Crap, lol I ordered mine on like the 7th and they just got into phase 8. Guess I will check my email after work to see if I did get a tracking # tho

 

argh mine jumped to phase 5 today.....

i know i didnt max my machine out esp with the cpu but im excited

 

Its military postal service, so no unfortunatly we don't get tracking numbers

Its been 23 days since my computer shipped, and i'm seeing packages coming in shipped less than one week ago and getting here now. I think it got caught up in our address change. Well the address itself didn't change, but our location did, so it might be at our old location until somebody figures out to forward it out here. I'm keeping my finger crossed every day at mail call hoping for it to come in. My newegg box that shipped a week after the computer did came in 2 days ago with my Ram and 2nd HDD and a bunch of games for it.

 

Well i called aw today. they said its still backordered but they offered me overnight. How nice of them. should be here on 420ish

 

Is there any news of possible technology upgrades in the next couple months? Like ATI HD 4870 instead of 3870? I haven't purchased my M17 yet, but I plan to in the next couple months. I can wait until June, and I'm curious if there's any hope for an upgrade by then..

 

Is the M17 worth the price? I wanted to get it to play some games but im not sure...

 

i spoke to Aw during the week when i spoke to them about my M17 order and i asked about the 4870's i was told "not soon" as they had "fitting issues"

will run about 2100 to play games very nicely (any game out on max) just about

if you want cheaper try to buy just a regular OCZ Whitebook from xoticpc.com its the same laptop just cheaper since it does not have the same looks

 

Well I just gave AW a call, they received a bad shipment of hard drives, cheap wiring, and bad soldering. YaY another delay.

 

I emailed them this morning and just got an email that my M17 was shipped today. So I wont be getting it this week.

Most likely should get it next thursday when the next shipment of goods come here. Unless they like fly it to NY today and then get it here thursday...Which is unlikely.

Oh well, Im not going to be able to sleep until next week...ughh

 

Well for my little story its delivery day according to DHL today...

...i think i am straining my neck looking down the road looking for that yellow van...

 

Just called up AW. Their expecting a shipment of hard drives early next week. Btw, this may be a dumb question, does AW have more than one manufacturing plant in the states? From talking around on other places im noticing these delays are only happening in Florida right now.

But for a quick and accurate answer i went here. If i purchased an m17, would it be fiscal to buy the least ram, then insert it myself? and is it quite easy? and for the processor/CPU could i do that also? thanks and sorry for interrupting

 

no problem .... the ram would save you 200 $ and the cpu will void your warrenty if you upgrade but will save you money. But yes it is easy

 

oh ok, cool, as for the CPU, would it be worth it in your opinion to get the cheapest one, then replace it with the duo extreme? thusly like you said, voiding my warranty...note ive never put a processor in myself, would there be instructions or videos i could find to assist me?

you just unscrew stuff and just put it in and put some paste on it then screw it all back to together

I thought it would void ur warranty too, but guess not. Although I wont be upgrading my cpu for awhile once I get mine.

I doubt the issues with the quad will ever be fixed....unless AW fixes it in their bios but then no overclocking

 

the new distributor will proably release an update and fix it

the new distributor will have to to put in support for 48xx GPU's

 

new distributor? So the 48xx is coming to the m17?

 

Flextronics is working on it and AW has said they are working on testing a new GPU liek it could be anythign else


there have been some hints by good people that there will be a new distributor

First thoughts? The M17 is a little cooler than that compaq "laptop" that I bought many years ago.

And now I'm in for that 1 to 2 week period of moving all my stuff.

 

I just finished playing crysis with the new 9.4 drivers via tkrelia (can't remember his nick properly), and I noticed that my max temp according to GPUz was 79.0C, however my FAN speed remained at 30% the whole time. What's up with that?

isn't anything in the 70's risky temp-wise? And why is my fan locked at 30%? I have my vista power settings to power performance...

 

öhm 79° is soo cool I wouldn't even feel sorry for the crad

I normaly get something around 82-83 and the fans go only sometime in fullmode, how do you see this "30%"? CPUz?

Edit: can I disable fancontrole in the bios? And if I do it, would the fans run all the time at the max speed?

 

it is gpu-z that says it is at 30 percent. but it really isnt. as temps raise so will the fan. and you cant change it in the bios. only in the vbios.

 

the vbios locks out the programs and user bsically

it always says 30%
and ati overdrive wont work

 

My M17 is in phase 8.... Wiiiii!!! I was wondering if you can tell me your ship experience... Am i going to be like one week in phase 8 or is it fast... See ya... By the way, mine is 4gbram, 512 ati video card, 2.4 crossfire, skull chase...

 

did you not get dual cards?

and you coulda saved 200 by not getting the ram from alienware

 

this might be a stupid question but can you physically remove one of the vid cards to increase battery life? if so which one do you remove? the slave right? which one is the slave?

 

i think it says on the card slave

but yes you could but would be a serious pain ... you have to unscrew the bottom and then unscrew the heat sink and remove then screw it all back

to put it back in unscrew the bottom and then the heatsink then reapply thermal paste then screw back on heat sink and bottom

 

I know that you can run the m17 with the master alone^^ But may be there is a better way to save energy^^

yup i have it there to but its the sleep issue ... not quad
wish i had the quad stuttering because it would mean i had a quad

but the fix is in the thread i created several have said it works fo sho

 

Lol i know what you mean. but i have tried all of it and it still doesn't help me. i started a quad thread and no one has really said anything to all the trouble shooting i have tried. i am going to run 3dmark and see what i get stocked. W7 drivers.
