Allan or Juan, I'm buying my laptop through AAFES but I'm unable to get the accidental warranty coverage through them. Would I be able to get a quote for just the accidental warranty through you guys?

FYI, I just got a "Mark, Upgrading your warranty is a smart move" thing in the mail today from my original M14xr1 order. So it appears you have some time after getting the unit to add those services. And when I called in about the dent in the Soft Touch finish they were pushing extended warranty and software warranty.

Well, that pretty much seals the deal on my future computer purchases. I was hoping that SOMEBODY from Dell would give me a reason to continue doing business with them, but it seems the bottom line is just far more important that customer satisfaction.

I know people in these forums herald Dell for its amazing customer service and products, but once again I was on the receiving end of abysmal outsourced customer service after having called 2x today trying to negotiate an order for the m17x.

For the record, Sager's NP9170 is almost $400 cheaper for slightly improved hardware/specs (2GB RAM higher and upgraded thermal paste in the Sager). I

I agree it is quite unfortunate that they are accepting no more quote requests. Hopefully Allan will be able to respond in the near future with an updated process for us to continue to get quotes. It makes absolutely no sense for them not to come back with an updated method of requesting quotes, and I cannot imagine that any company who is in the business of selling a product would cut out an unbelievably effective method of free advertising like this forum.

Every computer company around has this issue (spotty customer support). No need to hate on Dell when this is more of a global large business issue.

@Allen/Dellsupport--Sad to hear on the no taking request anymore. This is understandable thought. Cant even imagine what your email inbox looks like. Keep doing what you can.

I'm not "hating" on Dell, and my apologies if it sounds like that, I'm just frustrated with my previous experience with them. I was hoping to give owning a Dell another shot because of the stories I have read on here about people's great experiences with them.

Unfortunately for me it's a bit like a child getting sick after eating shrimp for the first time, even though it might not have been what caused the child to get sick, that child will probably refrain from ever eating any again.

agreed. No hate here, just disappointed I've lost a week in getting my new machine. But in a way it's given me more time to study my options. And not rush into it.

As for customer service, I've had decent experiences. They took back my m14xr1 at a full refund and we also had a workstation tower that was lost in shipping because the FedEx truck was stolen a couple weeks ago. Dell just delivered the replacement tower yesterday.

I totally agree with your comment about his inbox, and perhaps that is the only reason for a temporary shut down in requests. I know that Allan, from my interactions with him and what I have seen on the forum, is someone who appears to have a great deal of integrity and will follow through on what he says...just like Bill, for example.

So I'm hoping this is just due to being overwhelmed and their response time is not up to their desired standards, so instead of disappointing more people with longer waits for quotes, they are suspending them until they get caught up.

Of course, having worked for large corporations before, I am aware that other reasons could exist as well, such as a competing department not being happy about all the business his department is generating, or some such nonsense. Seems in business there are always politics going on behind the scenes.

I just hope that the decision makers at Dell see what a wonderful tool they have to endear themselves to the power user community here and become the undisputed leader in customer service by allowing Allan and his team to continue to do what they are doing to build an enormous amount of goodwill from us all.

I own a business and I can tell you, I'd kill (well, not really kill, but still...) to have an opportunity to have a presence on a forum to a captive audience like Dell has here for no more cost than the labor. Seriously...I'd sell at a nice discount and still come out way ahead due to that setup.

Anyway, I'm leaning toward it may be just because they are so backed up and want to provide a higher level of service. Guess time will tell.

I received a price quote via email by a sales rep from Dell but the price on the quote is not what was said on the phone. The sales rep assured me that when I call to finalize the deal the price would be of the discounted rate. Should I push to get a price quote with the discounted price before moving forward or is it safe to just go ahead and finalize it?

Also another reason why I would like to get the price quote is because I need to present it to my finance manager aka wife to get the final approval and I'm worried she'd have a heart attack seeing the price on this quote.

if you do 8gb ram and not SSD you can easily get under $2k. My machine will generate $10k an hour for my company, so it's really not expensive in those terms.

It's a shame this was shut down so quickly, but in my opinion is very characteristic of Dells service. I really wanted to give Alienware a try but I'm going to purchase a Sager instead, I enjoyed having quick responses to my questions and being able to speak with somebody who actually knows English.

Just got off with the sales rep and he said the quotes are auto generated and there's no way of showing the discounted price at this time but when I call to finalize the sale they will send me a final quote with the correct price. We'll see what happens.

BTW the discounted price is $1999.99 so technically not at $2k. haha

The Allan/Juan connection may be shut down, but I had success from calling in.

If you are on the fence about it, just call and tell them that price is a major factor in your purchasing decision and that you are considering some of their Clevo based competitors. It worked for me, and I'm awfully happy with my results, even if they aren't quite as good as some of the discounts others have secured in this thread.

When you are prepared to pay full retail, any savings you get back from haggling over the phone feels like free money.

I managed to get the worst end of the stick. I had an awesome quote from Allan and the moment the machine arrived, there was a dead pixel and the sub-woofer didn't work. Ring up dell and the tech told me that one dead pixel doesn't justify sending out a rep the sub-woofer will be repaired but I am on my own regarding the dead pixel so I was like forget it, I will just return it. A few days later after I managed to get my money back from Dell, the quotes and deals ended. :(

I really regretted that I sent it back now, however it was either dealing with a dead pixel in the middle of the screen or a good discount on an awesome laptop.

I seriously considered that. I thought of getting the base HD and use it as the second hard drive after getting a SSD. But this is a company machine and this was considerable below the budget I was given. I estimated about another $200 savings if I did the ram and ssd myself. It will be nice to just pull it out the box and let it rip knowing everything is configured correctly (or at least I hope so)

I love working on computers and the Alienware laptops seem incredibly tweaker friendly.

I'm really glad I found this forum, it's been extremely helpful.

I feel your pain, I got a 27" monitor with a dead pixel once and that is when I discovered how crappy the warranties are with this. I would send my AW back too, if there is a dead pixel (ordered with dell). Check out HIDevolution, they have a dead pixel warranty that is worthwhile.

Oh, in that case I'd probably have done the same.

I had a M14X R2 quoted from Allen, and now with $200 dollar coupon, getting the same spec configured on dell.ca with coupon is only $50 dollars more expensive compared to Allen's quote.
I was hoping that Allen can pull the price out with Coupon, but then he put a stop on all quotes. :(

It would be interesting to see the numbers of people who will be buying systems from other companies due to this halt in online quotes.

I totally agree. This is very disappointing. I'm totally sure that all of this is beyond Allan's control, though. He is such a helpful and nice guy that I do not think for one minute that he would do this of his own accord.

Hopefully Dell is monitoring this thread and sees what a bad move it would be to shut down his team on the forum.

Agreed I blame no one they did what they could. I went from wanting to give Dell a sum of money to looking at other companies (Lenovo, Desktop rig, Sony, Sager).

It's obvious that the mark-up on the ram, hard drive, etc is %100+, so you'd think there was some wiggle room in there. But they are in the business of making money and it's simple suppy/demand economics. But I bet anyone that calls in could get $100 discount min.

Did anyone notice the day before the quotes were terminated that two other dell reps posted on here offereing discounts? But then they disappeared? Hmm, what as that about?

    eats7 - I bet that's a single use coupon.

Nice, so Canada can get the single 256gb SSD like the UK, but not the US? Then they tease you with the WirelessHD with only a "None" option.
