that's 2:50 while watching a movie, btw. So, if one is just surfing the net or typing, there should be a lot longer battery time.

damn, I ordered the smart bay drive now i will have like about 3 hrs prob when gaming lol, which is actually amazing, i can not even squeeze an hour and a half out of my laptop when net surfing haha.
Plust if you have damon tools or another similar program you can go ahead and run your game off of that (if it actually requires the disc) and BOOM! instant power, hahahahahaha. ha ha. ha........

Ok, so I'm gonna place my order tonight when I get off work (tired of playing the waiting game for the m17x). This is what I'm looking at getting:

    Display: 15.4" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD (720p) with Clearview Technology
System Lighting: Alienware® AlienFX® System Lighting - Blue
    Video/Graphics Card: 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800M GTX
    Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7800 2.6GHz (4MB Cache 800MHz FSB)
    Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 1024MB
Turbo Cache Memory: Intel® Turbo Memory (1GB) – Accelerate Data Transfer Speed
Operating System (Office software not included): Windows Vista® Ultimate
Notebook Tuners and Remotes: Without Media Center Remote Control or TV Tuner
    System Drive: 200GB 7200RPM (16MB Cache)
    Optical Drives : Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc Reader (BD-ROM, DVD±RW, CD-RW)
    Wireless: Internal Intel® Wireless 4965 a/b/g/Draft-N Mini-Card
Sound Card : External Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Card
    Keyboard Options: AlienFX® Illuminated Keyboard
Warranty: 3-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support w/ Onsite Service
AlienRespawn: AlienRespawn v2.0 Recovery DVD – Windows Vista® Edition
Power: Additional Battery – 6-cell Smart Bay Battery

Any thoughts? I was torn between getting the higher res screen with 2.8 proc but everyone says neither are worth it. I figured the 2.6 is a good compromise. One question though, I've only seen people get the one year warranty. Are you going to extend later? Is three year not worth it? Has anyone gotten the black Alienware briefcase (the metal one)?

Not sure if this was already noticed while the side lighting issue was at its height, but I noticed on the m15x configuration page that there no longer is a delay posted for the ordering of the Smart Bay hard drives or Smart Bay batteries. Adding the backlit keyboard still extends the estimated ship date from 2/22 to 2/28 but that 2/28 date has been firm all week so at least at this point its not moving backward. So it would appear the Smart Bay drives/batteries are no longer on backorder and the lighted keyboards may no longer be causing a delay in the next week or so.

Congrats! Good choice on the screen and processor even though I got the 2.4 to save a few bucks. I got a Swiss backpack from Amazon and it is really nice (well made) plus FREE shipping! You may want to consider them over the over priced Alienware cases... :D

Oh, as for the warranty I personally think that if anything is going to go wrong it will happen within the first year. If Alienware offered a Accidental warranty like Dell then that would be a different story. Save your money!

I got exactly the same thing as you but with the 1 year warranty and no BD-rom. I figured I will upgrade the warranty later on if I feel like is a must and also confirmed with the guys over the phone that there is no problem in extending your warranty. Hope you will enjoy it as much as I will ;).

I personally took the 3 years warranty since this is my first desktop replacement laptop and I wanted to be safe. Its weird to ear people say that when you pass 1 year with your computer its not going to have any problems after cause it does happen.. So in the end in the end I guess you have to ask yourself if 300$ is too much to protect a 3k-5k+ investment. I guess you can always extend it when its about to end but in my opinion unless you want to sell it after one year, 2-3 years aw warranty or 1 year and credit card +1 year warranty seems pretty useful.

Im just gonna go for the 1 year warranty. Because I figure that if something goes wrong I have the respawn cd. Plus i'll be able to fix alot of other stuff myself. If it's a hardware problem it should come up within the first year.

Hey guys I was just wondering whether alienware provides any Vista or driver DVDs along with the m15x so that I could do a reinstall if needed or do I need to get the alien respawn CD ?

Does alienware in the UK accept direct debit or paypal?

How much difference in speed will I see between the standard 200GB 7200 rpm drive and the 320 GB 5400 rpm hard drive? Even though there is a difference in the rpm, there shouldnt be too much of a difference in load times and such should there ?

How big a difference is there between the 2.2 Ghz C2D and the 2.4 C2D since alienware in the UK doesnt offer 2.4 and the 2.6 is £200 more and probably not worth it.

YES! I CALLED ALIENWARE SALES AND ASKED THEM ABOUT THE BLACK SKULLCAP FOR THE m15X. GUESS WHAT THE GUY SAID?

    "It's coming SOON."

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their headquarters has told them that it's coming soon but they don't have an exact date.

More importantly, I asked the guy if it could come before the end of February, and he said yes it very well could! (but no guarantees, of course)

    omg!!!! How exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know how serious that's supposed to be, but they've been saying soon since the end of January. End of February would be "late" by those original standards.

Man don't do that. Please spend the extra however much money to get the 3 year warranty. I know plenty of people here (and my friends) who wished they got the 3 year warranty because their motherboards died or other things that actually cost them more to replace than the warranty, and it cost them their time. Please get the 3yr. Here a list of warranty stuff that I've done.

Xbox 360: Got another after 1.8 years and got another warrenty.
Compaq Desktop: After 2.9 years I brought it in to bestbuy for some minor things. They ended up dropping it after awhile and could never fix it. Long story short I got a brand new one.
Alienware M5550: Never worked properly from day 1. After 14 months I got this laptop that's in my sig for free.
Digital Camera: The display wouldn't work anymore after 1.5 years and got a free one.

The list goes on. Just please get a warranty especially on something so hard to fix like a laptop.

WOW! I don't think I've ever had issues like that before outside the 1 year! I rarely have had issues withIN the 1 year. Do you do heavy duty work or what?

I'm glad your 3 year warranties have served you well though! wow

The thing I don't like about Alienware's 3 year warranty is that it doesn't cover ACCIDENTAL damage. If it did I'd add the warranty in a heartbeat.

In general, on most electronic items, I usually do not get the extended warranty, though I do usually end up getting at least 1 additional year by using my credit card so if you are using Visa/MC/AMEX/etc. might check with them to see what extended warranty benefits your card provides. With all of that said, I may give some extra thought to the extended warranty when the m17x comes out. It will be a new laptop without a history to know what its issues/problems might be. The same applies to the m15x.

Yeah I was gonna wait for the black one but I just couldn't wait so I went with the silver ;) The two-tone screen & chassis gets me a good balance of black and silver, and also keeps the details visible (e.g. the black speaker grills) though the black is probably better with the AlienFX if you want some nice vivid colours (though I like just all white light, which goes better with the silver)

I sat here waiting and waiting for black and skullcap like most folks are.

then, after serious internal reflection, or rather saying to myself "silver looks cool" repeatedly until i actually believed it, I too pulled the trigger on the silver m15x.

now i'm just beating myself up for paying alienware 300 bucks for 2gb more ram, when i could have bought 2 x 2gb of ram off newegg for 100 bucks. working on the proper mantra to get rid of that angst.

I've currently been looking for a nice gaming notebook and stubbled upon the aw m15x. I've never owned an aw computer so I'm a little hesitent of buying one. Honestly is it worth the money or is it all talk? Also if I decide to get one should I just wait for the m17x or is there really not that big of a difference?

I want something that is fast and can run all of the lastest games. So anyones comments will help.

Illusion17- Just remember, THIS IS A LAPTOP. It won't be as fast as a home PC that's fully loaded. As long as you remember that, this laptop looks to be pretty good as far as laptops go for gfx speed. :)
