If you aren't sure about Blu-ray, you should actually wait. They just created smaller diodes for blu-ray which will be released in the coming months resulting in cheaper drives. Not to mention that fact that sales of blu-ray overall have sky-rocketed. The prices of the drives will fall, so unless you have a sizeable BD collection already or are very eager, I'd wait.

I have a few but not enough to warrant the purchase. I'd like to have a lightscribe drive anyway.

Yeah, i have a TON of blu ray movies. I always liked the format. So I just figured why the hell not. Plus I love to watch movies when I have to travel. And I am super picky about the whole HD thing. After getting HD cable and such, I find it hard to go back to standard definition, it almost hurts my eyes.

Yeah, I agree. Not to mention how crappy standard def looks on a high def screen :(

One of the pay days I'll just have to buy a ton of movies from Amazon to expand my collection (only have about 5 blu-ray movies right now).

one thing I would like to know, is if the arrival date on fed ex tracking is correct?
is it usually dead on or off by a day. Cuz it says it is coming today, it is 1:42 and I can only hope it comes. gahhhhhhhh!!!!!

From my experience, yes, you should definately get it today if that is what it says on the tracking info. Did you get a blu-ray drive too? If so, it would be cool to see one of the movies playing on the 1200p screen in your unboxing video.

Ok ok... let me get something straight.... first a dumb question, the Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc Reader it's a smart bay in fact, right?... If so, there would be easy to buy later in future a smart bay dual layer blu ray disc reader when it goes more cheaper and just plug it into the m15x, doesn it?

Lol... its seem that we are part of the few persons surviving on this "wating-for-the-black-case" journey..... Apparently a good (or one of the best choices) would be to get:

    - 15.4" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD (720p) with Clearview Technology (beacause you can always connect to a monitor with great and better res)
    - 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800M GTX
    - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9500 2.6GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB) (because there's no so much difference between the x9000 and T9500)
    - 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz
    - Windows Vista® Ultimate (because it actally have so mch better features than home premium version)
    - 200GB 7200RPM (beacasue the speed its actually an important thing)
    - 8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW) w/ LightScribe Technology (beacause you can get later in future a blu-ray disc reader and then you will have both, lightscribe and the beneffits of the blu-ray reader)
    - AlienFX® Illuminated Keyboard (just to fashion it a little bit lol)

    gogogogogogogogogogo with black cases!

LightScribe is slow and totally useless. Get a printer for 100$ ( i have Canon 4300 ) and print your DVDs with full color. I think its not worth to upgrade from T9300 to T9500, not much difference for the money.

I'm still here! Waiting for that black Skullcap case...ahh...and at this rate it really could end up being end of March before it's launched...oh well -____-

and the specs on my (future) laptop are exactly as you mentioned, except I do video editing and whatnot and will jump to the X9000 processor..

    it will be overclockable, right?

The X9000 is overclockable. Just not in the M15x atm. (BIOS, not overclockable - no luck with software OC'ing)

From what I've heard, Alienware doesn't seem in a rush to make it a feature in the M15x. No idea if overclocking will be made available in the M17x but due to its closest competition (M1730) having the ability to do so, who knows.

I also read somewhere in here that the X9000 will not be overlockable in the m15x.... I still don't know why beacuase the BIOS is something every cpu have... I mean you cand press F1 or delete or something when rebooting you system and you will be taken to the BIOS menu... so... I dont know what they mean when they said that the X9000 cant be overlocked on the m15x... will be great to look into that beacuse if, and only if, it can be overlocked then X9000 will be the better option.

    Im just into Gaming

Im also waiting for the Black colour
But is worth waiting for the m17x
will it be really more powerful(meaning worth getting than the m15x)

also tell me this, out of both these which will last me
longer, like at leaset 3 years so i wont need to upgrade
as things here change very fast

cos I will be spending almost $6000 on a Laptop
& hope for it to last at least 3 yrs

If you don't need portability (so much!) and want the best performance - wait for the M17x :), with matured drivers it will out perform the M15x by quite a bit.

And someone posted that it might come with 64-bit os support (rumor) so you'd be able to utilize all 4gbs of ram. The m17x will definitely be more powerful and will last much longer.

also 64 bit does not work with the alien lights
    DO NOT get 64 bits
you can download from microsoft if you want to
and I updated my sig - laptop with 4mb ram and 172mb hdd lol -y2k issues

Sup guys, I haven't been here in awhile. Anyone here has an m15x with 1920x1200 LCD screen? I was about to create new thread but I know, we hate to see like 100 threads made everyday just for one specific matter. So hopefully someone see this and replies coz I need to know some benchies on this type of resolution.

I shall give it a week, or I am going to create a thread for that one. TIA.

I'd like to know the same thing! unfortunately I asked to few people who get the 1080p screen, but they never answered :(
I'm waiting for the black ripley, and then I must decide! I'd rather the 1080p for my needings! unless it comes out that it is a crappy screen (while LG 720p screen seems to be good)

Earlier post concerning no plans by AW to allowing OC'ing in the m15x was in regards to the X7900. I don't think they've said anything about whether it may be possible to OC the X9000 somewhere down the road. It's true that BIOS is firmware code that's in every system, but it's up to AW if they want to enable your ability to OC through the BIOS (i.e. change the CPU multiplier). At least that's my understanding. If the temps get high enough to potentially damage components I'm sure they won't make OC'ing easy (not wanting a flood of systems back under warrenty). Hopefully the cooling system will be good enough to allow OC'ing the X9000 in the m15x or at least in the m17x.

Someones said that the 1200p was actually matte finish... and that the 720p was a glossy screen wich is better and that the clearview techonology is so great.

AW: No plans on adding a glossy type screen for the 1200p

to be honest, I prefer the matte screen! definitely more professional, even if it has less brilliant colours! what matters to me is that the 1080p (or1200p) doesn't have light leakage, and the colour is uniform, with good visual angles.. if anyone can tell me this, I ould appreciate that :)

IMO, after switching to matte for a while, I would prefer going back to glossy. The colors are too washed out for me with the matte.

In theory it should be safe to clock the 45nm X9000 by such an amount that it then equals the heat given off by the 65nm X7900 on standard clocks.

why the m15x dosent have e-sata on the m15x. I was cleaning my hard drive a 7200.11 500gb and moved 80gb to the external hard drive a 7200.10 320gb connected via e-sata in 23 minutes 60-70mb speed. In what time a usb 2.0 do that?

Besides the sager i think it has e-sata and the asus g1

I sure would like user opinions on the 1920x1200 screen as well. I do not care for glossy, so that is why I opted for the 1920x1200 screen, but there does not seem to be many people who got the screen based on the lack of comments about it.

for what I actually do, 1080p fits better. cad 3d, rendering, photo editing. 1080p better than 720p to me. obviously for common things, maybe 720p is better, but I prefer to have the best for what I need, and sacrifice the normal usage :)
