So, now DHL is saying they attempted a delivery and, as they didn't manage to do it, it will have to be re-scheduled for next week... This is really becoming a sadistic joke.
I sat at home all bloody day... for what? For them to come and make fun of me telling me that they tried it? Not even a card left then? And... I was there ALL DAY.

hmmm, DHL is holding my package....2 days now and nothing.

I checked if i was to send anything from copenhagen (denmark) to Dublin 8ireland) and not the super expensive express then it takes 5 days, but is that included with weekend days? and my guess is that is just laying there and could have been on a flight to denmark, but becuase its not express and paid a billion for then we hold the package even though we got room for it :) wonderfull world of business.

Guess i am not gonna play age of conan on the m15x the first couple of days.

I don't think that there was a problem with your poor lappy that you didn't go through :( not that i read the hyperlink you sent me :D
Hopefully it's just a one off thing...hopefully you get your laptop back, and it will be in more than perfect working order, (with a nice compensation check inside), hopefully everyone will get their laptops on time from DHL, and hopefully i'll get mine on the estimated delivery date, and also hopefully that all our troubles can be sorted if only we believe in the powers of hopes and dreams, tears of joy, and fairy dust!!!!

Seriously though, to everyone making an order from DHL, (present and future), if you are going to take a day off work, (as i most probably will), there is no point calling the depot, all they look at is a screen stating wether your machine has been loaded or not.
Next time you are told what your delivery day is. Give them a call, and say you want to amend you delivery method slighty, then ask to be put though to the driver!!!
This is the person you have to talk (and kiss up) to, to know where you machine really is!

Hmm, in my experience talking to a DHL representative is like talking to a robot with minimal programming. You'll just recieve the same response from them over and over ("It's been dispatched...it's been dispatched...it's been...etc).

Since it is their business to know exactly where an order package is at any given time (probably investing millions of pounds in tracking software) I find it bemusing that they can never give an accurate estimation of where the damn thing is.

    Long story short:
1- DHL CS: "It's being shipped today" "When?" "It's being shipped today" "When?" "It's being shipped today"
2- 2 people promissed me to check what was going on... No one ever called back. At 4pm CS gives me depot number and says it's still at the depot and won't be sent today anymore.
3- Tracking online is updated. The laptop was out for deliver on a van at 5am and they attempted a delivery at 5am (they have superfast cars). No one was there to sign, so they left a card...
4- Phone CS today. They say as I wasn't here to pick up (I spent all day at home yesterday), it will have to be re-scheduled to next week.
5- Phone depot. Trucks are out and there's no way to put my parcel until tomorrow.
6- Going to the depot myself to pick it up.

    That's a service with quality!!!

I didn't even know you COULD personally pick it up!
Sure would shave alot of time off the waiting process!
I am sorry to hear that the lappy is taking so long to deliver. If good things come to those who wait, then (considering the time you waited) you should have the best Alien Butt Whooping PowerHouse Beast of a Laptop ever to grace the presence of the 15.4" genre! With a new upgraded chassis, no overheating problems, and NO CS CALLS EVER AGAIN! Just wait and see Buddy! :D

Like a true James Bond. With explosions and things like that.

First impression... It's quite cool. Heavy. Shinny. Quite a few scratches.
It looks solid. But have to play with it more.
The keyboard lights do leak a lot... But that's not a problem.
Also, the power button is stiff like hell.

I will keep you up to date and will post some pics and reviews some time soon. :D

    now down to buisiness.
what you on about, scratches??? i hope not.
and the power button.................is touch sensative and doesnt move so you dont have to press it hard.

dont worry, cos your a new owner we wont laugh :D :D :p
actually when i rang up on my first day when the controls werent working support said to press it harder. i said if i press it any harder i would dent the chassis.

and just in case you havnt seen it yet..........
my update a fooked motherboard. thats slightly different from last night when they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it.

enjoy your new baby. all the stress is now forgotten about (i hope).

when i first got mine and the 3Dmark06 score was over 9000 the fans were intermitent.
for the last 2 weeks since my score went down to just over 3000 the fans were on continuous.
i hope this doesnt mean what i think i mean but if i were you i would load the free version of 3Dmark06 and test your speeds.

    fingers crossed for you mate.

I have tested the GPU very fast... THe clocks are right there and the GPU fan is never on unless I'm using the GPU.
It's the CPU fan that never switches off (even if it's going slow and not loud).

NO!!! DHL is so anal. I called them today, it is infact in denmark, but they choose to drive wrong way :), 300 km away, so they can transport it back the right way again :). Thats becuase its a road delivery??? she said :) why drive it to one if the 2 other locations that are in a 20 km range of my office??? So after 6 days of DHL control still no laptop, but maybe tomorrow she said with a voice that didnt sounded like i should expect it....MAYBE tomorrow...suckers, so exspecting it within 2 days now.

Its in A when it should be in B:

    Finally recieved :(

The sad thing is that i am working from home today, so it might first be tomorrow that me and the m15x will unite. I'm gotten sick in the mean time :( cold and feber (my 7 months old son has infected me). So it might not be tomorrow either :( currently doing my whiskey treatment that usely helps :) (bought the king george IV bad as hell whiskey. Drink that, yes the hole thing, and usely the feber and cold is gone in the morning but with a bit of headache)...

Will give you a update on the flawless and non overheating m15x that a have recieved

PS: ManU gonna win tonight :)

@Slashkun... unpredictable. If you are not put back into phase 3, that's a good start. But this is really impossible to predict and I think it will depend on your config.

@labrat666 - Mine is still fine. The screen wobbles far too much and my CPU fan, seems to me, be working more than it should (so it makes a bit of noise).
Appart from that, GPU normally stays under 87ºC (in synthetic tests and gaming whatever I throw at it) and CPU under 72ºC (also max load).
So I gues that, hardware wise, it's working fine for now...

    Good luck with yours.

    Slashkun,
Firstly, welcome aboard...good to have a new face.
in regards to your question, it really does depend on whether or not they have your parts in stock or not. Till last week (when they were awaiting the X9000 processors) i was stuck on phase 4 for 2 weeks. Now i'm finally in phase 5.
Easiest thing to do is call customer services, and ask them about your machines progress.
If all parts are in stock, then you will have your machine built in about 5 working days.....forget the phase system...it will drive you insane trust me.

ok sweet, well i am an IT Technitian so i do know how long the process of waiting for parts and stuff can be and thanks for the advice.

To be honest thought i would rather wait an extra month then have problems with it when it does arrive (and trust be i want this thing BAD!).

LOL, you're in the same boat as everyone else on this thread.
Try to remember to keep an open mind though, and try not to read too much into it. If you look at the faults that everyone is having, then you too will be looking for the faults in your machine when it arrives.
Enjoy the moment, and decide when you get it.
The M15X has oversold well, and Alienware will be wanting to keep us happy. So even if there is a fault with it when you get it, I can safely say that they will be working on a fix for the fault soon. Hang in there mate!

    Just ordered mine may 20.

    Specs are:

    8800M GTX
    2.5ghz 800mhz fsb 6mb cache
    Turbo cache thing.
    2gb of ram

Everything else is as it was before customization.
    Price is at: 1,550 pounds.

So still on phase one i received an email stating that i need to send in a utility bill so I'm going to get my mum to do that.

Is it alright just to use my digital camera to take some pictures of the credit card front and back, use paint to block any details they don't need and send it in to there email?

EDIT: While I'm posting, is it actually worth it? My friends are telling me not to get it because alienware is overpriced and overrated...
Keep in mind i will be using this for wireless internet gaming and basic computing.

Nah... They just want a document for security checks. Just send a credit card statement (if you have one) that shows the credit card owner's address, the card number. Let the owner sign it, and that's it... You don't need anything else.

i just scaned my bank statement and blocked out all the transactions and funds in my bank

and also scaned my card front and back and blocked out all the digits apart from the last 4 on the front and the last 3 on the back.

might look stupid but tbh i really dont trust any low level employee at AW looking at my card. It would be far to easy for them if they just saved the pics of my card then went mental with my account.

(btw those picks did the job and it all went through fine)

to be honest im sure u can order an m15x and then if it does come all warped and broken then send it back and say this is not what a paid for and ask for your money back.

If i remember corrently you are entitled to a full re-fund if you dont want the product within a number of days of recieving it.

Finally, its just a great laptop, glad i waited....

So far no issues, it runs age of conan with insane FPS for a laptop.

I have a Asus A6J partly gaming laptop that is so warm that you can not keep your hand on top of it and the fans sounds insanely loud that you wont believe it, so m15x is soundless compared to the asus.

But i aparently ordered a laptop without the iluminated keyboard, how dumb is that. Is it possible to order that and assemble that yourself.

The keyboard looks like its prepared for lights, so my guess is that its actually just need the alienfx ribbon as shown on this page:

    http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/alienware.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5685&p_created=1194878822&p_sid=2mhtUn4j&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTMsMTMmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPTAmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9mbmwmcF9zY2ZfNj0yMDUmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1tMTV4IGtleWJvYXJk&p_li=&p_topview=1

Any comments on the keyboard thing, do any one know?

I read in a german forum that you can turn on your unlit keyboard by changing some registry settings! Currently searching, will edit when I have details

    Edit:

    - disable AlienFX
    - under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alienware\ change the value from "MDRipley" to "MDRipleyNLP" (always w/o quotes)
    - restart AlienFX (you will have your keyboard as a light zone and lit but your lightpipe will be off) and disable it again
    - set back registry value to "MDRipley"
    - now every light zone should be enabled permanently (including keyboard)
