I wanted to post this here,

I actually posted it in the wrong forum:

Is there any way to get this resolved? Do I need to cancel my order, or get the quote adjusted or anything? The nameplate is also incorrect...

All.. I'm reaching out to you in this Thread because I'm hoping you'll find a way to sway me to Alienware.

I'm a very long time DELL Customer with a . I purchase a new laptop every 1 1/2 years, it's time my last purchase and current notebook is a XPS 15 Core i7 (1st gen q740) Nvida gt435M. I tried running Battle Field 3 and it is a dog!!

I almost always wait for some major deal / price mistake to purchase a new dell, and I have been looking for several weeks.

I'm down to ASUS G75VW-rs72 or an alienware 17xr4 .

When I look at Alienware 17x r4 with a similar spec to ASUS G75VW-rs72

    ASUS G75VW-RS72 Laptop Intel Core I7-3610QM, 750GB, 17.3" - Black - Sam's Club

There is about a $600 difference on similar specs. According to THIS site review of the G75VW-RS72 is a pretty damm good machine at a great price.

In an attempt to get a better deal I chatted (web chat) to two dell reps (non-USA) and the best they would do is take off $50 and give me a Giftcard for 5% of the purchase.

Is there a better deal to be had on the Alienware, should I wait for last week of the 3rd Quarter for the special deals? Any advise? Any deals I'm not aware of, should I just give up on Alienware and get the ASUS?

    Thanks,

    Michael

Michael I am an Alienware usrer not a rep or anything from dell or Alienware and i'd suggest getting the Alienware. ASUS may make a similar spec'd computer but they are no way similar in support. If you end up having an issue you may really regret getting an Asus. The machines are fine but if something goes wrong you face an uphill battle. Alienware in my opinoon has the number one tech support out of all the retailers outthere. They back their product 100%. Besides that performance out of box on Alienware is quite high and we have more options which can be tweaked for better performance. I hope you get what you are looking for but consider everything a brand is before making your decision. Even though there may be a higher premium to get that Alienware... they hold their value better than ay other laptop and you can always upgrade some of the components later on.

I would recommend that you PM Rev (if you're in the US) or Rachid (I think he may be on vacation though) and they will hook you up with a sales rep that can actually do something for you. I first did an online chat with a rep for Dell Canada from India and it was laughable what he offered me. He said that the max he could do was $77 off if his manager approved it :p

Just wanted to let everyone know, the issue was sorted out, as it turns out, the sales rep actually had 2 year advanced, not 2 year standard, so my ~2% discount for MPP plus the additional $50 he told me about was already included.

Feel Much better, and I got a fair enough deal that I am happy with it.

Finally am going to own an Alienware!!

    Thanks for the reply.

I think you're correct. I really do want a Alienware because I do like the in-home service and I've been very lucky with Dell's Quality over the past 10 years.

I've just never paid full retail before on a laptop via dell. And I consider full retail to be (Retail List - best dell discount on web) = Standard Starting price with an expectation to get 12% to 25% off.

I'm going to Samsclub tonight to check out this ASUS laptop, unless I get a hold of an Alienware Rep who gives me a deal that lets me sleep at night. I dislike overpaying.

    Thanks Again.

PM me, I can get you a great rep here in the US who doesn't mess around. She will give you a good deal. Also on the Asus vs Alienware discussion, I owned a G50 a few years back and it performed GREAT. The problem was it didn't have the style, build quality or support. The keyboard on the Asus wouldn't register certain keys if you didn't press hard enough and the LCD was AWFUL. You do pay a little premium with Alienware but they hold their value pretty well and its worth it in the long run.

Thanks to Rev for putting me in touch with Adam, I am now a new owner of a (soon to be built) Alienware M17X R4.

    i7-3720QM
    16GB 1600MHz
    NVidia GeForce GTX 680M
    720GB 7200RPM + 32GB mSata Caching SSD
    Killer NIC (3x3 MIMO---AWESOME!)
    Blu-ray

Adam found the best possible deals and brought the price down to “affordable.” Since spec’ing the machine any lower wasn’t an option for me, he went as far as to hit up his manager a couple times so he could attach a few more deals to get it within my budget. Way to go ADAM!!!!

I didn't have to barter, folks. Adam volunteered any and all deals that were available so as to provide the best possible price. It was a pleasant experience.

I have to admit…if it wasn’t for this forum I may not have ever purchased my dream machine. I may have purchased from another vendor or still be looking (the latter being most likely).

This forum provided quick answers to my questions and helped me gain the confidence that I am getting a fantastic machine for a great price. I, too, shopped around for a long time and researched many other machines, but I found that the quality of the Alienware was hard to beat!

I was lucky one day while shopping around in Sam’s club for other workstations. They happened to have an Alienware M17X sitting on their shelf (typically an on-line purchase only). I have to admit, the other machines were not even comparable. It’s a sturdy machine that (with advanced cooling & other great features) can actually keep up with me!

    Thanks again, Rev & Adam!!!!

    Thanks!. PM'd

Okay I pulled the trigger. Except there was one small snag, they removed the $1849 config from the site and it went up to the $2044 (almost 200 bucks) with the same config.

My Rep was very helpful, we both noticed it and moved forward. At the end of the day it's the bottom price that matters.

    I ended up with the
    17x r4 i7-3610qm, 8gb, 1080p FHD, 750gb, dvd, killer wireless

Upgrade features from that $2,044 deal :
680 GTX (+350) and the 1 Year Advanced Warranty (+49).

    After discounts I was $2,094 + ($200 student GC + 5% GC).

Anyone know how the 5% GC works?

Thanks to everyone that PM'd me.

Id like to know how the 5% works too. It says you get it in 10-20 days via email so maybe its a gift card number? I cant even log into my advantage account because I have no idea what my "key" is. I checked my emails and everything...

Your "key" is your password. Why they didn't just say password is beyond me.

The 5% comes in the form of a promotional gift card that they will email to you around two or three weeks after purchase. If you also were offered a $200 GC for say, being a student, the GC is combined. So say the computer cost 2K, you would receive a $100 gift card ($300 if with a $200 GC promo).

5% GC is before tax, assuming you have any in your area, meaning if it's $2200 after tax, you still just get the 5% of the $2000 base price.

Just a heads up but there does seem to be a pattern of problems with the Corsair ram - not sure if its the R2 or what but quite a few problems: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/670047-problems-corsair-ram-2.html

Hey, I am new to NBR. I am really impressed with the official AW presence here.

Do these guys handle orders/shipments to Norway?

I have spent the last week trying to order a M17x R4 w/ 7970M, with a ram upgrade from a sales rep in Norway. Three days after the initial contact, I received a quote with a wrong configuration. Another 3 days have gone by and if I am lucky I will hear from him on monday.

I don't know if all reps need to go through a half-a-week long authorization process for every price quote, but the waiting gave me time to research more and I am now considering the GTX680. The prospect of having to wait another 3-4 days for another offer really puts me off.

Am I just being impatient? And do you handle norwegian customers?

Hey Rev...I sent you a PM asking for a quote if you could help me out! I have an order in production now that I need to cancel asap, but I don't want to do that until I have spoken with someone from AW that knows what they are talking about!! Please call me as soon as you can this morning...if possible! Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi, I called Dell Sales the other day for an M17 with the following specs:

    i7 3610
    Radeon 7970M
1080 resolution screen (not the 3d one)
    8GB 1600 RAM (upped from 6GB)
    500GB Hard Drive

The quote given by the sales rep over the phone was 1785 for the system with a 90 dollar gift card thrown in. I tried to see if financing would give me an additional up-front discount, he said it did, but it would not stack with the coupon he used. I believe he also threw in the military discount.

The other laptop I am looking at is the SAGER/Clevo 9170 with the exact same specs for around 1570. Both offer free shipping. Ignoring the 90 dollar gift card, I'm paying a 215 dollar premium for the same system. That money could go towards making the 9170 even better by adding an SSD or a processor/ram upgrade.

If you factor in the gift card, then it's only a 125 dollar gap. However, I don't really like considering gift cards into the price as it's basically money that can only be spent in one place, and can cost you more in the long run unless you find a combination of items that you were going to buy anyway that costs exactly the amount of the gift card.

The main reason I am considering of the M17 is that I read that the AMD Enduro feature has been disabled on it. A feature which has apparently been causing some 9170 owners headaches.

Basically, I'm wondering if I could have haggled out a better deal out of the guy or at least gotten a free carrying case, hardware upgrade, or peripheral, or something else. I'm still a few weeks out from purchase until I get back to the States, so I still have a good amount of time to think about it or see if the Enduro issues get resolved in the 9170.

As a final question, is there a major difference between the stock resolution on the M17 and the 1080 upgrade? The 9170 comes with a 1080 screen stock, but if it's not a significant difference, I can get rid of it and the M17 becomes only a tiny bit more expensive than the 9170.

Both are great machines but like you said, some Sager users are having issues since you cannot disable Enduro. Also you are going to pay a premium for the Alienware brand, and 100 extra bucks aint that bad. You also pay for the quality of the system, the soft rubberized case and the customer support which is some of the best in the industry (does Sager come to your house to fix your machine?). Ive heard mixed things about Sager customer service. So just consider all of these and then make up your mind :)

Hi, I need to be put into contact with a rep that will give me a fair deal.

    I want a m18x with dual 680m and a 2820qm 16gb of ram and a blu-ray drive. This setup is $3700. That's way over priced. I'm also in a 4-year college

PM is going to be the best way unfortunately because I will need to collect some info from you in order to put the quote together.

Haha, I had just cut my hair for the onset of summer when I went out to San Jose and took that picture. That's the Alienware Gamer pod designed by Alienware and Mclaren that I'm sitting in. The Mohawk is back however and ready to shoot some more videos this week.

You need to have full forum privileges to send and receive PM's....normally, once you have a few posts on the forum under your belt (5-10 maybe) you will be able to send and receive PM's. Then you can click on the name of the person you want to send to.

I caught that while looking through the general info stickies (as I should have done first).

Hopefully this is my fifth post and I can send a PM tomorrow. We'll see.

    Thanks!

Awesome, can't wait to hear from you.

I just got done running through all my morning PM's ( got an early start this morning, thunderstorms kept waking me up  ) Hit me up if there is anything I can do and I'll be checking back frequently for more of your quote requests.

    Thanks,
    Rev.

Sounds great. I'll PM you in a bit since I'm considering a m14x. It's either that or the MSI GE60.

Edit: Wrote that message expecting to send you the message right after, but still trying to find the "Send Message" button or something aha.

Hmm yeah, I would hope their support is good. In my opinion it's part of the cost too. But the GE60 and then there's also the Y580 I've been recommending people here. They give a lot more bang for the bucks in every spec. However, I haven't stopped deciding on an Alienware mainly because I that that maybe it's quality might be better, so it might last longer and that the r2 doesn't have the heating problems like the r1.
