2 years if you are a "full details" kinda gamer. If you can let it down a bit to medium an end of the line computer should last you for 3 years or 4 provided that it doesnt break down. I bought my computer almost 3 years ago (XPS gen 2) and he still plays most games on medium or medium-high.

I have (currently in use not retired)

Dell XPS gen 2 with a 2Ghz Intel and a 6800Ultra and some 2 Gb of memory

macbook 2Ghz Intel core 2 duo 2 gb of ram

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M dont remember the series but I think is a 1.8 Intel with ati 7600 graphics card, best laptop (for normal tasks) I ever saw.

Now waiting for the Alienware m15x but is mainly for my girlfriend since she's doomed on playing on the fujitsu and complains she cant see the nice graphics. I'll still be using my beautiful Dell for a year or so (I'm so used to that one I can't change really).

PS forgot to mention, I usually play online games Lotro, GuildWars, Lineage 2 and for the normal games strategy games, oblivion etc. Not a shooter fan! :D

Edit... again. the dell is a 17" 1900x1200 beautiful screen!

Okay, first if you guys don't know I will be buying an m15x within the month. I have read about 40 pages on this thread alone, googled for hours, but I just can't find good pics of the m15x black skullcap. I have found plain silver, skullcap silver, and plain black, but no good back shots of the skullcap black. If anyone has links to any good black skullcaps, Please post them

    thanks in advance

thanks reziel, where did you find that url?

shin! don't get hp, get alienware. You can easily upgrade anything in an alienware, plus they have the best parts to begin with. It should be available in less than a month :)

I actually googled for that one. The pic is somewhere here on NBR. Not sure if it was in the front page news story or in one of the threads in this forum.

The other problem with the hp is that it doesn't offer the 8800 (unless that's changed since the last time I looked). If I don't wait for the m17x I will either get the m1730 or the m15x.

it does offer the 8800GTS....thats why im considering it. 2.5ghz cpu, 8800GTS, 2gb ram, 500gb hard drive, 20.1in 1900x1200 res screen, built in tv tuner, good looks, insanely awesome screen....for under $3k. 8800GTS is equivalent of 8700mGT in SLi, and better in games with no/bad SLi support. thoughts anyone? i mean....imagine Oblivion on max resolution on that screen with max settings!!

looks like HP finally got into the whole gaming notebooks idea, since the 2600xt didn't cut it...but with offering the core2extreme, full 1080p screen, blu ray, 8800, good price...its pretty tempting.

I'm gonna be getting a m15x as soon as the black option is available in the UK but there is one question I haven't heard anyone ask yet, Can you actually turn off or disable the AlienFX System Lighting whenever you want? I love the AlienFX System Lighting & think its really cool but if I was using it all day long I would probably turn it off since it would be a bit distracting.

hey guys, i'm so happy i found this site with a lot of alienware users out there. didn't know there were LOADS.

    anyway, on to my question.

i just ordered my m15x 3 days ago and i got the confirmation email and everything already. BUT i got called by the branch in US, i assume, since the country code was (+1). the guy was asking for my email cause he couldn't send me an email asking for some info. i didn't answer, the message was on the machine. i called the branch in UK (where i am) and they said that to confirm the order, they needed my bank/credit card statement, my signature, name, address and the last 4 digit of my credit card (i don't get the bold parts cause isn't that already in the info i filled in to make my order?

is this normal? is there a certain thread with the order process?

    thanks in advance guys/gals!

Ok.. I have a quick question.... how exactly can you overlock the processor?.. I understant that you have to change the BIOS options but how can you do that?.... Ok, you enter to the BIOS menu by pressing F 1 or F2 while booting you CPU, right?, then what?... I have to enter anything else?

    thanks

This may or may not be a "competitor" of sorts to the m15x if other resellers begin making the same offering.

    http://www.mythlogiccorp.com/configure.php?id=18.

Looks like a 15.4" notebook with the 8600 GT GPU but desktop CPU's, including Quad Core. New company as far as I know. Only 4 reviews on Resellerratings.com but all positive. Their "SLI Gamer" notebook is the Clevo/Sager D901C/NP9262, which prior to seeing this was the only notebook I was aware of that had a desktop processor.

The 7900 can't be OD'ed. That is why everyone is excited aout the 9000. That and it will run cooler, and will provide better battery life.

Sucks for those who have already gotten their m15x with the old CPU's.

Hi, does anyone know the battery life of the 9-cell compared to the 6-cell battery? dimensions? How much battery can I expect from a 9-cell doing light browsing and maybe editing a few word documents?

thanks and I do apologize if this information has been covered, I am searching as I type.

    not for gaming ..

your GPU will far outdated before your CPU is even a 2.2 is fine beside a 8800m
