Hey I just got my hand on my brand new M17X R4 that I bought from Allan but when i verified what's inside, I realise that it was sandy bridge install inside it instead of Ivy bridge. Can someone from Dell explain to me why ? Cause Allan told me it was going to be Ivy and I tried to E-mail him with no responds.

It seems to be hit and miss with the IB and the SB I get mine on Monday so I really hope it has the IB, I ordered mine through Allan on April 30th as well and I am from Canada.

 

That's wierd thu, cause Bill@dell said it was impossible to put Sandy bridge into a M17X R4... Seems they just achived the impossible

 

I recall reading about this "Dell giveaway" regards to upgrading to Ivy for those who ordered pre-release....two articles below state that Dell will upgrade the orders that HAVENT yet shipped to IvyBridge....it doesnt say what they will do for those systems that have already shipped.

Maybe those who are getting SB when they thought they would automatically get Ivy are being stung in this "trap" of maybe your system had already shipped.

Note the date on those articles as if your rig shows a shipping date prior to the announcement made by Dell's John Blain, you might just be getting the short end of a very long stick...

I hope that isnt the case.....

 

Mine shipped May 9th so it should come with the IB as the article is dated May 6th.

 

Yeah, according to John Blain's announcement on 30th April, anyones rig that hadnt already shipped would be upgraded to Ivy for free....I guess anyone's order that had shipped before this date might be in for a bit of a lottery....

 

It sure looks like that, I wonder if they will honor it if the system is shipped with SB or I am sure alot of systems will be returned.

 

Anyone's guess ..... I hope they do but I imagine there has to be a cut-off point for before/after the announcement. TBH, I am not even sure wether Dell were holding all orders back anyway as I saw lots of people complaining about EDD's - I know Bill knew of this but due to Ivy NDA, he couldnt say much....

Let's just hope that they put right whatever "goes wrong" for those that DO fall foul of this possible "hitch"....

I got my m14xr2 with a sata II drive, the samsung 810! I paid £360 extra for this ssd and get sata II...
I spoke to support today, it took a while for the guy to understand my problem even after showing him my configuration and running hd tune while we screen shared, he will talk with the head technician on monday and see if i can get the sata III drive i ordered

Hi Rawbomb. Unless you get incredibly lucky, you're not going to get a quote from Allan at the moment. If you look back in the thread he announced there would be no more quotes effective immediately. Guess you can always call in and try to get a deal that way. I may have to play that game myself soon.

The are also offering me the 5% gift card and another $300 off the laptop so 3150.00 total with free 2nd day shipping.

Should I bother with the 4yr advanced warrantee or get 2-3yrs instead? I figure I would be keeping this laptop for 3-4yrs. Even after its outdated I would be getting an updated system.

 

What was the original cost before any discounts?

I ended giving Dell 1 more shot at selling me a laptop but in the end they were only willing to take off about ~$75-100 on a $2,600 configuration, that combined with the frustrating foreign service drove me to purchase a Sager with nearly identical performance for about 1/2 that price.

In the end I feel satisfied with the purchase, but I really had wanted to try an Alienware (who doesn't?). Hopefully Dell realizes that their poor outsourced service is driving once loyal customers to other brands and decides to do something about.

 

I was set for m14x r2 as well, but i might just go for the sager 6110 now!

Is that 5% more off that price of $3150.98?

In any case, there have been many, many posts on this forum of 20-25% off a system. Personally, I won't buy one until I reach that level of savings...and for what it's worth, I did have a quote at one time in that ballpark but decided to wait until the new GPUs came out (glad I did!) and so that offer expired.

I think 20%+ is achievable for sure...but ultimately if you are happy with your purchase that is all that matters.

 

Apparently some people can get that through non-AAFES EPPs alone, but good luck figuring out how to work it.

Anybody having issues with their discount crediting after receiving their systems? Been a week and I'm still waiting.

I didn't order (yet) but I was told that was the way it would work. Actually I was told the price I'd be charged was higher than the price on the website , then they'd credit back "x" amount to arrive at the final price.

 

Hey Allan I was wondering how much of a discount you can get on the m14x. I might pull the trigger on this HP instead.

 

Yeah mine took a long time to process, over a week, but it finally did come.

I had to pay more than the amount on the website ( just barely ) then got a substantial credit back. Also, credit back was higher then expected because taxes were also returned on the credit, which was substantial. (ended up being another $25 back)

I ended up emailing Allan because I hadn't got the credit yet, but while waiting to hear back I checked my orders page on dell and I had an order number for my credit back. Cleared my credit card about 2-3 days later.

I had a small surgery last week so I was out a couple days. If I have not replied, I wasn't ignoring your.
