Talk of an alienware console is a waste of time and kinda stupid.. Anyway, the M14x is 6.4lbs??? 1600 screen res. The weight is a deal breaker for me. Might as well get a Sony SB or a good full hd 15" with a better gpu and less weight lol

I agree that it's silly, that was kind of the tone of my other post even though I was adding two paragraphs to the idea.

What turned my interest in the M14x off today was the screen. I know a lot of people prefer 900p in a 14" screen, anyway, but I won't buy it if that's as high as it goes with only WLED technology. As for the weight, I don't think 6.4 lbs is that bad considering the 15x was 9+, right? I don't think it's very good necessarily, but it's not bad for an Alienware.

why complain about the weight?? if you get tired or cant pick up 6.4 pounds then maybe someone might wanna hit the gym lol.

also id rather have a laptop built like a tank that has some weight to it, then having a flimsy light laptop.

Some people like to carry their portable machines around, believe it or not. It's not about the physical ability to lift it. I lift heavy boxes at work every day without breaking a sweat, but there's no way I'd want my laptop to ever weight that much. Light does not mean flimsy either. Simply means portable. It's incredible easy and convenient to sit in bed or on the couch with or take with you to work or class or to travel with if it only weighs a few pounds. The heavier and bulkier it gets, though, the more inconvenient it gets. It's pretty simple, actually. Again, little or nothing to do with how fit you are.

    m11x is portable...

m15x isn't, they are like ASUS G-series. A gaming laptop is not portable (coz they are really heavy), that is true...

But m14x will be really OK, considering m15x, m17x, m18x

Im sure I hit the gym more than you do kid lol bench 330 :p. Point is when im walking around campus all day with 4 textbooks and a 7lb laptop it sucks. Starts to get to ya. If a laptop is sub 15" it should be as they say " ultra portable " otherwise what is the point? I could see a 15" laptop weighing that much if it is a gaming laptop but otherwise.. no thanks. Might as well get the M17x and leave it on your desk.

Edit: They should have made a 13.3" and kept it around 4.5Lbs. That would be a bada$$ machine.

Yes 4.5 pounds at 13.3" would be awesome, but the m11x is 4.4 pounds at 11.6". I don't think they can realistically stretch it two inches and get the same weight, especially for an Alienware. Would be a perfect laptop if they could though ^.-

If they did, it would be a little more difficult for them to adpot the "Most powerful 13.3" notebook in the universe" moniker, as they'd have a lot of competition in that bracket.

i didn't saw it being posted before, but if that's the aesthetics of the m18x then i'm happy they didn't adopt the m11x/m17x R3 look :D
    Thanks JaiaV.

NP. I agree on the aesthetic part. I also find it interesting if you look at the file information on the images, they're in a folder called Alienware_M18x-Avenger. Sounds like an interesting name.

Is that 330Khz or 330Mhz? Sounds like a pretty low bench score. Oh bench press. What forum is this? :D

I do agree that they shouldn't have gone with a 14 and should have went 13 instead. That way they could keep the M15X and everything is symmetrical.

Now the M18X with anodized aluminum sounds awesome! Gonna need a new backpack.

JaiaV - Good find on the link. +1 for new info!

A good find there JaiaV. Looks like they've preserved the anodized aluminium of the R2, which I suspect will please quite a few people here - myself included.

I can't take the credit guys. It was someone on the Alienware community thread on Dell's forums. Wish I had written the name down. Honestly have no idea how they found it.

The M11x is already 4.4 lbs, when most netbooks it competes against are under 3

Alienwares are just heavier.....noticing an extra 2 pounds on your bag though....that is just stupid to complain over. Especially if it is accompanied by textbooks like you claim, you are worried about 2 lbs in a bag that probably weighs over 30 any ways?

And for the people STILL complaining about the bezel on the M11x.....I have yet to see an 11" laptop without a large bezel on the screen.....the math has already been done to show that even a 12" screen will NOT fit in that space

I've carried my m17x to class all week, I don't even notice its weight in my bag. Then again, that might be because I used to carry battle gear all over the place as well as my bag, etc. Either way, I'm a fat out of shape nerd again and I still don't even notice it's weight unless I try to hold it in one hand. Just me though. I appreciate the weight of a sturdy aluminum shell much more than the chance of some flimsy plastic thing breaking on me. Then again, I've seen people actually complain about the new MacBook Air being too -heavy-. Honestly, even though it is made of metal, I'm afraid I'd break it. *sigh*

Why I'm glad that more and more the possible m18x looks like it will retain a more R2-like design than the R3. I almost certainly won't be buying one simply because I already have my R2, but it makes the future look brighter for when I'll need a new desktop replacement down the road.

So, sorry if I got something wrong, but is it confirmed that the M14x will have the DDR3 version of the 555M?! I can't download the manual since I'm on a public connection >.>

    Memory = 8GB 1333/ 1600MHz unbuffered non-ECC dual channel DDR3 and
    Integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000
    Discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 555M.

W.r.t. the weight discussion, if the m14x is 6.4lbs then for an exta .09lbs I believe the sager 15" model can be bought with an nvidia 485/amd 6970 and an extra inch and a half of screen real estate.

Even with the m11x, it would seem that the acer 3830 is a better bet. (and I'm no fan of Acer) Alienware seem to be selling 15" and 13" notebooks with small screens for all intents and purposes.

So that being said, whats the attraction? Design? Build quality? (both extremely important I'd agree, but I'm genuinely curious)

IMHO, weight shouldn't ever be a problem for men... I am fine lugging around a heavy laptop if I needed to. Sure over time it would suck, but I am also carrying around a beast thats probably the best performing machine with in a few square miles. lol

Design is a major factor for most, I would hope at least. AW doesn't fall short of design. Sure Sager is great and all, but if you want to have a great looking laptop with equivalent performance, pick up the AW.

Sager though was second in line to getting my money, but the price(after working some magic) I was able to pay less for the AW, and get better looks.

If that Alienware color choosing link is accurate, then that gets me excited all over again for the M18x. If it is made of adonized aluminum, then it seems that they want this to be the flagship and they may treat it much better than the other notebooks. This gives me some more confidence that it will also come with a nice screen. Now all I want to see is Lunar Silver. :D

The Sager laptops also don't have Optimus, which is a major feature for me, especially in a portable laptop like the M14x.

Sager said there was a potential performance issue that prevented them from implementing Optimus into their performance notebooks. I don't know if it is all hot air, but be aware of the potential for there to be some problems regarding this, perhaps switching or sub-par performance issues.

Well, as much as I despise speculation, I have something to add...

So Alienware was due to send me another unit because mine is basically a refurb that I paid a new price for (MB and screen replaced). The new unit has been on order since 3/25 and I just got an email that my order was cancelled and a new order was created.

They upgraded me to the i7 and my rep sent me an email that they had to change it because they were in the process of changing things around and had no more i5's to fulfill my order with. Whether it is a load of BS or not, I don't care, as I am getting a free upgrade.

Alienware really dropped the ball when I ordered my system and when it needed to be foxed, so I see this as them making amends. Not only am I a happy customer again, I will be letting my friends know that once again, Dell/Alienware went out of its way to make me happy.

Take that info at face value I suppose...

I'd like to note that when checking this link the m11x, m14x, and m18x are now missing from the choices, leaving only the m15x and the m17x R3. Seems Dell caught it.

Hmm.. GT 555M GDDR5 has only 96 CUDA cores? DDR3 version has 144 CUDA cores
I think the performance will be pretty much identical (trade-off between processing power and memory bandwidth) but with 900p screen, I will choose the 192-bit 144 CUDA cores DDR3 version.

    NVIDIA should labeled the GT 555M GDDR5 as GT 55 0M GDDR5.
    Totally messed up!!

Can anyone summarize what we have on alienware now in stock/planned?

    M11x r1
    M11x r2
    M11x r3 (planned)

    M14x r1 (planned)

    M15x r2

    M17x r2
    m17x r3 (3d)

    M18x r1 (planned)

    Am i right?

    --

I personally think that 14 and 18 models are redundant.

very very fortunate M11x buyers for the next 3 or 4 months.. they can wait for the R3 to be released and be happy about it, i mean, a beefier card and faster RAM????

hopes that I have for R2:

benchmarks that are in level or 2 - 6 frames higher than R2 (not gonna happen because of sandy bridge)

available compatible screen replacement for R2.. (i'm talking about the new screen the R3 will have)

that battery life will be lower than the R2.. (speculatively speaking, i guess sandy would be the one managing that...)

lastly, and that diablo 3 will work with the R2.

I know they're shallow, but come on? they could've at least waited for another year,. or let M14x come out first..

(i have contentment issues, just ranting)

    M11x | M14x | M17x | M18x

Also have too remember the r2 can overclock and can hit most of the time 2.8ghzs too 3ghzs mine can hit 2.8ghzs and with thottlestop which i haven't even tried yet it might could match a stock r3.

Battery life might go up on the r3 because the sandy bridge uses less watts even tho by the specs of the cpus its ony 1watt lower than the r2 i7.

And for diablo 3 i wouldn't even worry about that sense the r2 can play crysis 2 and pretty much every game out maxed with decent fps, Diablo 3 will play fine even on the r1.

But ya the r3 will be faster but i really don't see it being a huge upgrade from the r2 well maybe the gpu but the 335gt does fine the way it is and it doesn't support direct 11 but i don't care for that because that's what my desktop is for lol. And its not like the 540 going too maxed games out in directx 11 either.

My m11x is ony for when im at work and when i go home it pretty much sits in its bag till the next work day lol..

But ya im pretty happy with my r2 which mainly why i bought it is because of its battery life so if the new one is even lower battery life than the r2 than i wouldn't want too have it anyways.

Make sure you double-check any NDAs, and their limits, before you post anything like pictures or data sheets.

If the M11xR3 had a much better screen than the R2 (which wouldn't be hard) and this was possible, it would be awesome!
