So the Nvidia site shows that the GT 555M has a DDR3 version and a DDR5, does this even matter? I saw the m11xr3 features that it says DDR3 there. Im wondering if the m14x will use the DDR5 version or not.
-
Stand by for the config links, I need a few more minutes. Dammit they hid the M18X well -

And yes, it matters - GDDR5 has 2x the clock rate of DDR3, meaning that GDDR5 for the same clock provides twice as much bandwidth -
found this:

We need the config site.
-
i got there by manipulating the url. been trying now with the config site but cant figure out how exactly to do it.
last time i just added a "-r3" after the m11x in the url -
-
do you think that the m14x could be a possible desktop replacement?

Are you kidding? Go look up benchmark scores for SB mobile processors. It's not even a competition. -
so, it can be a good desktop replacement for simple video editing, and flash animation.. -
I am also downscaling. Planning to get the m14x as a desktop replacement (for animation and simple video editing) and getting the ASUS ep121 for my portable.
instead of having a desktop, laptop, and tablet. -
the m14x should be good for 10-12k in 3dmark06, while my old outdated C2D desktop will do 13-14k -

I've mentioned this before, and I'll bring it up again to see if anyone has any thoughts.
I truly want an m14x. At heart, I'm an oldschool AW fanboy. I've had at least 6 of their systems in my lifetime, dating way back to the late 90's. The thing that is keeping me from eBaying my Envy 14 immediately to make room for the m14x is the screen.
Do you guys have any idea how gorgeous the Radiance display is on this HP? It's unreal. Comparable (easily) to the RGB of the m17x R2. Screen matters more for me than it does for most, and I can't, for the life of me, understand why AW isn't offering better screens, at the very least the B+RG LED found on the late XPS 15. Something similar, at least.
Dell frequently uses these screens, but their latest lineup of AW laptops is completely lacking any better-than WLED screens and it's really annoying me. Hell, as a second laptop to my R3, I'm even considering a Dell Precision or HP Elitebook just for the RGB and Dreamcolor displays. It's actual the thing that made me sell my m11x R1. I loved that little fun box, but you know what? The screen was positively god-awful. Terrible contrast, laughable quality. I couldn't take it. I want to start a movement to get consumer laptop manufacturers to start incorporating truly upgraded displays as an option instead of just for business/professional systems. It bothers me that much.
Why do most laptop companies think their consumers don't want these amazing displays? I don't get it. It's an option that some will gladly pay for (just like how some will pay $600 for an overpriced and underperforming Samsung SSD, like myself, just for the convenience of having it built into the system). Even HP lost the Radiance display and there was a major backlash surrounding its absence. Okay, I get the manufacturer of that screen went out of business, but they couldn't contract someone else to make an equivalent panel?
It really makes no sense to me.
Give me an AW with an RGB or equivalent display, and I'll give AW a blank check to fill my order. No more shoddy WLEDs, pweeze. -

Think I would prefere a timeline-X 3830TG
-
give me a blank check, and I will put one into one for you -
Just purchased my M11x R3
.. they said about 1month delay on delivery.
-
will the screen on the m14x be same quality as the m11x? if so fck.. at least the res will be better >_> 900P -

The m14x is more likely to be GPU limited than the CPU limited... the SB mobile chips are beasts -

Lol at the fake 5 star review, given 5 days before release.

-
Anyone have a good reason to upgrade from 1.5 to 3gb of GPU ram? Seems like a bit of overkill doesn't it? -
Besides cpu wise it is a no-brainer, SB cpu crop circles around C2D.
Not to mention that it is a laptop, so lower TPD and temp..
Anyway feel free to keep your "outdated desktop"
-
Can we already start calling or talking to reps about ordering these? or only via online? I wanna get student discount and possibly any others
. Also now I gotta play the color game on which color to get
-
Thanks for the link;
My M14x would be all stock, except for the screen, the wifi card and a blutooth card. Which brings the price to $1344.99.
Very good price, a M15x with a i7 was way more expensive.
No mention of the battery life though, I'm worried. The "7" we got is about the weight..
Any thoughts how better can the 555M w/ 3GB of Vram is compared to the 1.5GB version? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
3GB of ram is going to be a complete waste. You may as well burn your money. -
SaosinEngaged Notebook Evangelist
I don't think there will be much, if any difference. Especially not to justify the $100 increase. I don't think the 555m is powerful enough to where you'll even need more than 1.5gb of VRAM, IMO I think it's just megapixel marketing.
