M11x w/i7 8GB RAM, 500GB and better audio, 1139 after codes.
) I need money! I'm ordering in a week or so. Perfection.

Anybody gonna opt for wirelessHD on the m14x? Is it worth it to get the $260 bundle offered on the US config site?
-
-
-
Nope. SB i7, 2GB 540M and 1333MHz RAM. I think this is priced actually fairly for an Alienware.
-
-
im not worried about my order getting screwed i got sent a quote by a rep and the hardware is completely different on the quote to the older model.

I know many people asked this before, but I couldn't find a clear answer... What is the difference between the 1.5, and 3.0 versions of the DDR3 555?...
-
-

That the 3GB version uses higher density memory chips that gives it even more useless ram than the 1.5GB version.

The new M11X and M14X needed MUCH stronger graphics to stay interesting.
-
Anybody had any luck finding the US M18x config page?
-
are you serious a "2.0GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M" in a 11" netbook is awesome... but i will agree about the m14x...
-

Hey guys,
Over the last couple of weeks I've read all 2200+ posts. I've been really impressed with the amount of technical knowledge present. Trouble is, I don't have any of that knowledge.I basically just think Alienware computers look cool, so I want to buy one for just regular usage. So, if I don't game, will any of the Alienware laptops do regular web surfing well (shopping, watching movies, etc.) or do I need a specific model/features? I like the M14x and my current laptop is a similar size XPS thats about 5 years old.
Thanks,
Phillip -
the m14x is built for gaming so yes, it will do everything else without a hitch.
-
very happy about the $50 screen upgrade on dell canada. finally they arent gouging us for the better screens. but $150 to go from 1.5gb 555m to the 3.0gb...are you kidding?

@ NOTDOS
you could use ANY... and i mean ANY computer on the market right now for web surfing... heck a custom built laptop costing $10,000 plus would surf the web like a rocket! but if you want to pay double the money you could on a regular computer from say best buy that costs $500-$600 for a good laptop, when i say double thats the minimum. i expect to pay close to $3000 for the m18x when it comes to market, if not more. so if you want to spend that for surfing the web, by all means go for it. its your money and i cant tell you what to do. but spending $2000+ on a laptop is just plain stupid for a laptop with some flashy lights, just to surf the web. my $450 asus in my sig surfs the web great with a 19" external monitor and still has some power to spare when using 2 chrome browsers with 9+ tabs in each on 4gb ram. gaming... MUCH different, i get 3fps in WOT (world of tanks on all low) and i get about 20 in TFC. if you plan on getting into gaming, then spending that is reasonable with a couple discounts ringing in at about $1700 with some haggling. if i had to recommend a laptop for you under $700 i would recommend the dell inspiron 17R. that would be more then enough and i just say 17" because it is much nicer to surf the web on then 14",or 15". again not saying you should buy that laptop because i said so... if you want to spend the money, go ahead. i agree they look darn cool with lights blaring! -

Love the fact the models are out in Oz now, hate how much of a rip off they are right now in comparison to all you overseas people *sigh* Guess it is haggling for us!

Aside from the screen, that's the other reason I'll be holding off a purchase.
I accept the 5650m in my Envy 14 because the laptop is sexy and slim. In a bulkier product like the m14x, I'd expect some serious firepower.
I don't really agree about the m11x. The 540m is plenty strong for, what's basically a netbook.
AW's competitive advantage has always been their case design and build quality. Quite honestly, since Dell bought them out they've never really been the "fastest" laptops around. No way. Sager/Clevo still reigns supreme. I mean you can buy a 15inch Sager with a 485m. It's ugly as sin, but it's still a 15 incher with the best GPU on the market.
If Sager can pull that off, AW can pull off a better GPU in the m14x, at least IMO. -
Wow, I'm sorry if anyone has brought this up already, but on the Aussie website it states that the M11xR3 can last up to 10 hours on battery!
That's a solid claim, I wonder whether real world usage could actually be similar to that? -
Where is the M18x??? There is a wide space on the Japanese website...I think it should be there...Gaman dekinai yo!
Now I am tempted by M11x and M14x...must resist...
By the way, the Sibeam wireless HD chip is still not proposed...they advertise on it but we still cannot purchaze, weird.
Did anyone in the world have this option now? -

If they deliver 11 hours in the M11x R3 that will be a game changer and make that crazy price seem reasonable....I know the $500 I paid for my R1 is about as much as I could stomache for about 6.5 hours battery life given that my work Asus U80Vt gets 12 hours battery consistently
-
But Digital Storm has GT 540M's in some of their 15 and 17 inch models. -
The M11x-R3 price is insane, especially when you tack on the faster GPU, intel wireless and bluetooth. Dell is out of their minds. Now I'm cringing at the thought of the M18x price. -

If $999 is the starting price, without some amazing battery life it is somewhat unattractive when the m14x is looming around $1199.
In my little perfect world, the m11x R3 would be $799 base price. The m14x would start at $999 with the 555m and have the option to upgrade to a 6870m. The m17x R3 is perfectly priced, IMO, as is the m18x. -
Tomorrow we will have m14x and m18x subforums, or not?????
-
No not until someone receives a system and posts pics+divx, until then it's speculation!(note to mods: I KID I KID!)

Don't get me wrong, I think the M11x R2 is stupid expensive right now, we will see what official M11x R3 prices are soon. I think a ceiling around $1000 with standard HDD and 4GB of ram would be a fair price for the R3 (higher is again stupid expensive and I do not pay Dell for SSDs....) but that is probably dreaming.....fortunately....I could not be happier with my R1
(although SC2 can kicks its butt in the big battles)

Here is my confirmation email:

Looking forward to ordering the M18 in the next few days, it will be my first AW system and a nice step-up from the G73. I should also thank you for converting me to AW btw, your posts on some of the Asus threads piqued my curiosity -

Is there any important difference between these 2 CPUS (m11x)???
Intel® Core™ i5 2537M 1.4GHz(2.3GHz w/Turbo Boost, 3MB Cache)
Intel® Core™ i7 2617M 1.5GHz(2.6GHz w/Turbo Boost, 4MB Cache)
I know that both are weak, but.... -
Which audio system should I get with my M14x?
Bose Companion 2 Series II Multimedia Speaker System
or
Logitech Z506 5.1 Stereo Speakers
The logitech looks fancier with the multiple speakers and a sub. Idk tho :/
