Ah missed the " Burn in/benchmarks that they performed" part :)

Waiting for your 3dmark score then :p mine was 600 off :p

(which it should, Vista with only drivers installed > Vista with +10 user startup programs running :p)

the reason is simple, its because you have double the ram, running in dual channel. you always get higher scores with 2 1gig sticks. thats why all the sad people who want to break 3dmark records use 2gbs because it scores more because its got a faster access time, no big deal...

Wow, I would kill for ripley instead of skullcap on my M17. I was planning on ordering an M17x but when the M17 came out cheaper, and I wanted to try ATI cards(I've always had good luck with them on my desktop, but I'm worried I might start regretting it) I went for the M17.

Quick question, did you ask like on the phone for Ripley or anything? or mention it? Just wondering because that's a very obvious mistake for someone to make and if they do their Phase 8
That makes me question their methods

    Anyways
BAM PHASE 8! Next step, shipping!

Ripley instead of Skullcap? No one would even know what the hell Alienware was if it weren't for that outlandish design. To each man his own.

Nope, ordered it online like anybody else. Never did I even email or anything for status updates. Just took my time and waited. I ordered during finals week and I guess life travels fast when you're getting 2 hours of sleep then going to class 6-8 hours a day, but I can say that I was checking that status page every minute of my life.. like hawk (not really but I checked at least once every day lol)

Nope, I ordered the m17 to sacrifice cosmetics for performance.. kinda funny how that turned out.

When did you order your lappy mate? Some of the people here, I for one as well, have gotten our laptops in less than 2 weeks. Specifically, took around 11 days. (Most things I order on the other coast take around 2+ weeks)

I predict a delivery date on the 20th, or sooner. Sounds like your order is making it in due time you should be fine. And about that.. I chose regular shipping and fedex (from the time they gave me the tracking number) only took two days prior to deliver it, yours might only take one day prior.

    Cheers mate.

Mine was on Phase 6 as well on a Friday, checked again on Monday-Tuesday and it was still on Phase 6. Wednesday, I got an email during the afternoon that it was shipped and I received a tracking number.

It goes by pretty fast, you guys are basically in the long run now.

    Oh hi :)

Read this entire thread somehow, and while it made me question my decision, I'm pretty confident I'll like what I get. Some questionable gpu power reviews got me twitchy though heh.

Quick background. M9700 from years ago under extended warranty had LCD die. 2 months at depot, no part. Blah blah blah I got credited towards a replacement. M17.

Went with the 9300, Xfire, 4gig, 160. I probably could have kicked in about $400 and gotten the 17x for 30% more gpu juice, but I was seduced by the Quad (of course). In hindsight I could have taken the 9100 and more HDD, but I'll just newegg another 160 and RAID them probably. What the heck, eh.

Phase8 as of Friday, should ship Monday 2day express to arrive Wed!

Those seagates run hot too. My primary is a WD Scorpio Black and when under load it runs cooler than the seagate does idle. Temps peak in the fourties..

Finally got to crack into my M17 yesterday though I received it a few days ago.

First impression? The thing is massive. I'm coming off an Inspiron 8200 and I thought that was huge and heavy. This thing dwarfs the Inspiron by an extra third.

Haven't installed any new drivers, but took COD4 for a spin and the game runs smooth as silk with everything enabled. Bloody amazing feeling.

My only hangup is the ALT key is quite small, as I use the button during games to sprint (America's Army, COD4) but that's a minor quibble.

AlienSense failed to recognize me the first time trying to authenticate with it. I'll probably disable the feature.

Other than that, loving it. Still have to spend more time with it to get a more fleshed out impression, though.

Glad you're happy with the setup. Congratulations.

Don't think we've had a 3DMark score from anyone with the QX9300 (link if I'm wrong). Could you do the honors, or just post the score Alienware gave you? Thanks in advance.

It came yesterday! What can I say that everyone else hasn't said already?

I love this thing, it is assembled VERY well.

I'm in the process of undervolting it, but it runs cool without it. I get 61 C after running crysis for a half of an hour, not too bad!

Everything on it checked out, all specs are correct. Oddly enough, they didn't send me a mousepad :/

Games play smoothly and the sound is pretty f'ing good.

Glad to have this mother onboard!
