Calpella would be nice but only the Clarksfield Quadcores are rumored for Q3...the Duos aren't supposed to be out until Q1 2010 so the AW release would be a bit too early.

Maybe if there's not an actual notebook released for sale in June but otherwise it's going to be Monty.

He said Nehalem, not Calpella, and since the D900F exists, I wouldnt be surprised if Alienware took this chassis and rebranded it.

Calpella is the mobile platform for the Nehalem architecture...Clarksfied being the quadcores and Arrandale (32-nm Westmere) being the duos.

It's pretty safe to believe the rumors claiming that the new offering will be an exclusive refresh of the M17x but even if it weren't the D900F would be a poor choice for an AW gaming rig. The D900F is quickly losing it's status as a gaming rig by only packing a single mobile GTX280M.

I may be willing to sacrifice dual GPUs for a desktop I7 for a DTR Workstation but not for a DTR gaming machine.

Alienware throws around the terms "most powerful" or "all powerful" for their product launches like people on these boards use the term "speculation."

To this day the M17x still (falsely) advertises the X9000 as "The world's most powerful mobile processor!" under their CPU options.

Has anybody here actually traded in a fairly new AW laptop (m17 per se) and would like to share their first hand experience (are the trade funds reasonable; would it be the same thing as buying a new laptop?)

I'm really curious about AW's all powerful new laptop, and based on the actual product I'd be more than willing to trade my m17 for a fair deal.

Not even sure if they have that program anymore. When I looked at it before the ammount they paid for a used rig was extremely low. I mean really, really under valued. I think your best bet would be to sell it to someone, then use that money towards a new rig if that's your plan.

-'m hoping to have a "windfall" soon and perhaps it will include one of the new rigs. :D

Oh man... wow... you won't believe this...

I tried Dell as username... and AllPowerfullAlien, as password....

    And it didn't work.

he he... I have a 10 inch, a 17 inch, the only way I will even consider this monster is if it is bigger than a 17 inch. Unfortunately, it's pretty sure by now it's a 17in. Maybe more styles are on the way.

i don't think they'd all have personal login codes. i think it's more likely that there's a single global user/password combo.

on a side note, if you follow the second link posted, you see "area51" and "bigspaceship"... the first, according to AW terminology, implies an Intel-based system (not a real big surprise, but still), while the second either implies there are multiple sizes of notebooks coming, or that the soon-to-be-announced model is rather big. the first would mean AW's working on a whole family of notebooks, the second seems to indicated we'll either see a rebranded d900f or m980nu from Clevo.

EDIT: turns out "bigspaceship" is merely the webhost and/or designer ( http://www.bigspaceship.com/).

17" seems to be a good middle ground. Obviously the other sizes have their advantages.

M15x will get a refresh too. Maybe not right away but we all know it needs it not just for the tech but for the hinge problem as well.

When Dell releases an 18.4" it will be part of the Studio XPS line to compete against Acer, HP, Sony, and Toshiba machines. Single GPU (Mobility 4830 would be an awesome choice) and an RGB LED screen.

I wouldn't be surprised (or turned off) if these AW rigs did offer 16.9 screens though. A 15.6" and a 17.3" with options for either a 1600x900 and 1920x1080 resolutions would be the most likely.

To be honest, I doubt alienware would put anything interesting in there anyway.

AW sells their laptop in the main site, and that is definately not gone to change. That login imo is just another way to build hype; in which case, they deliberately set it up, and are expecting someone to break it. Afterall, If the content is so secret, and suppose to be kept quiet, they won't upload it until June.

Provided its a long PW, its enough to keep the site secure for 1x days?

One thing I love about new Alienware launches is that they are available to purchase from eBay about a month or so before their actual launch. :D

I bet you know the project name then. I do.

I know some people at Alienware, very closely.

Nearly all new and highly anticipated Alienware laptops appear on eBay before their official release. They are not official Alienware systems, all those are either just scammers or scalpers trying to make a quick buck, they usually offer to have it shipped before Alienware does.

Unfortunately, many people fall for it.

So you say that the assumptions that the majority of this forum have complied are incorrect. So are we totally off base with a m17x refresh? a single laptop. Or are we looking at a full scale new line of laptops/desktops. The conclusion here it is a m17x refresh/rendition. If not, how far are we off and what should we be expecting.
Or...are you just shooting down ideas to incite excitement even though its possible we are correct. Either way....sup
