grrrrrrrrrr.... phase 4 for 1 week 2 days now
-
-
Ah missed the " Burn in/benchmarks that they performed" part
Waiting for your 3dmark score thenmine was 600 off
(which it should, Vista with only drivers installed > Vista with +10 user startup programs running)
-
i know this is off topic,
i was just looking at my 3dmark 06 score and its 300 less thab Fusioness and he has the same specs as me except for i have double the ram and the 1200p screen..
any reasons why? or how can i catch up? -
what's your score?
did you see AW's 3dmark test? -
it was something like 10686 or somewhere near there.
no i didnt see AWs, i heard its exxagerated though. -
Did you install bunch of programs? Disable internet, anti virus, logitech set point?
-
good idea. no i didnt disable internet or avista antivirus..
i will give that a try. -
wow, never seen a ripley design on an Arima chassis. Looks awesome, yet classy.
-
wow i LOVE LOVE THAT ripley lid on there wow i wish i could order that for the m17 i think id spend the extra just for that.. wow. i really like the matte with the ripley
-
the reason is simple, its because you have double the ram, running in dual channel. you always get higher scores with 2 1gig sticks. thats why all the sad people who want to break 3dmark records use 2gbs because it scores more because its got a faster access time, no big deal... -
-
accept it as fate. unless you remove half to get the same score
-
Quick question, did you ask like on the phone for Ripley or anything? or mention it? Just wondering because that's a very obvious mistake for someone to make and if they do their Phase 8
Anyways
BAM PHASE 8! Next step, shipping! -
you wont regret it one bit trust us
as long as the drivers keep getting better and better like they are -
Woot Phase 5, according to others experiences it flies trough phases now right?
-
Nope, it's weekend now.
-
well thats weird it updated mine from 3 to 5 today
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Ripley instead of Skullcap? No one would even know what the hell Alienware was if it weren't for that outlandish design. To each man his own.
-
But well if they dont work on weekends the phases will fly by on monday right? Just kind of worried going on a trip on he 23rd hoping it gets here before then
-
wow that's pretty random that you got a ripley lid. you didn't specifically ask for one or anything, did you?
-
-
-
-
I ordered it the 9th and chose 2nd day shipping
-
Ordered mine on the 9th and it's already at Phase 6!
-
I predict a delivery date on the 20th, or sooner. Sounds like your order is making it in due time you should be fine. And about that.. I chose regular shipping and fedex (from the time they gave me the tracking number) only took two days prior to deliver it, yours might only take one day prior.
Cheers mate. -
It goes by pretty fast, you guys are basically in the long run now. -
To be honest, AW's shipping date is pretty fast when everything went as it is supposed to be. Faster than Dells.
-
-
I got my first m17 in 6 business days including 2 days for shipping to Canada.
-

What kind of scores are you getting, Caskey?

Oh hi
Read this entire thread somehow, and while it made me question my decision, I'm pretty confident I'll like what I get. Some questionable gpu power reviews got me twitchy though heh.
Quick background. M9700 from years ago under extended warranty had LCD die. 2 months at depot, no part. Blah blah blah I got credited towards a replacement. M17.
Went with the 9300, Xfire, 4gig, 160. I probably could have kicked in about $400 and gotten the 17x for 30% more gpu juice, but I was seduced by the Quad (of course). In hindsight I could have taken the 9100 and more HDD, but I'll just newegg another 160 and RAID them probably. What the heck, eh.
Phase8 as of Friday, should ship Monday 2day express to arrive Wed! -
Thats what I got

Alienware m17 is a good laptop
im enjoying it in Vista 64
Yes the customer service is REAL BAD
the guy was not helpful at all
i asked him something & hes telling me read the manual
thats real bad answer, & other things i asked him
him he did not know
That gives a real bad name to Alienware
wish they have more helpful people in cust serv -
What brand and part number is the HDD Drive the 160GB one that comes with the M17
-
If you have it in your possession it should be right on the drive itself....

No specific brand is used. Alienware will use whatever they have in stock.
-
They gave me the 7200.2 seagate which is slow compare to the lastest drives standard.
-
I also recieved a 7200.2 seagate with my m17. Would highly suggest you upgrade it yourself to the 7200.3 and/or WD Scorpio Blacks.
-
Those seagates run hot too. My primary is a WD Scorpio Black and when under load it runs cooler than the seagate does idle. Temps peak in the fourties..
-
i think mine's a seagate too. thanks to my Zalman, it never gets hotter than 42°C (although it used to hit 50+ without the cooler).

Finally got to crack into my M17 yesterday though I received it a few days ago.
First impression? The thing is massive. I'm coming off an Inspiron 8200 and I thought that was huge and heavy. This thing dwarfs the Inspiron by an extra third.
Haven't installed any new drivers, but took COD4 for a spin and the game runs smooth as silk with everything enabled. Bloody amazing feeling.
My only hangup is the ALT key is quite small, as I use the button during games to sprint (America's Army, COD4) but that's a minor quibble.
AlienSense failed to recognize me the first time trying to authenticate with it. I'll probably disable the feature.
Other than that, loving it. Still have to spend more time with it to get a more fleshed out impression, though.

Glad you're happy with the setup. Congratulations.
Don't think we've had a 3DMark score from anyone with the QX9300 (link if I'm wrong). Could you do the honors, or just post the score Alienware gave you? Thanks in advance. -
I suggest you to disable aliensense until it's fixed, it's now wasting cpu cycle and double the boot time.
-
It came yesterday! What can I say that everyone else hasn't said already?
I love this thing, it is assembled VERY well.
I'm in the process of undervolting it, but it runs cool without it. I get 61 C after running crysis for a half of an hour, not too bad!
Everything on it checked out, all specs are correct. Oddly enough, they didn't send me a mousepad :/
Games play smoothly and the sound is pretty f'ing good.
Glad to have this mother onboard!
