OK that might work

Woaa, the M18x will be able to get as much as 32GB of RAM O_O
-
back on topic please - we have a thread in place for warranty discussion.
thanks. -
I'm personally curious as to the lighting options for the m14x as well (trivial as it might be). Will it have touchpad illumination? Will it have different zones for the keyboard? Anyone know anything about this?
-
It has an illuminated touchpad
-
No Blu-Ray on the M18x?
-
If anyone happens on the size/weight of the M18x, I'd be curious how it compares to the R2:
16.1x12.6x2.1 -
I'm certain they'll add it. Remember, they're constructing the web pages for both the M14 and M18 as we speak
This is the most exciting thread I've been in all year! Go M14!
-
There is no updates on the Australian Alienware website
-
I hope there's an option for a blu-ray drive in the m14x, just for kicks.
Although there wouldn't be much point without a full hd resolution would there? Speaking of which, I heard rumour that there would be an option to have a 1920x1080 display on the m14x, but then heard something else that said it wouldn't be. Anyone have any idea who is actually right? Or is everyone just guessing at the moment?
YAY! for web page construction! It was the Canadian ones yeah? -
Nope, I don't believe so. There was only 1366 and 1600 listed in that document someone linked about 15-20 pages back if I'm not mistaken.
I assume it'll be +100 US for the upgrade to Americans and +150 CDN for Canadians.
1080 would be too small for our eyes on a 14.1", no? I know on my 15.6" it's "just right".
Yeah I saw that too on the Canadian site
-
Anyone else going to get it in red?
-
no. i sort of think that the chassis is the ugliest thing in the world, but the specs are too good to pass up.
i'm going black -
<--
I've ALWAYS wanted red.
The red MSI that I owned over a year ago was stunning/gorgeous in red design, so I've been wanting to repeat it ever since. Red is truly beautiful on a laptop ...especially on Alienware ones. -
If the entire thing was Red, I'd probably be more keen, but always been a fan of black. Only reason I'd get it in red was purely for the eye-catching factor.
-
I've always wanted a m17x red ever since i got my frst m17x R1. My current m17x r2 is red and i don't regret it. Anodized black is a finger print magnet.
-
This was the first thing I noticed when the specs were "released," I guess you could say. That there was no 1080p despite numerous technical websites listing it as an option in their supposedly leaked specs. And, not to knock the M14x as I'm sure it'll be just what a lot of people were looking for, but it is the reason for why I am now glad that I ordered an XPS 15 last month instead of waiting for the M14x. But, that's because the most important part of a system, to me, is the screen, and I loves me some 1080 res on a B+RG. For others, the GPU is (understandably) more important.
-
damn it, wonder why not? i mean like why canada??
-
So, what is the speculated released date for the M14x?
-
Because we're America's hat lol
We usually always get what America gets at the exact same time (movie releases, tech, clothing, etc.). Although it's a nice feature, they like to add 10-30% on products even though our dollar is overtaking the USD by 5%.

It's not bigger than a 15.6" notebook. In fact it's actually smaller than comparable 14" notebooks, such as the Envy 14.
The weight might be comparatively high, but look at the M15x which weighed nearly 10lbs, this weighs just over 6lbs. It's still a very portable weight.
You see, your problem is that you believed a rep.
What, better than Crossfire 6970s? The only thing better than that is SLi 485Ms, which would also be considerably more expensive for about 5% better performance. -

I think there won't be a GTX 485m option in the m18x just yet as many m17x R3 owners are waiting for its Dell vBIOS. Hey it's just a hunch
-
So the R2's true successor is almost here. Guess I'll be selling my M15x on roids (aka M17x-R3) tomorrow on the NBR marketplace to get ready for M18x.

Thanks! Are you to planning to get one of those new AW systems?

Yes but I'll be heart broken to leave my R1 and only for some of those nice green 485ms and metal casing .
Probably will also trade one of my m17x for a R3 and give it to my wife
-
So where is the 485M?
-
in few day ( perhaps weeks ) .
-
Not going to offer that because of cost.
Also, Eurocomp stated that they have the engineering sample of 6990m . This will be something very interesting . -
Dual 6970Ms - 'Incompatible with Alienware M18x 240W A/C Adapter'.
Oh, well that's not good. -
Anyone find a config page for the M14x yet? It'd be interesting to see a ballpark figure of Dell's pricing scheme.

It might not be quite as wide as the Envy 14 and 4830TG but it is deeper and a lot thicker and heavier. In terms of thickness, weight and depth it is even bigger than 15.6'' notebooks.
I admit that the m14x intrigues me. If it the the only 14'' offering a high-res screen, good graphics and good battery life when I buy my next notebook then I will definitely consider it. But if there is something similar but a lot lighter and somewhat smaller, I do not see why anyone would get the m14x. I mean, they could have at least made it a little thinner and lighter. The Envy 14 is almost .5'' thinner and it doesn't have heat problems. -
Agreed. Throws the possibility of upgrading my M17xR2 to 6970M Crossfire out the window.
-
Do you know why envy 14 doesn't have heat problem ? Because HP engineers purposely underclock the card to balance the thickness and heat. It was a huge issue when it first launched and eventually people give in. I think they should add a stronger GPU to compensate the slightly larger size and take out the optical drive for better cooling/ battery.

Any guesses at the "intro" price of the m14x? Price point.. hmmm...
Well you can get a Dell 17xps with almost same hardware 2630qm + 555 nvidia for $1017 right now with coupons. The m17r3 starts at 1499. So what will the m14x start at? $1199? Like the old m15? $999? Like the old m11xr2
Start your guesses now.

There are thinner 15.6'' notebooks without underclocked components that don't have heat problems as well. All I am saying is that it seems like they could have at least made it a little thinner.
Since it isn't, though, it should at least be one of the coolest running notebooks around. -
Just download the manuals:
-
And those thinner notebooks generally have less power, it's also a 14" and not a 15.6" compare apples to apples not apples to oranges.
-
1149 starting price. Just a guess. Probably 1400-1500 for quality system specs. I'm hoping for a lower price point but I dont see it happeneing.
-
Other 14" notebooks won't pack the same punch that this thing does. Most 15.6" notebooks don't, for that matter, and those that do are a lot bigger, and a lot heavier (like the M15x). The GT555M in particular blows most competitors out of the water. But with both a full power mobile CPU and the powerful GPU linked to a single heatsink, it requires that depth and weight to provide cooling.
And with AW's track record, this thing should have awesome cooling, not just adequate. I don't know about you, but I'm willing to sacrifice a little depth and weight for that extra cooling ability.
It might be thicker and heavier than other 14" notebooks, but in reality does that make that big of a difference? A pound or two, and half an inch extra? I'd rather carry that extra pound around for the beast that's inside of it. In an ultraportable market a pound either way might make a difference, as would half an inch, but this isn't an ultraportable.
