Not sure what you're saying?
I wouldn't buy 8GB of RAM with the config? I'd upgrade myself?
-
Me too. :| Lets start over again. What do you mean by your question?
-
What would be the best possible RAM I can put into my M14x?
In terms of everything, latency, speed, heat spacers etc. -
And yes your right. This would be the best ram as of now. Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz But afaik, The stock ram of the m14x is also a 1600Mhz. But still not sure about the pricing.
-
What does XMP Profile do for me?
Should I go for the one without it? Which is better? -
Xmp profiles are basically just automatically sets the configurations of the ram. But I think you should go for the hyperx, knowing that the dell rams would be more expensive when you upgrade with them. Plus the hyperx has those cool heatsinks on to help cool the ram.
-
There are two versions of the Hyper X, one with XMP and one without?
Which one do I choose and why? -
Huh? Can you please post the links.
-
Wow thats the first time i saw that hyperx, it even doesnt have any reviews. Just get the one with the xmp profile. Because if you are getting the 2630qm which does not natively support 1600Mhz, The Bios will enable it thru xmp profile 2.
-
Whoa, hope that the conversion is not pound for dollar otherwise we're looking at a $3000 with i7-2630... Probably won't be that much, but whoa.
-
I will be getting the i7-2820QM. What is XMP first of all? Why do certain RAM have it?
-
well hp dv4-3000 gpu will beat m14x gddr5 gpu just watch out for it
-
I wish it was... bought something off Steam the other day and was pleasantly surprised that it cost LESS in Australian Dollars as opposed to American dollars...
And I just remembered I'll have a decent tax return this year, and if I sell my m11x r1, I should be covered for an m14x, not to mention a tax rebate on the machine because I'm a student for the next year, life is sweet
-
AMD Radeon HD 6750M (1 GB DDR5) ? vs Gt555m???
I do not think so... -
Extreme Memory Profile. Most of the latest ram have it so that it will be easier for you to select the settings of your ram.
-
Ok a number of points from several pages of reading:
XMP profiles for memory only work with the Extreme CPU's so unless you are getting a 2920, I don't think it'll do you any good.
Someone asked if there was a 500GB ssd. Acually the Intel 320 comes in 600GB which is a bit more than $1k USD. Pricey yes, but you should never have to swap stuff in and out because it has plenty of space. Food for thought anyway.
I sure hope Dell/AW never goes with chiclet keys. You might get better lighting, but chiclet keyboards are horrible at their job, which is typing. Ok horrible might be a bit strong, but they really just aren't good. And I appreciate a device that functions better, especially since I use these keyboards day in and day out. If you want less light leakage, consider the M6600, which has a bit less light in it's keyboard system and might suit your visuals better.
Lastly, 485M SLI is supposed to be coming, just maybe not on the day of release. But it is coming. Unless you have a wish to save $ (which is a fair thing these days) or wish lower power consumption, the 485M is about 2x as fast as 460M, so 2 485's would be about 4 460's
-
well guys getting off the ram topic for a second, i think the day has finally dawn on us all...
the canadian alienare laptop page is down, on the site there are 4 pages listed;
laptops, desktops, gear shop, and awards. all are working BUT the laptop page, tried multiple times and no go... last time this happened the US laptop page was down for a day and the next morning there was the m17xr3 back for sale, this has also happened multiple times before. i think you guys get the drift, but in case you dont, this could mean either that the site is down due to alien radio waves from space messing with the site or the m18x OR the m14x OR BOTH are being released as we speak, if it is they are both right on schedule with dells release dates the m14x being a few days off! i can see a surprise double release ho bout you guys? im not saying this is for sure but i have to suspect! get exited!!!!!! -
We have now pictures in the main(usa) AW site. Alienware M11x Laptop Details | Dell
-
I went there. It still worked.
-
I like this picture... hehehehe
-
I just went there. Thats R3 all right. USB 3.0 is listed. I have a feeling we mey have new models tomorrow. On a side note, I can get an R2 i7 8GB RAM w/500GB HDD for $759 with some coupon codes. Hmmm? Pattern here?
-
Apparently he swallowed it.
)
-
They said the same thing about laptop keyboards when they first came out. Now they are replacing traditional desktop keyboards. And light leakage is hardly a reason to choose a M6600 over a M17X. But it does speak to a quality issue that should be addressed in a $4000+ laptop. If you're going to sell a laptop based on image and function, then you have to be revolutionary in both aspects.

stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
Dude.. convert pounds to us and the m14x with basic setup is 1900???? What tha...
No way no how. 1900 bones for the m14. I see them not moving fast from the warehouse.
stevenX -
Look at the features. It describes Nvidia 500 series GPU, and 2nd Gen Core i7.
)) I want it.
-
Sure. Nvidia Gt540m and Sandy Bridge CPU....
-
I know. I hope they launch tomorrow, or the 29th. I think they're just preparing for the 19th launch.
-
hopefully both the igp is accessible and the GTX 460M isn't the only single gpu option for the M18x, otherwise M17x R3 will remain the best choice for maximum performance w/portability (size/weight notwithstanding)... we'll see next week!~
-
ok i just did some fooling around, m14x page is up, no specs but someone posted a review lol
m18x page is us no specs/reviews
and as posted the m11r3 page is up to almost entirety.

links are also up in Canada too... just replace the "/us/" to "/ca/" and you will get Canada
PS... all these may and probably have been posted. im just trying to help because i didnt read all 165 pages so just please dont bash if they have been posted. -
M14X was confirmed to have up to 7 hours of battery life on the official Japanese Dell/AW website about 15-20 pages+ back
And at the British Pound price concern. Remember that Brits are forced to pay 50%+ more than US prices on average. Not sure why some of you are praising the price as "cheap" because that's an overpriced/rip off at 2000$ for a stock + screen upgrade M14X
@ Brits: You guys should use that Evolution US website where you pay them, they order it and forward it to you for a small fee. You'll save lots of money
-
Now thats a portable gaming laptop!
-
Oh nice! I just noticed on the Brit AW site that it comes already with an i7-2nd gen, so we won't have to pay to upgrade it from i5 to i7 once it's up and running on the official AW US/Can website (at least I hope
)
Edit: Comment is regarding the M14X.
Edit 2:
If you guys are curious at US/Can Pricing VS UK Pricing on the M18X:
Ok, let's do some math since I have 2 prices to work with.
M18X = 2020$ on the Canadian AW website (which got taken down)
M18X = 2198 British Pounds on the live UK AW website
2198 British Pounds = 3332$ Canadian
Total markup is: 1312$ Canadian Dollars which is 64% more if I'm not mistaken (according to Google)
So counting your VAT/import fees, if the total is less than 64%, then order from a US AW forwarding website
US/Can prices are similar on AW units (we pay 100$ more for each laptop). -
That US - UK comparison sounds something like Australia.
M11X - 900 bucks in the US? 1800 in Australia.
M17X - 1500 in the US? 3000 in Australia.
One can only hope this isn't going to be the case with the m14x... otherwise I might consider a similar way of obtaining one. -
Wow. That's got me all excited
-
The Japanese site did not confirm m14x has up to 7 hours battery life. Also, I can confirm validity of this information as the chinese site also did not state m14x has 7 hours battery life. That 7 meant the laptop is under 7 pounds, which is idential to the chinese site where it clearly stated that the weight is less than 7 pounds.
-
Yup. This is the website I see alot of people on this forum outside the US/Canada talk about in order to obtain AW laptops at the US price:
hidevolution.com - Alienware M17x R.3 R3 non-3D Custom Built to Order
in case anyone is interested. They haven't added the new units yet since they're not posted on the US AW website.
Just be aware of your VAT/import fees and such
-
If the i7 come as stock option, Dell will raise the starting price as well
-
I believe the number 7 was brought up twice on the information page and a previous poster mentioned one of the 7's was concerning weight and the other 7 was concerning battery life. This was about 40~ ish pages back. I'm not getting excited for battery numbers until it's actually confirmed in English
-
Hi guys, i am thinking about sell my M17X (Which will be really hard to do in my country) and get tje new M18X, someone have an aproximitation about the price o medium specs?, you know, the highest monitor but not high end graphis etc
-
1899-1999 USD, since it was 2020$ on the Canadian AW site before it got taken down. This was with stock, which included 1080p already and a single 460m if I'm not mistaken. I didn't get a chance to toy with the specs since I only saw a few screenshots posted by users on these boards many, many pages back.
Note: 1080p 60Hz was the only screen option at the time of the screenshots. -
The starting price in the UK is 1698.99 pounds not 2198
-
Edit:
The price calculation was based on the M18X for both the UK and Canada.
Prices for Canada was on the official AW site before it got pulled, and the UK price was off the UK link a few pages back someone had posted.
(I thought you were talking about something else) -
Oh, so you set the same configuration on the UK website as on the canadian and that's what it adds up to in the UK?
-
Post #1560:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/562455-alienware-new-model-speculation-thread-156.html
Here is where I got the price I used in my calculation (off the screenshot a user posted). Had to dig for it again because I closed my tab lol
-
But did you see the picture on this page (post 1587) :
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/562455-alienware-new-model-speculation-thread-159.html -
Nope. Damn speculation thread and its contradicting screenshots LOL
So let's start over:
M18X Pricing ~~~
Canada = 2020$
UK = 1698 BP
1698 BP = 2645$ CDN
2645$ UK - 2020$ CDN = 625$ markup (or 31%)
Much better
Note: VAT is 20% (Jan, 2011 new rate) if purchased from a US reseller.
- Prices may change as both CDN/UK are screenshots taken from the official AW website in this thread.
(CDN/USD is nearly identical/very close) -
Yep, makes people in the UK feel a bit better
-
Thanks for reply, vodooi, 2000 USD sounds good
price, was almost what I paid for my current machine getting 14% off, it's sad about the 1080 screen, I hope this at least with RGB or a better screen, let's see what they have
-
Can you share those coupons or say where you got them?
Is that an m11x R2 refurbished or new?
