    Congrats btgman !!
I called AW today and the guy told me it is still in assembly which should be done today/tomorrow and the intergration will take a little time since it is a new model or something like that and my m15x will ship out next week.

youve got a couple of games. donkey kong and space invader. the graphics are brilliant. ill ask your girlfriend later if she likes it :p :p

time to get serious . :(
my ship date was 4th april
i was told last week that i was receiving one of the small consignment of chassis that came in last week. if i was then my laptop would be on the way to me like our good friend ioaniro's is.
it looks like someone is telling porkies.
just rang up and there is a delay on the chassis. the large delivery of stock is in but they are doing extra checks on them before they are released to the production line.
im told to look out for an email the middle of next week.

    here we go again.

ok, i understand and appreciate the extra checks that are being carried out as the last thing we all need is to receive a nice new shinny m15x to find out after a few days that the casing still cracks and we have to return it.

i think someone needs to get their stories straight or sort out the communication within AW

    My cancellation went as thus:

Me: Hi there I'd like to cancel an order please:
Dude: .............OK.... can I have your order number?
    Me: Yeah it's XXXXXXX
Dude: OK .... that's for M15x (etc etc etc)
    Me: Yeah that's the one
    Dude: Right........
    Me: ......
    Dude: .......
    Me: ......sniff
Dude: That's the M15x order that's in production right?
    Me: Yeah that's it
Dude: I think it's due for shipping today maybe, ..
Me: Yeah I still want to cancel though.
Dude: hehehe OK you should get a confirmation e-mail of the cancellation then.
    Me: That's excellent thanks
Dude: Can I ask why you chose to cancel?
Me: Yeah it was just needed for a deadline so I've shopped elsewhere now.
Dude: Right, well you should get the cancellation confirmation e-mail through.
    Me: Cool thanks then
    Dude: Goodbye
    Me: Bye

I've had no confirmation e-mail yet. If it's not here by tomorrow I'm going to confirm comfirmation of my cancelling and the sending of a confirmation cancellation email.

Hey all i've been lurking for the last week since i decided on a laptop, thing is i like the look of this but is it actually gonna turn up in this month?

i've just found the Novatech X80R Pro, and it looks mighty powerful, if not as uber as the Alienware, so what is the chances of placing a order about now, and getting one by the end of the month?

also i just checked, alot of you have been saying that the chassis is out of stock, by AW.co.uk there out of screens, and a few other bits. heres the lead times for the units.

    Microsoft® Works 2008 - English 1 day(s)
    4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz - 2 x 2048MB 3 day(s)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme X9000 2.8GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB) 6 day(s)
    Area-51® m15x Protective Cloth Sleeve 6 day(s)
    15.4" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD (720p) with Clearview Technology 9 day(s)
    15.4" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD (1200p) 9 day(s)

Chasis contain the screens, they say screens but they're missing sort of everything. Anyways now they'll still be in a tight spot for 1-2 weeks till they sort all their past orders out so I doubt they'd ship a new order before the endo of the month but who knows :D. If you're in a hurry I can't recommend an AW after my experience with them. I'm not sure I'd recommend it if you have time, wait till mine gets here for testing :D.

6 days for the protective cloth sleeve???
think i could do without that if its going to hold it up for 6 days.

the large consignment of chassis are in stock but they are doing more tests on them before they are released to the production line due to the cracking from heat.

I'd say same or better performance (since is a 17" i'm guessing no overheating problems) for less money. You lose portability, battery life, AW looks and a lot of headaches due to CS at AW. :D. There is someone that canceled his m15x and ordered from novatech and he was very happy, drop him a pm to get a better review.

PS BOFH1971 was the guy I'm sure he'll help you.

You will receive an email from alienware soon. In this email, they will tell you that " I still waiting for some of the missing parts. I can assure you that once we receive these parts, we will do our best to expedite the delivery of your order. The estimated delivery is by the beginning of 2009"

This would mean that they didn't stress test the other chasis that they sent out already? Hmm... I think they're just inventing excuses for being slow lol.

the amount of stories ive had over the last week makes me fell like crying as well (in anger that is)

was gauranteed last week that i had been isued one of the small delivery of chassis that came in on wednesday last week the same as ioaniro (before the main delivery came in this week), and that is why i had moved to phase 5 on the 25th and delivery would be the 4th this week.
yesterday i was told that my chassis was being stressed tested and had not even reached the build stage yet and this would delay my order even further.

so hopefully we will get ours next week LaptopLu

I tried posting last night but the website was having difficulties. Just some info after a day of playing around with my m15x:

Gaming: It plays Crisis pretty well at 1440x900 with Med to High settings. I can have all high with Shaders, Shadows, Sounds Quality at Med and it seems very smooth. I played for about an hour it didn't appear to downclock (I have the latest Bios -x30 - installed and the fans kicked in). I check my temps after gaming with GPU-Z and Graphics card was at 79 degrees. BF2142 plays flawlessly with all settings max but it will only let me play at 1150x800 res. Any ideas how I can fis this?

I've got a fair amount of issues with it though - and, having only owned it for 24 hours am pretty dissapointed. The build quality is awful. The Case behinf the screen is flimsy and there is a lot of flex. The flex in the bottom right of my keyboard has got worse after a day of use. My touch controls stop working after about 45 minutes of use, which is really annoying. The ALIENWARE name under my monitor doesn;t light up atll and there is a definate gap in the chassis above the card-reader (on the right). I spoke to AW customer service and they said that I'd have to send it back to have the chassis and the light fixed. Could take up to 2 weeks to turn around. Lol. I've only had it 24 hours.

All in all, it is a good laptop - very fast but the build quality isn't great and frankly I didn;t expect to have this many issues with the basic fucntions after 1 day.

Unbelievable, a laptop with 2 month late, a big price and the quality isn't great....damn but where Alienware is goin.??????

btgman in the property of bf2142.exe put +szx 1440 +szy 900 , this will fix the resolution

Sorry to hear about the build thing. I was half expecting it but still hoping that they'd try and make it right... I'm pretty sure mine will have some of the same issues, I'll keep you posted in the weekend if I'm lucky to get it. I'm 80% sure that if the build quality will not satisfy me I will send it back for a full refund, can't afford to wait more for the thing. Only if the flaws are minor I will consider sending it in for repairs and only if they promise some unbelievable super deal to go with it lol.

This story is getting out of hands, you place your order 2 month ago. They have a HUGE delay with no compensation to the customers. They explain the delay by saying that the build quality of the chasis that they received in February did not meet AW standards. Then, when they finally send you the thing the build quality looks like a made in China AlienUare replica? I wonder wht the 1st shipment of chasis had wrong not to pass the AW quality control lol. I'm guessing big crack in the middle of the screen? :D

    btgman... sorry to hear that!
Why most of the posts on the laptop are negative? How is it possible that a laptop comes with so many problems?
In all honesty, we should all rebel and strike hard against, what seems to me, a complete lack of respect for costumers and their hard earned money! This should be exposed and a full article should be written about what a horrible story the M15x was and how dissapointing Alienware turned to be! That would show them to have some respect for whoever is getting a computer from them!

your the second person to mention the AW logo does not light up. this is a flaw and should not have left the factory. it seems like AW are not doing the propper QC checks before its release but trying to rush the completion to get the systems out to the customer.
touch controls stop after 45 minutes use is another flaw and should have been picked up by the 200 step QC. once again this should not have left the factory.

to be honnest with you all, i have totally lost interest now with AW. before i ordered my m15x i saw them as the rolls royce of computer systems and was in awe of their spec and build quality AND REPUTATION.
now i dont really give a toss and any little thing wrong WHEN i receive mine and it goes back for a FULL refund (+ interest, yeh im dreaming) and i will never recomend this company to anyone again.

i wonder if this is because they have been taken over by dell and if so they should be ashamed of themselves to let a once great company get so bad.

a verry pissed off jim

    MrDJ

Just to let you know a bit about the refund process... I'm pasting an email I received from Alienware regarding that.

"Thank you for corresponding with Alienware.

In case you need support for your system, we will work with you until the issue is resolved. Alienware cares about all our customers and we will research and test as necessary in order to fix an issue a customer is reporting. You can rest assured that in case your system fails, we will make sure to find the proper solution to the issue.

If you decide to cancel your system, you may get a refund of the original purchase price, less original freight cost if you are within the time frame allowed. You will also need to follow the policies and procedures established by our company.

If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us."

So, if they send you a ruined laptop, you'll still have to pay for a non up to standard machine to be shipped to you and back to them (so that they can just ship it again to some poor and unlucky client!).
Oh, and the time frame allowed is 14 days... So if you have to send it back for repairs... That's it!
Alienware it's really a nice company...

MrDj I agree with you, right now I'll never recomend AW to anyone....

    Latop with a big price....
    Delay are huge....
    Overheating problem.....
    touch control stop......
    Chassis cracking......
    Keyboard flex........
Driver up to date not release....

And they think we're going to believe this:

Before receiving Alienware’s validation, each system undergoes our exclusive integration and inspection process called AlienInspection, which includes optimizing the operating system, running performance benchmarks, and “burning in” the system. Our stringent 200 point quality control inspection ensures your system will arrive ready to use right out of the box.

    http://www.alienware.com/build_vs_buy_pages/alieninspection.aspx

I'm just in a nightmare, maybe this'll change..... (I Try)

Their CS reputation and strange flaws were known before the dell acquisition and many actually think they improved since dell got them lol. Did a checkup on them before ordering and there were many alienware_sucks blogs and webpages. That is why when I started on the AW road I made the promise that at the first significant defect in the first 10 days the system is going back for refund and not for repairs. We'll see how it is when it gets here though, at least there's no overheating issue and the system runs well so far for btgman.

I don;t have a camera - just my phone and the quality isnt really good enough to show the gaps (I tried taking a few). I take some anyway and post them later.

@MrDJ - I hear you, it is dissapointing. However, it is a great laptop in every other respect. The build quality issue is really dissapointing because apart from this (and the touch controls) it's a fantastic machine for a 15.4" laptop. You should wait and see what yours is like first - you may find you're able to live with the flaws ... or maybe Alienware will find a fix for them.

I must also say that the customer service people I spoke to yesterday about my problems were really good. They were really hel[pful and patient. Also, I got straigth through to them without having to wait on hold for very long. Credit to them there.

We shoudl probably start a UK m15x thread to highlight any common problems. That way Alienware will be aware of them and of the general dissatisfaction.

I also forgot to mention that the nameplate on the back of mine has been burned - after 1 day of use there's a black mark across it.

I'm not overly bothered by this because I think it's a fault with the quality of the nameplate rather than an overheating issue - afterall the laptop didn't burn me or the table it was on and my GFX temps never went above 80 degrees.

hang on so the nice custom laser etched nameplate goes all thermal till receipt on you? thats just wrong.

just like those till receipts that are "warranty" but if they get warm they go all black.

I am seriously worried about the kit you guys are waiting so patiently for....
I really hope all the issues are fixed , and I hope that they arent just fobbing people off with existing bad chassis, rather than fixing it. they have had these things to test since last SUMMER!!!

Trust me, if there would be a 15" with these specs I'd have ordered ages ago but for now I'm stuck with these guys. If it doesn't work out i'll settle for a lower spec 15" either from the dell xps or somewhere else. I ordered this laptop as a present for my girlfriend and I was never in a hurry to get it, they just annoyed the hell out of me by constantly lying about the status of the order that's why I got aggressive on them :D. Anyways as much as I will test it with benchmarks and burn-in programs be assured that their 200 points control will have to pass the 1 billion points control of a woman eye so if there's any chasis build problems/cracks/colour gradients AW is screwed lol. And just to be fair to them I didn't mention anything to my gf about the laptop and the problems so she will have an open mind on everything when she gets the surprise dhl visit (in case it arrives home before I do which I highly doubt).

Well it's standard dhl delivery. In my case the dhl guy never ever asked for an ID, as long as the guy opens the door he considers it the good person ;).

I just got a call from Alienware offering to replace my entire system. I agreed and they said they would put the new one into production and let me know when it's finished. Then I have to DHL the old one back to them (for free) and they'll send me the new one when they receive the old one.

I'm hoping most of my issues will be fixed. It isn;t ideal but it's better than sending for repairs and being without my computer for 2 weeks.

Jcharnley, do you move to phase 5 or still in phase 4?
I have just received an email from them. They said that "In an effort to reduce your order being delayed any further, we have put your order into production and the M15X 9 CELL EXTENDED PRIMARY BATTERY BLK will be sent on afterwards once received into Alienware" .However when i check the online status, i'm still in phase 4.

I might tell them to start manufacturing my replacement now in preparation for when i get my original laptop and notice all the scratches and burns and whatnot, it might save on the round trip time!
