Ideapad Y580-20993BU: 15.6" FHD LED Glare Wedge 1920x1080, 3rd generation Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor (2.30GHz 6MB), 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX660M 2GB, 1TB 5400RPM+32GB SSD, Blu-ray/DVD Combo
There's many things on the Lenovo that I can't match on the M14X, due to there being more room available in the 15.6" form factor. In those cases I selected the closest option available. The Lenovo retails for $1699 with $1549 for the web price, and the Alienware is $1854.99 (Canadian site).
Now, there's $100 off over $1400 on the Alienware, which makes it $1754.99, not much of a break. There is currently a Lenovo promo coupon which drops the Y580's price to $1099 Canadian (yes, that's right: there is a "$500" coupon (compared to retail) shown on the site, but there is a RFD coupon which is "$600" off), compared to the M14x's $1754.99. How can anyone justify that price jump to themselves, despite how much more awesome the M14x would look? The Lenovo wouldn't look too bad; it has a brushed-metal cover and palm rests.
Needless to say, this makes me pretty sad.Obviously some of the Ideapad's configuration is a waste, so if I drop down to the 1GB video configuration on the MX14 and get rid of the costly Blu-ray optical drive, I can get down to $1404.99 (with the $100 taken off). Without knowing how much that can be lowered, I fear it may still be too hard to justify.

@LongDono: I know what you mean xD It's kind of heartbreaking to give up such a good deal. For me, even with blu-ray and 1920x1080, the y580 is only 1029.00 USD. But...I still want to see how good of a deal I can get for an m14x. Still waiting for Rev's rep to hit me up. He was too busy today I think.
-
Yeah, I am hopeful that the guys can help us reach a price point that will make us want to pull the trigger and ultimately be happy with price/performance/pride of ownership with the M14x. Fingers crossed.
-
-
@Rev: I hope your guys can hit me up today. I was waiting for their phone-call yesterday but I think they didn't have time.
-
Thanks
Rachid

I've sent a PM to both Rachid and Rev (I can order to either a Canadian address or American address), hopefully (based on what you guys have said) they can help!

Can a rep give a starving art student a good deal on either of these bad boys? Origin has a killer bonus with a free 256 SSD, but I think Alienwares look so much better. -
Just got done combing through my morning PM's. Hit me up if you have any questions or need some help.
Rev.

hello
I am wondering if it's possible to order nvidia 680 as upgrade yet?
thanks -
I sent an email reply back to your rep, Shiham, thanking him for his assistance and explained the situation. Thanks to you both.
Now to play the agonizing waiting game... -
Hi REV,
I would like to buy a M18X(i7 3720,6G,500G), and now i want to make a selection between 7970CF and 680m SLI. Can you give me you email?
I heard that the cable of crossfire often got error than SLI, is it true? -
Will be sending a PM tomorrow since I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger (especially if the 5% promotion going on further narrows the 220 dollar gap between this and the SAGER 9170) but I had a couple of questions...
1. If I've already talked to a sales rep and got a quote on the phone but have no e-mail back from them with a quote, am I stuck with that price?
2. If a change in promotions occur since then, is the old price locked in? When I made the call, the promotion was a 100 dollar off coupon while this week it looks like it's 5% off for the system I had configured.
Price quoted to me was 1785 + 90 dollar gift card for the following:
i7 3610
8gb ram 1600
500gb hard drive
7970m video card
screen resolution upgrade to 1080 (the 150.00 one)
Is it likely I will be able to do better than this with the current promotion? Military discount was also applied. -
Also hope Rachid logs in soonit's been 3 long days
-
OK Rev, I sent you a PM. Hope to hear back soon
-
Please send me a PM with your service TAG or customer number and I will try to help with this.

Hi Rev, a PM from me too. Hoping to get something to fit my budget (and perform decently too
)
EDIT: Forgot to add in the PM that I'm a student. Is dell offering anything special for the "back-to-school" season? -
Rachid@Dell, I can't send any PM.. I don't know why
Could you send me a PM with your mail so I can send you my contact details? -

Rachid,
I just want to say thanks. As promised a rep. called me before my bed time, since I work nights and you wouldn't be in until later today.
All though she primarily services the french queue she was very patient and insured my order was exactly as I had requested (ie. she emailed me the specs before completing the order to insure no mistakes were made).
You even allowed for some savings, even on such a bare bones machine. I do appreciate that and can imagine that your margins are not too large when someone goes with mostly basics for the hardware.
Looking forward to playing on my new m14xr2
Thanks! -
Are you in today Rachid? Please let me know any info you have found out, my EDD is today but I'm not holding my breath.
-
Hi Rev, just sent you a pm about a m14x, forgot to mention I'm also a student.
-
I placed an order for an M18xR2 system with 680M SLI on June 23 (with the well-known erroneous 240W instead of 330W power supply issue). This order has been delayed twice with the latest EDD for tomorrow, July 24 while the status is still "In Production", so it's at immediate risk of being delayed again. I've seen other 680M systems ordered more than a week after mine already delivered to users on this forum.
My current rep (actually a third-level escalation supervisor) is still "hopeful" that it will be delivered and has been constantly "in touch" with the manufacturing team, yet can provide zero specifics on why I don't have my laptop and don't appear to be able to in the near future.
Rev - do you have anyone knowledgeable of these situations that can lend a hand? I'm already a month in the waiting room watching through the window at the other kids having fun without me.
EDIT: Unsurprisingly the 7/24 date has been pushed back to 7/31. What is going on with this order?! -
Rachid -
Hi Rachid
