i don't think it's important! HDMI is universal! and more professional than DVI: smaller, video+AUDIO! let's wait for mrwater. maybe he tried the solution I mentioned: HDMI-DVI aapter to DVI.

I will try soon with my notebook with an HDTV HDMI-HDMI male-male ;)

I think engadget had all those pics Rebelijah. I cant wait for a black version too!

Anyways, Do you guys know if Alienware has a student discount program? I found a little thing on their site about it, but no details. Anyone know what % off, if any? What about government workers?

Another question, is there any place I can go to actually see alienware products in person? I know i wont be able to see the m15x yet, but im not in the market to buy for another month or two, and I'd love to see the thing in person before i drop 3k online for it =P

Yeah, they do have a student discount program; from a few other threads here it is 5%, and it can be applied but I think you'll need to order by phone.

I found something: I did not try yet, but if you use an HDMI male-male

right click on volume control in the task bar-->open volume mixer-->click on device and choose realtek HDMI output.

mrwater, try if that way works ;)

    bsheehan,

Your thread title has been changed to reflect the topic better. The previous one makes no indication of what you're talking about, nor is it inviting.

Heh thanks Jeff. You may as well close this thread though. IMO its just another pointless thread about people complaining about a popular new laptop being delayed because they didn't buy it immidiatly.

Sorry guys, I don't mean to be mean, but we have had so many of these threads. Next someone will probably post about how alien ware sucks or something because they under produced, which imo was a smart move b/c they didn't know how many they would sell. This lets them produce more, and not have to worry about having extras laying around.

I'll merge the thread with the m15x general information thread since it will probably turn into an argument if I leave it alone, based on what I have seen anyway.

Yeh I agree, but well if Black ripley is going to look all plastic like in the pictures ive seen so far I could care less for it. I like the look of the gray one with the material not being all plastic like. Also man make sure u get student discount ><! cuz even though it was not offered on line if u phone it in u can get the 5%

Kaak, if you go to alienware.com and look to the right top corner there is a link that says "order status". As for your OS if you have already placed your order you would have to call them and speak to their horrible Customer Service to get it changed.

Ok all you owners out there.. still no benchmarks... no FPS on any games? I saw one 3dmark but it was not run at native res or at various res's for comparision. Anyone got any data on this yet? I started a thread for m15x benchmarks, but so far no posts there yet. I dont get mine until Friday so wont have anything to share until then.

I don't have anything scientific, but COD4 runs at around 30-70fps at max settings and res (1440x900). Crysis anywhere from 15fps to 40fps at High settings and native res (again, 1440x900), though see the "m15x Owner's Thread" for more information on Crysis.

Ok, I am looking at getting a 15.4" gaming laptop, and both the Sager NP2092 and the Alienware M15x have caught my attention.

I can upgrade the Sager to have better components than the Alienware except for the screen and the video card for much cheaper.

If I got the Alienware, could I upgrade components as they became outdated? Or would I have to buy a new computer.

The AW comes with 1 year warrantee in which time you can update your system through AW. If you increase the warrantee length, 2 or 3 years the replacement of parts carries on for that time.

You will have to pay for the upgraded parts, but AW is known as a good upgrade company. At least it is one thing they are known for.

This was all explained to me by a sales rep., so I hope the information is correct. If I am mistake, please correct me.

Huh???? That does not make a lot of sense. Alienware does have the 12 months "no interest" promotion if you qualify. But, even if you don't, presumably, if you could qualify for Alienware's credit program as you imply, you could get your own credit card as well with lower interest rates.

If you dont pay off the alinware system within the 12 months you have to Pay all of the intrest, which came out to a nice extra 2k. So, I think it made a lot of sense, about two thousand dollars worth. :D

If you couldn't watch movies on it they wouldn't advertise the blu ray drive.

    "Watch It In High-Def
The Area-51 m15x’s 15.4-inch LCD achieves Extreme High-Definition 1200p so you can view video and Blu-ray Discs® at the highest possible resolutions."

Just another rumor from people that forget to check with Alienware first.

I received an email from Alien:
"Unfortunately, the transaction with your credit card did not go through. I would suggest you to get in contact with your Bank or with our Customer Service Department at 0800-279-9751. We will gladly assist you.

Regarding your second inquiry, please note that if you want to change the Operating System, you will need to cancel the order and place a new one."

Does anyone know how to cancel the order? (My order status in phase1 so do i need to inform them that i want to cancel the order or just left it behind and order another one.)

Theorically you can upgrade your system later in future but by doing that you will face two dilemas: If you change the processor your warranty will get void, and unless you are good handling with laptops you will be able to open it and put the new processor in without any problem, therefore, there is some chance that you will broke or disturb your system. You can let someone to do that, but then you will have to trust that the referred guy will not still your 8800 gtx and replace it with 8600 gtm, lol.

The only thing easy to upgrade, based on what i've heard/read on this forum, its the RAM memory.

In addition, I speak with some sales rep and I'm pretty sure that if you want to upgrade your processor you will have to do a lot more things (like downlodaing a patch or something) to make you laptop compatible with the new processor.

I'd rather doubt your order is being held up due to obsession on side lighting, from what I gather you ordered a system very similar to what I had ordered back on Jan. 24th. I have been in Phase 4 since the day I ordered and payment cleared. From what I can gather from the postings here, and infer from the various changes that have occured on the ordering website, delay now is due to a couple of factors: some software / hardware issues (perhaps even your side lighting issue); low availability of the 8800GTX parts; and even even lower availability of the 1920x1200 screen. I have yet to see a post here or anywhere on the web from someone who has a 8800GTX, 1920x1200 screen. My gut tells me that we need to be patient, and expect at least 2-3 weeks before the flood gates open. This is the price one pays for being on the bleeding edge of laptop tech. If you need instant gratification, I sense you will be out of luck for finding another 15" notebook out there with the 8800 and the hi res screen.

    .. patience grasshopper....
