would be pretty decent for me. He spoke with his manager and asked me if I would be willing to get the warranties if he knocked $100 off. I told him that would be awesome!
Easy $100 off. -
How do I speak directly with a us sales rep, I had no luck getting someone I can understand clearly?
-
Wow folks! Great information in this thread!
Has anyone received a good discount on the Precision Laptop series....M6600 or M6700? I am purchasing this for business use...if this pan's out then we could be purchasing more for business in the next 6-9 months.
Thanks in advance
-
Your best bet is to sign up for the small business newsletter and hope for a discount code, I don't know if Alienware reps can dabble in the business side. About a month ago they had 40% off coupons (from retail price, not discounted) so hopefully those come around again.

Does anyone here have a phone number for excellent sales reps at Dell Business and/or HP Business? Preferably a US-based rep, as I had really good luck with a US-based Lenovo rep for my Thinkpad W520. If anyone could PM me rep information, I'd be really grateful.
-
I just bought a Mx 18 R2. I ended up with about 15% off and a $136 gift card. I was able to get MPP pricing. Is that about what people are getting these days? It was the best deal I have seen in awhile, but it took some haggling. I'd post the specs but I'm using an iPhone to post.
-
15% and $136 gift card is not bad at all. Some people can get 25-30% discount with the right CSR. I was able to get a 25% discount on my m11x r3 back in 2011.
-
Do you happen to have any contact info for those CSRs, just wondering?

What about a Dell Business version of that code?

What should I fight for or ask for exactly?
I tried and my sales rep said hes hands were tied in offering more discounts. He then went on saying he can downgrade a few products but in the end I found it to be more expensive than going through site.
The thing is he probably forgot to take of the price of something somewhere I think.
Or am I doing this completely wrong and I should fight for just more discounts without hardware changes? -
hey does anyone know of any reps, or can refer me the rep or reps they deal with that give good discounts? if you can please pm me
-
Try to aim for the nearly-pure profit makers. If you're getting an extended warranty, try to knock down the price of that. Or, put a few extra items in your cart and try to haggle from there.
"Yeah, I'm thinking of buying this printer and monitor along with my laptop, but right now I only have cash for the laptop. Once I get paid, I can buy the printer and monitor soon after"
...Or something along those lines/items. You don't actually have to buy the extra items either. It just helps them help you because he/she's thinking that they'll get extra commission when you buy those from him/her in the future. I did that with my W520 with a monitor, docking station, and laptop lock and I ended up getting the laptop 25% off (though I bought the lock right then, since I actually wanted it). -
Hello again, I decided to cancel my first order and go all out and configure a system well over 4000. I built a cart on the dell site through MPP with discounts. I used a $100 coupon. Chatted with a rep because I was tired of talking. The rep said she couldn't help me, but when I looked up her quote she had given me another $100 off. Also, the total price was $267 less than the orginal quote.
So I bought it. Dell charged me the extra $267 even though it said on the site the final price was less. I could not afford this so I called MPP resolution rep and she first offered $50, then $100, $150 and when I said I was not going to make a new order she offered a $377 rebate to my card. I was supprised since I was only trying to get back the $267.
I also got a 5% gift card and 2 day shipping free from the Advantage Program which is so easy to sign up for.
I would not adivse you say you are going to cancel unless you are prepared to do so.
Here is what I ended up with:
Alienware M18X R2 Alienware M18X R2 with Soft Touch

The extended warranty makes it more but I use the extended one I have on my Mx17 R3 so thought I'd better get it. I am terrible at installing hardware so I went for the most I could get. -
hey guys i spoke with a rep the other day and he offered me a good deal. he offered me a m17x with the following specs:
Intel Core i7-3630QM
6GB DDR3
17.3-inch WideFHD1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M

Accidental Damage Service, 1 Year
& 200 dell gift card
he offered this to me for $1,729.64 . i took it an cant wait for it to arrive
online price for this laptop was $2,197.00 , so that means i saved $467.36 plus the $200 gift card which makes my total savings $667.36 (since i was going to buy an extra power supply and orion bag anyways). since i am a student he was able to give me the 200$ gift card. but if anyone wants his information i can PM to you (he gave me the okay give his information to anyone that wants a deal if they are a student!)
-
I think I didn't get much of deal...can someone help?
This is a m18x r2
18.4 inch (467.36 mm) WLED WideFHD (1080p) display (1920 X 1080)
3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3740QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.7GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (2x4GB)
Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M CrossFireX Enabled
1x 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
Intel 2230 Wireless-N
1 Year warranty and accidental damage
Subtotal is $2,370.54
The site subtotal is about $2,524.00
But I was given the 2% AAA discount I guess
Should I cancel and call again to see if I can get a better price?
**Edit
I just noticed that I was given the intel wifi card when I asked for the killer...is it too late to change a part? -
before i was offered my m17x r4 i got a qoute for a m18x r2 for 2,000 even but it was the base model besides the bluray reader, and one 7970m. i did get the accidental warrenty for 1 year as well. it seems to me its a pretty decent deal but if your a student you try haggle for a 200$ gift card if you want(since they have a promo right now). worth trying!!!!
