    The 14x will be 1.49 inches thick. They couldn't slim it to just under an inch? :p

    Yes they can and look at the overheat problem that ENVY 14 has with almost 1" thick :)

    I rather get a better cooling system so i can overclock safely.

    #1 should have specified that the existing GT 555M simply might be soldered into the motherboard...."Fit" would sorta include that kinda thing if one were to think about it, but it's best not to leave a specific like a non-removable GPU as an implied. ;)

    The rest of your post was spot on though.

    That's the way I like to think of it. The problem with people is they often compare a product to its predecessor and think that it has to fit the same purpose: think of the M17x R3 and the uproar it caused by not having 2 GPUs! The truth is, the R3 is aimed at the old M15x market, and the M18x is aimed at the old M17x market.

    If you think of the M14x as a more powerful M11x with a larger screen, it makes more sense than a smaller M15x that's also significantly weaker.

    Hmm...oh! I used my CD drive to install Crysis 2 the other day! And...and...give me a minute, I'll think of something!

    In all seriousness, I wish they offered a 'smart bay' option, like they had on the old area-51 m15x. The ability to hot-swap a CD drive with an additional battery or hard drive would be perfect on a laptop like this.

    Makes sense. Solder it on and you save space. In a machine this small (and it is small, compared to the M15x) they might not have been able to fit a 555M and a decent battery and a CD drive without soldering it on.

    Yeah, but at that point I didn't know it was soldered on ;) As said above I was also referring to some extent to laptops in general and how there are a multitude of MXM slots and card sizes.

    How sure are you that the M18x manual is not ready... :) Just because we didn't find it, it doesn't mean that it does not exist. I am relatively certain (meaning I know but can't prove it) that when the M18X icon appeared on the Dell support page a long time ago there was a manual there too, I just got sloppy back then and everything got removed before I got my hands on it.

    Comparison of m15x to m14x

    (HWD)
    m15x = 1.92" x 14.80" x 12.20"
    m14x = 1.49" x 13.27" x 10.17"

    There are some more differences, I think. The M11xR3 has a microphone array on the screen so two holes instead of one :)

    It was also rumored that the palmrest and touchpad is different (I might be wrong though). According to that dell interview that was posted in this thread it would appear that the palmrest assembly has a soft touch finish similar to the exterior and also the touch pad is made from that material too.

    You can't see this on the SM images because the SM images of the M11xR3 are actually the ones from the R2 (same files).

    Thanks, I appreciate it! Must have missed that earlier in the thread :eek:

    2.88kg just shows that this really is closer to the M11x than M15x. The M15x was, what, closer to 4.5kg? (something in that sort of area) This is a truly portable machine. Hopefully the battery life will match up too (which it should, with help from Optimus).

    I think I was referring to the fact that, before anything, there is no guarantee that the M14x will use MXM. Most laptops don't...especially the ones under 17".

    Hey guys,

    On the Dell Canada website, here is a following screenshot showing that the new Alienware models M14x and M18x have been some what integrated into the web marketing page. I was also just chatting to a Dell Sales representative using their product support chat and I sent him the link that shows the new models and now he is contacting the marketing department.

    I'm going to assume now that there's some larger reason Dell isn't using the 485M in their laptops (yet). It doesn't make any sense for them to offer a 6970 and only a 460, especially in the M17x-R3, a 3D gaming notebook.

    If they're going to go with aluminum, they should go all the way with brushed aluminum. They will just be ruining it with a rubber coating.
